About Detroit Red Wings
10/4/12: Detroit Red Wings super star Pavel Datsyuk has signed with CSKA Moscow in the KHL while the NHL figures out the lock out. So far he has appeared in three games for Moscow and has chipped in with four assists. Fans who want to see Datsyuk play are in luck as the KHL has signed a deal with ESPN to broadcast games this year. The games will appear on ESPN 3 and give fans a chance to see their favorite players, despite the lockout. There are still rumors that center Henrik Zetterberg will sign with the Swedish team Lugano but nothing is official.
9/27/12: Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings returned to his native Russia this last week to play for CSKA Moskva of the KHL. He joins several NHL stars who have made the leap overseas to play hockey while the labor situation drags on. In his first game with the KHL club he scored a goal after the puck bounced off his helmet, the goal however was disallowed by the referees. Datsyuk is one of the bigger names to head over to the KHL, but he joins players like Washington?s Alex Ovechkin and Philadelphia?s Ilya Bryzgalov to play in Russia.
8/16/12: The Detroit Red Wings were tapped to host this season's NHL Winter Classic. The game is scheduled for New Year's Day at the University of Michigan's football stadium and Detroit was anticipating a huge, record crowd of over 100,000 fans. With the NHL looking at a potential lock out this year the league announced that there is a clause in the Winter Classic deal that allows them to wait until as late as January 1st to make a decision on whether to play the game or not. The Red Wings were scheduled to play the Toronto Maple Leafs in the game.
7/26/12: The Detroit Red Wings have been one of the model franchises in the NHL for the past two to three decades. They are facing some heat from their fans this off season however as they have failed to make any prominent moves to improve their team. They missed out on Zach Parise and Ryan Sutter and this week say Nashville retain Shea Weber whom Detroit was interested in. Detroit also lost the great Nik Lidstrom and finds their division improved and their roster somewhat depleted. Will they make a major trade before the season starts? It almost seems that they will have to if they wish to be a serious contender this year.
5/3/12: The Detroit Red Wings are still licking their wounds after being ousted from the Stanley Cup Playoffs and now face the challenge of re-tooling for next season. The big question amongst Red Wings fans is whether or not defenseman Nick Lidstrom will retire or not. Lidstrom is one of the best players of his generations and played in over 1500 games for Detroit and led them to multiple Stanley Cup victories. His loss would leave a huge void on a team that is starting to show its age. Lidstrom has informed the club that he will make a decision on next season before the June draft.
4/26/12: The Red Wings dropped their first round playoff series to the Nashville Predators this week and now will look to rebuild their strong franchise. They have a lot of older players and are waiting to hear whether or not Nik Lidstrom, one of the greatest defensemen ever to play, will retire. Lidstrom says that he will mull it over and make a decision before the NHL draft in June. It is hard to imagine the Red Wings without Lidstrom on their blue line and he will be impossible for Detroit to replace.
4/19/12: After splitting the first two games of their first round Stanley Cup playoff series with Nashville the Red Wings returned home to Detroit in a position to take control of the series. Unfortunately for them they dropped both games to the Predators and now find themselves on the brink of elimination down three games to one and returning to Nashville. The Red Wings have been in all the games but have not been able to solve Nashville goalie Pekke Rinne, who has been excellent and might even have stolen both games in Detroit as the Red Wings outshot the Predators both nights
