Great Barrington is the name of more than one place:
Massachusetts i/ˌmæsəˈtʃuːsᵻts/, officially the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, is a state in the New England region of the Northeastern United States. It is bordered by Rhode Island and Connecticut to the south, New York to the west, Vermont and New Hampshire to the north, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. Massachusetts is the 7th smallest state by land area, but the 15th most populous and the 3rd most densely populated of the 50 states. With an estimated 6.8 million residents in 2015, it is the most populous of the six New England states and has the nation's sixth highest GDP per capita. The capital of Massachusetts, as well as the state's largest city, is Boston. The state features four separate metropolitan statistical areas: the Boston-Cambridge-Quincy metropolitan area in the east, the Worcester metropolitan area in the center, the Springfield metropolitan area in the west, and the Barnstable metropolitan area in the southeast. Over 80% of Massachusetts' population currently lives in the Greater Boston Combined Statistical Area.
Great Barrington is a town in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, United States. It is part of the Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 7,104 at the 2010 census. Both a summer resort and home to Ski Butternut, Great Barrington includes the villages of Van Deusenville and Housatonic. It is the birthplace of W. E. B. Du Bois. In 2012, Smithsonian magazine ranked Great Barrington #1 in its list of "The 20 Best Small Towns in America".
Great Barrington today is a vibrant small town acting as the hub for "South County". The town and its surroundings support a year-round population as well as second homes. Great Barrington is home to over 55 restaurants catering to a wide spectrum. The recently renovated Mahaiwe Theater has become a center for year-round music and cultural events.
The Mahican Indians called the area Mahaiwe, meaning "the place downstream". It lay on the New England Path, which connected Fort Orange near Albany, New York, with Springfield and Massachusetts Bay.

Just driving on Main Street, Great Barrington, Mass on a fall day
Massachusetts has been so beautiful, and it feels great to be back in the mountains again. Had two of my best zeros of the entire trail on this section. Spending a day fishing at the pond and a day hanging out with my friends in an apartment made it feel like I never even hiked. I'm currently in Vermont where I am struggling with cell phone service and uploads.

When Sean Stanton started improving the pastures surrounding his small farm in Great Barrington, Mass., his efforts not only benefited the natural resources of this scenic southwest corner of Berkshire County, but also diners at an upscale eatery on the lower west side of Manhattan. That's because he supplies the Blue Hill Restaurant in Greenwich Village with pasture-raised beef, veal and pork, as well as eggs and farm-fresh tomatoes. Standing among his 20 head herd in a field skirted by the Appalachian Trail and the rolling Berkshire hills, Sean explains how his farm products found their way to the Big Apple. "I started farming because I wanted to know more about food, where it comes from, how it's produced," explains Sean. "I started on 10 acres that my parents own in Great Barrin...

William Edward Burghardt Du Bois was born on February 23, 1868, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, to Alfred and Mary Silvina (née Burghardt) Du Bois. Mary Silvina Burghardt's family was part of the very small free black population of Great Barrington, having long owned land in the state; she was descended from Dutch, African and English ancestors. William Du Bois's maternal great-grandfather was Tom Burghardt, a slave (born in West Africa around 1730) who was held by the Dutch colonist Conraed Burghardt. Tom briefly served in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, which may have been how he gained his freedom. Tom's son Jack Burghardt was the father of Othello Burghardt, who was the father of Mary Silvina Burghardt. William Du Bois's paternal great-grandfather was a...
Ida Bell Wells-Barnett (July 16, 1862 – March 25, 1931), more commonly known as Ida B. Wells, was an African-American journalist, newspaper editor, suffragist, sociologist, feminist, Georgist, and an early leader in the Civil Rights Movement. About the book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0375754458/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp;=1789&creative;=9325&creativeASIN;=0375754458&linkCode;=as2&tag;=tra0c7-20&linkId;=b79b456425b901a135007063644bd540 She was one of the founders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1909. Born into slavery in Mississippi, as an adult she documented lynching in the United States in the 1890s, showing that it was often used as a way to control or punish blacks who competed with whites, rather than being based on criminal acts by blac...
Michael performed at the Mahaiwe Theater in Great Barrington, Massachusetts on August 1st, 1987. The footage seems to be an amateur video taken single-camera from the front row. Since no "Michael Hedges live" video was ever commercially produced, bootlegs like these are all we have. I personally believe this to be one of the best performances Michael ever gave. YouTube member Type3secretion, whom I credit with introducing many people to the world of Michael Hedges (including myself), also uploaded this concert in segments awhile back but his source video was of lower quality. This video was sourced from a Silver Stallion DVD production bootleg and has been color-corrected. As a bonus, it contains the full version of "Ragamuffin" that Type3's source file did not (his had a section missing...

Robert Casadesus was born and died in Paris, and studied there at the Conservatoire with Louis Diémer, taking a Premier Prix (First Prize) in 1913 and the Prix Diémer in 1920. Robert then entered the class of Lucien Capet, who had exceptional influence. Capet had founded a famous quartet that bore his name (Capet Quartet) and in which two of Robert's uncles played: Henri and Marcel. The Quartet often rehearsed in the Casadesus home, and so it was that Robert was initiated into chamber music. The Beethoven Quartets held no secret for him—he knew them backwards and forwards without ever having played them. Beginning in 1922, Casadesus collaborated with the composer Maurice Ravel on a project to create piano rolls of a number of his works. Casadesus and Ravel also shared the concert platform...
