The Windy City from Calamity Jane (1953)
Calamity Jane (Doris Day) sings "The Windy City" to her comrades upon her return from Chicago, where she had gone to entice the actress Adelaide Adams to perform at the local theatre. It's a beautiful number that reveals both her pride for Deadwood City and its people, as well as how sheltered she has been in the comfort of her little town. Coming down from a realization of how her masculine behaviour is perceived by other people, and how other women act and behave in other places, she may also be trying make a defensive claim about who and what she is. Lyrics: I just blew in from the Windy City The Windy City is mighty purty But they ain't got what we got, no sirree They've got shacks up to seven stories Never see any Morning Glory's But a step from our doorway... We got 'em for free! They've got those minstrel shows, Purty ladies in the big chapeaux Private lawns, public parks... For the sake of civic virtue, They've got fountains there that squirt you! I just blew in from the Windy City The Windy City is mighty purty But they ain't got what we got I'm tellin' ya, boys... We got more life in Deadwood City Than in all of Illinois! On the street was a dancing fellar All dressed up in a suit of yellar And the dance that he did there Went something like this: [tap dances] You should-a seen me a-wind'er shoppin' A-wind'er shoppin' with eyes a-poppin' At the sights that you see there, yes sirree Press a bell and a moment later, Up you go in an elevator Just as fast as a ...

Black Hills of Dakota from Calamity Jane (1953)
The town heads out to the Ft. Scully Annual Ball, with Calamity Jane (Doris Day) and Wild Bill (Howard Keel) seated prominently in the head carriage and Lt. Danny Gilmartin (Philip Carey) and Katie (Allyn Ann McLerie) behind them. Wild Bill and Danny had previously drawn straws to see who would get to escort Katie; Wild Bill, as the loser, has now been forced to spend the evening with Calamity. Bitterly, in his typical cutting fashion, he critiques Calamity's attire (what he can see of it) and she puts him in his place with a slow explanation (like one would give to a child). Then, in a rare moment of agreement, they sing their pride and love for their homeland, accompanied by the rest of the cast. (An aside: When I watch this video, I always want to poke Danny in the eye and wipe that smug, arrogant smile off his face!) Lyrics: [Wild Bill:] Take me back to the black hills, The black hills of Dakota. To the beautiful Indian country that I love. [Calamity:] Lost my heart in the black hills, The black hills of Dakota, Where the pines are so high that they kiss the skies above. [Calamity, Wild Bill, Katie, and Danny:] And when I get that lonesome feeling, And I'm miles away from home, I hear the voice of the mystic mountains calling me back home. [Calamity and Wild Bill:] So take me back to the black hills, The black hills of Dakota. To the beautiful Indian country that I love. [Chorus:] Take me back to the black hills, the black hills of Dakota. To the beautiful Indian ...

Doris Day - You are so beautiful New Album 2011
**NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED** No copyright is intended of any music used in the videos. I do not own any of the music used, and remains the property of the labels, artists and respectful owners. My Heart is the 29th studio album by Doris Day, released on September 5, 2011. On September 11, 2011 the album entered the UK chart at number nine, making Doris Day the oldest artist to score a UK Top 10 with an album featuring new material. Eight of the songs are new releases, with three of them written by Day's son Terry Melcher, and Bruce Johnston. Many of the songs on this collection were recorded in the mid-eighties for her Doris Day's Best Friends television show. The songs were meant to be used as background music for segments featuring Doris and the animals. When the original recordings were recently retrieved, it seemed only right that her fans should hear these songs, newly remixed for superior sound quality.

Doris Day - Autumn Leaves - 1956
I came to know Doris Day and her music through my mother back in the 1950's. She loved Perry Como, Nat "King" Cole, and Doris Day. Her Columbia albums were often played in our home stereo in Cuba. Her clean, delicately textured, and melodic voice filled every room of our household. So it is with great nostalgia that I bring you this gem of a song- "Autumn Leaves". "Autumn Leaves" was originally a 1945 French song "Les Feuilles Mortes" (literally "Dead Leaves") with music by Joseph Kosma and lyrics by poet Jacques Prévert, English lyrics were written in 1947 by the American songwriter Johnny Mercer. With Mercer's exquisite lyrics the song became even more beautiful, it not only conveyed it's message of sadness and longing, but painted a story with the colors of Autumn. I thought it fitting to use pictures of Doris Day and Rock Hudson as the main protagonists, given their popularity as a Romantic Comedy acting team, and in honor and tribute to their lifelong friendship. This song is very dear to me and this is one of the most beautiful covers I've ever heard, and I've heard most of them... Taken from the album "Day by Day" released by Columbia Records on December 17, 1956; here you have Doris Day accompanied by Paul Weston's orchestra rendering an exquisite and beautiful version of "Autumn Leaves". Enjoy.

Doris Day Receives the Cecil B. Demil Award - Golden Globes 1989
Clint Eastwood presents the Cecil B. DeMille Award to Doris Day. Clint Eastwood describes her as a remarkable woman who puts her heart and soul in everything she does, whether it is singing, acting, or the incredible devotion she has for the well being of animals. She has always been the girl every man wanted to marry and the woman every girl wish she could be. Doris Day accepts the Cecil B. DeMille Award and explains how she doesn't do this anymore because she lives in the country, but needs to come to town more often. She thanks Clint Eastwood and says that she is in awe with all of the talent in the room. License Golden Globe Awards Clips Here: dickclarklicensing.com
