Pirates of the Caribbean is a dark ride at the Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Park (Paris) theme parks. This was the last attraction which Walt Disney himself participated in designing; it opened three months after his death. It is located within the New Orleans Square portion of Disneyland, its facade evoking antebellum New Orleans, topped by a 31-star United States flag (which would indicate the 1850s). An overhead sign at the boat dock names it for the famous pirate Jean Lafitte (although his name is misspelled Laffite), who fought alongside the U.S. Army at the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812. The second floor of the facade was originally designed to be a private Disney family apartment. Instead it later opened as an art-related retail/museum space called the Disney Gallery until late 2007 when it was replaced by the Disneyland Dream Suite. During the course of the indoor boat ride, guests float through an immersive, larger-than-life pirate adventure featuring gunshots, cannon blasts, burning buildings, and carousing and pillaging pirates, all accompanied by the rollicking theme song, "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)" written by George Bruns and Xavier Atencio.

Footage courtesy of: ABC Current Affairs Show '730', with thanks. Grandfather Tim Holmes and his wife save their five grandchildren by hiding beneath a boat jetty in the sea as a wildfire destroyed their home. A British grandfather saved his family by huddling under a jetty for three hours while their hometown in Tasmania was destroyed by wildfires. The island state has suffered the worst damage from a mass outbreak of wildfires across the country. As cooler weather helped thousands of fire fighters battle more than 130 wildfires, survivors have recounted enduring blazes in Tasmania which destroyed more than 100 properties. Bonnie Walker, a mother of five, whose parents were looking after her children, said that she was "bracing myself to lose my children and my parents," as she described her experience of being cut off from her children and parents in the town of Dunalley after they took shelter in the water beneath a wooden jetty. At 3.30pm last Saturday, Ms Walker, who was out of town to attend a funeral, received a message saying that her parents and children "were surrounded by fire". She was later shown a photo of her family under the local jetty. "It's still quite upsetting to see the image, it's all of my, our, five children underneath the jetty huddled up to neck deep sea water which is cold," she told ABC News. "So I knew that that would be a challenge, to keep three non-swimmers above water. And with only my mum and dad and our eldest daughter." Eventually, Ms ...

President al-Assad : Out of Womb of Pain, Hope Should Be Beget, form Bottom of Suffering Important Solutions Rise DAMASCUS, SANA_ President Bashar al-Assad said If pain is pervading like a dark cloud over the country, the emotional state only, with its sublimity, is not enough to compensate the loss of the loving ones or the restoration of security and peace to the country or providing bread, water, fuel and medicine nationwide. In his speech on the latest developments on Sunday, President al-Assad added that out of the womb of pain, hope should be beget and form the bottom of suffering the most important solutions rise, as the dark cloud in the sky conceals the sun light, but it also carries in its layers rain, purity and hope of welfare and offering. President al-Assad said "These feelings of agony, sadness, challenge and intention are huge energy that will not get Syria out of its crisis unless it turns this energy into a comprehensive national move that saves the homeland from the unprecedented campaign hatched against it," The President added " This national move is the only balm to the deep wounds which affected our society and were about to divide it as it is the only way that is able to keep Syria geographically and making it politically stronger. sana-syria.com

A French man taken hostage by Islamist rebels last week in southwest Mali says, in a video filmed by his captors, that he blames France's foreign policy for his abduction and urged Paris to respond to his abductors demands. It is not clear what the militants demands were, but Islamist groups in the Sahara have routinely demanded ransoms of millions of dollars to release hostages. The news comes as dozens of Algerian jihadists were reported to have arrived in the northern capital of Timbuktu to support al-Qaeda linked groups who are imposing an increasingly brutal version of Sharia law in the vast northern areas under their control. European leaders are growing increasingly anxious that Mali could turn into a safe-haven for Islamic extremists and a platform for militant attacks, including in Europe. Almost two-thirds of the country fell into Islamist hands after a coup toppled the government earlier this year.
