Dune (1984) - Gom Jabbar
The Gom Jabbar scene from David Lynch's 1984 "Dune". While the rest of the movie was arguably of... er, dubious quality (some love it, so loathe it) this scene is one of the best and most subtle and, perhaps, realistic in terms of acting. It's certainly one of my favourite scenes, and I absolutely loved this portrayal of the Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother - one of the best things about the Lynch rendition of 'Dune' were the costumes and sets. Dune (1984) The Alternative Edition Redux TRAILER
Dune (1984) The Alternative Edition Redux - A fanedit by Spicediver. Released July 2012. A film that's been admired, hated and puzzled-over in fairly equal amounts, writer/director David Lynch's ambitious 1984 adaptation of Frank Herbert's science fiction novel DUNE gets an extensive reworking in Dune The Alternative Edition Redux. This is the third and final cut of my "Alternative Edition" fanedit. It was first released in 2008 and again in 2009. As previously, this 2012 Redux version draws on the heavily cut Theatrical Version, the controversial Extended "TV" Version and a selection of Deleted Scenes and soundtrack cues. Plus some creations and material of my own. PM me with any questions. Find the complete changelist on the project pages at: fanedit.org digital-fanedits.com Note: Fanedits are not for sale and provided under fair-use provisions for the sole purpose of discussion, exposition and education. Please support the artists and buy the original DVDs.

Dune Prologue (Extended Edition)
This is the Prologue for the extended version of Dune (1984). The original from 1984 was directed by David Lynch. This extended version was credited to a certain Allan Smithee, which is a name given to films, if the director doesent want to have anything to do with the film no more. The Extended version of Dune did have certain cool elements, like this prologue. But many places in the film it was certain that they just reused material from a totally different place in the film as filler. As when the leader of the Bene gesserit visits Caladan, you see footage from Paul and Jessicas capture on Dune. Very poorly made. And also when the guild visits the Emperor on his home planet you see footage from ships on Dune. Very poorly made, but most of the rest of the movie is fine.

David Lynch's "Dune" (1984) stillsuit creation
Bob Ringwood, the film's costume designer, talks about giving the Stillsuits a distinctively organic look. But this also created the problem of manufacturing the tightly quilted and intricately tubed suits. Mark Siegel and crew from "Don Post, Inc." helped solve this problem and provided intricately hand constructed Stillsuit costumes for the production. www.imdb.com

In condensing Herbert's rambling and complex book by eliminating characters and compacting events, Lynch succeeds in rendering the story incomprehensible to those unfamiliar with the novel and making the film look like a sketchy greatest hits collection of the book for Herbert fans. The story takes place in the year 10191. The universe is governed through a system of feudal rule, presided over by Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV (José Ferrer), who appears to take his marching orders from something that resembles a talking vagina. In the kingdom are two rival houses -- the House of Atreides and the House of Harkonnen. Each house is trying to gain dominion over the universe, but that dominion can only be gained by the house that controls the Spice, a special substance that permits the folding of time. The Spice is only available on the desert ...

Princess Irulan Introduction - Dune (1984)
A beginning is a very delicate time. Know then that it is the year ten thousand and one, ninety one. The known universe is ruled by the Padishah Emperor, Shaddam the fourth, my father. In this time the most precious substance in the universe is the Spice Melange. The Spice extends life, the Spice expands consciousness, the Spice is vital to space travel. The Spacing Guild and its Navigators who the Spice has mutated over four thousand years use the orange Spice gas, which gives them the ability to fold space, that is travel to any part of the universe without moving. Oh yes, I forgot to tell you, the Spice exists on only one planet in the entire universe, a desolate, dry planet, with vast deserts. Hidden away within the rocks of these deserts are a people known as the Fremen, who have long held a prophecy that a man would come, a messiah, who would lead them to true freedom. The planet is Arrakis, also known as Dune.
