Nikki Sudden (19 July 1956 – 26 March 2006), born Adrian Nicholas Godfrey, was a prolific English singer-songwriter and guitarist. He co-founded the post-punk band Swell Maps with his brother Epic Soundtracks while attending Solihull School in Solihull.
Nikki Sudden was born Adrian Nicholas Godfrey in London, England. The main influences on Sudden's music were artists such as T. Rex, the Rolling Stones, the Faces, Bob Dylan and Johnny Thunders. Following the break-up of Swell Maps in 1980, he started a solo career and also released records with Dave Kusworth as the Jacobites.
Sudden collaborated with, among others, Mike Scott and Anthony Thistlethwaite of the Waterboys, Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, The Golden Horde as 'The Last Bandits', Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones, Rowland S. Howard, Jeremy Gluck of the Barracudas, Ian McLagan of Small Faces and the Faces, Phil Shoenfelt, Al DeLoner of Midnight Choir, Tom Ashton of the March Violets, members of R.E.M. and Sonic Youth. The Jacobites' tune "Pin Your Heart" was covered on the Lemonheads' 1997 single "The Outdoor Type".

James Green aka Sudden is a fictional character created by an English author Oliver Strange in the early 1930s as the hero of a series, originally published by George Newnes Books Ltd, set in the American Wild West era. Oliver Strange died in 1952, and the series was revived by Frederick H. Christian in the 1960s. Christian classified the books as "Piccadilly westerns", that is books written by English authors, simply drawing on the conventions the genre, with no first hand experience of America. The Sudden books are among the earliest and best-loved of the type. Sudden is portrayed as an intrepid and accurate gunfighter in search of two men who cheated his foster father. James Green earns the nickname "Sudden" because of his lightning speed with a gun. Sudden is portrayed as a stereotypical gunfighter: an intelligent and resourceful drifting cowboy who is respectful of the law, unwilling to use a gun unless absolutely necessary, humanitarian, brave, strong, and fair. The first book was published in 1930 and was followed by 10 more until the 1940s and featured vivid descriptions of the western American landscape, rare in an author at that time. The series became popular for its exciting narrations combining elements of mystery, suspense, and action, with engaging characters, in a Wild West setting of dusty towns, ranches, and saloons.
Coming Home is the fifth studio album by American rock band New Found Glory. It was produced by the band along with Thom Panunzio and released on September 19, 2006 through Geffen Records. Written and demoed at the Morning View Mansion in Malibu, California during 2005, Coming Home is a concept album unified by a lyrical theme of being away from home and loved ones. The album marks a departure from the band's earlier work, implementing a more layered and mid-tempo sound that features various piano, keyboard, and string instrumentation more comparable to classic rock than their usual pop punk style.
Coming Home was a critical success for the band, and is widely regarded as one of their best records. The album was particularly noted for its matured style, while the songs were considered the most "mellow" of the band's career. Despite the release of only one single, "It's Not Your Fault", the album was still a relative commercial success, debuting at number eight on the Billboard Rock Albums chart and number nineteen on the Billboard 200.

from the album "Texas" Lyrics: Death is hanging over me Though this room is seldom cold Rosewood candles light the way Along this tarnished road. Death is hanging over me In it's empty covered shroud Death is hanging over me And it could never seem too loud. It's waiting in my arms Like a perfect glimpse of white A thousand islands twist and fall In the morning light. Death is hanging over me It merely twists and falls Death is hanging over me But I can't hear it at all. My death waits there

The songs: “Looking for a Friend“ (Sudden): is a crackin' Rock “n” Roll tune from the Treasure Island album. Darrell Bath gives another master class in R&R; guitar playing in this live footage. “Midgit Submarines“ was the only Swell Maps song that featured in Nikki & The Last Bandits sets. “Fortune and Fame“ (Sudden) was a permanent member of the set list. A studio version featured on Nikki's posthumous album “Playing with Fire”. This particular clip starts out a bit out of focus but soon improves and is well worth watching, if only for Darrell Bath's never-a-note-out-of-place masterclass in guitar playing! The songs: “The Last Bandit“ (Sudden) was the title track to a Nikki complimation album of the same name and a regular song on the Last Bandit's set list. It also appears on the Live in Quasimodo album which is available from easyaction.co.uk “Wooden Floor“ (Sudden) was another number from the “Treasure Island” album and featured the wonderful Mick Taylor on guitar; as did the studio version of the next song in this particular clip: “Kitchen Blues”. What a rockin' number! Both songs feature Nikki playing his custom built 5-string guitar in an open tuning. Nikki's Last Bandits were usually only a drummer and ...
Though not always in focus and the sound far from perfect, it still gives a front-row-feeling of how Nikki and his wonderful band performed live. The songs: "Treasure Island“ (Sudden/Barry/Doucerain ) was the title track of Nikki's highly acclaimed album of the same name. This slightly botched version has Nikki and the band amusing themselves and chuckling at every single mistake. "Countess“ (Sudden) was an almost permanent fixture to Nikki's live sets. He was (perhaps surprisingly) enamoured of disco basslines, maybe due to his love of Rod Stewart and Nikki's final album “The Truth Doesn't Matter” starts with a disco-sounding song, complete with an octave disco bass part. Nikki's Last Bandits were usually only a drummer and a bass player though the rhythm section was often augmented f...

This amateur footage was taken in a Madrid club during the 2005 Spanish tour. Though not always in focus and the sound far from perfect, it still gives a front-row-feeling of how Nikki and his wonderful band performed live. The songs: “Stay Bruised“ (Sudden): this beautiful ballad is from the Treasure Island album and often featured on the Last Bandit's set list, even without a second guitar or keyboard to fill out the lush sound that's present on the original album recording. “Stay With Me“: this Faces classic was a song that was much loved by Nikki and bassist Barry alike though only really worked when Darrell Bath was present in the line-up. Nikki's “Last Bandits” were usually only a drummer (Stephane) and a bass player (John) though the rhythm section was often augmented for longer ...

"Looking For a Friend" May 2004 From the late Nikki Sudden's acoustic performance at Criminal Records in Atlanta, Georgia.
Filmed by Nik Coleman and Steve Gridley on 20th July 1991, in and around the Stoneythorpe Estate Cemetery, Bascote, the Burton Dassett Hills, Farnborough and lastly in the garden of his parents' (then) house in Harbury, all in Warwickshire, England. Previously unseen this is basically 25 minutes or so of Nikki singing, strumming and posing around, as was his wont, on a fine English summer's day. The first of several long and short unreleased video clips of Nikki (and the 1995 version of the Jacobites) we'll be posting over the next few months. Originally filmed on TDK 8mm video cassette and transferred to DVD, the quality diminishes just a little and picture and sound go a little out of sync - sorry.

Nikki Sudden - English Girls from "Bible Belt" album. Lyrics... Hanging round in French Town Hanging round in English Town Hanging round in any place Always gets to be a bore. Hanging round with foreign girls Watching out for another chance 'Cause hanging round in Crazy Town Always gets to be a bore. Drinking tea in the afternoon Playing games with a loaded dice I sometimes fall for that English rose But it always ends up the same. I've hung around with French girls I've even hung round with a Russian girl But hanging round with any girl Always ends up meaning more. When the trains have gone to sleep And the tracks are fading fast When I'm sleeping next to you That's when I know that it won't last. When the galleries are quiet When the girls start reading books When I just sit there...

Thought I would do a favor a post this album in its entirety. Great album, not the best of Rowland Howard in my opinion but still amazingly well produced. 0:00 - (I Know) A Girl Called Johnny 3:51 - Shut Me Down 8:11 - Life's What You Make It 14:54 - Pop Crimes 22:16 - Nothin' 26:05 - Wayward Man 29:50 - Ave' Maria 33:50 - The Golden Age Of Bloodshed

Nikki Sudden 2/28/2002 Philadelphia Pa at The Khyber A solo set. Some time into the set Nikki decided to unplug and give us the balance of the show sitting on the edge of the stage then hang around talking, drinking and smoking cigs with fans. I recorded this using a Sony mini-dv camcorder mounted on a tripod. The end of the tape has the Sony nightshot on because it was so dark. We managed to capture Nikki's ghost using this feature.
The Mad Scene 4/23/1998 Philadelphia Pa at Nick's with Nikki Sudden guest vocal on a song. This was recorded using a panasonic VHS-C camcorder mounted on a tripod as the video feed directly to a VHS Hi-Fi VCR. Although for whatever reasons there is no sound on the VHS tape. The audio from a cassette recording I made was brought in and painfully synced to the video. https://www.mergerecords.com/the-mad-scene

The Angels Are Calling
The angels are calling,
The angels are calling,
The angels are calling to me.
I know your name,
I've seen your face,
The angels are calling out to me.
And when it gets lonely
And I need a saviour,
That's when I'll call out to you.
The angels are falling,
My baby is calling,
The angels are calling out to me.
The angels keep calling
And my faith is growing,
The angels keep calling out my name.
And when the frost falls
And I need an answer,
That's when I'll call out to you.
The angels are falling,
My baby keeps calling.
The angels are falling,
My baby keeps calling.
The angels are falling,
My baby keeps calling.
The angels are falling,
My baby keeps calling
Out my name.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
