Salento Peninsula - Italy
Salento is the south-eastern extremity of the Apulia region of Italy. It is a sub-peninsula of the main Italian peninsula, sometimes described as the "heel" of the Italian "boot". It encompasses the entire administrative area of the province of Lecce, a large part of the administrative area of Brindisi and part of that of Taranto. The peninsula is also known as Terra d'Otranto, and in ancient times was called variously Messapia, Calabria, and Salentina. ( source Wikipedia )

italian folk music
Italian folk music has a deep and complex history. National unification came quite late to the Italian peninsula, so its many hundreds of separate cultures remained un-homogenized until quite recently compared to many other European countries. Moreover, Italian folk music reflects Italy's geographic position at the south of Europe and in the center of the Mediterranean Sea: Arabic, African, Celtic, Persian, Venetian, Roma, and Slavic influences are readily apparent in the musical styles of the Italian regions. Italy's rough geography and the historic dominance of small city states has allowed quite diverse musical styles to coexist in close proximity.

Italy - Rome - Travel - Jim Rogers World Adventure
Leading economic expert Jim Rogers traveled to 150 countries over 150000 miles in three years - follow his adventures here on FentonReport. In this video Jim and Paige visit Rome, Italy. Copyright Jim Rogers - provided as a special contribution to The Fenton Report. www.fentonreport.com Rome is the capital city of Italy and Lazio, and is Italy's largest and most populous city, with 2705317 residents, an urban area of 3457690 as well as a metropolitan area of about 4 million inhabitants spread over a 5352 km² area. It is located in the central-western portion of the Italian peninsula, on the Tiber river. Rome's history as a city spans over two and a half thousand years, as one of the founding cities of Western Civilisation. Even outside of the history of the Roman Empire, Rome has a significant place in the story of Christianity up to the present day as the home of the Roman Catholic Church. As one of the few major European cities that escaped World War II relatively unscathed, central Rome remains essentially Renaissance and Baroque in character. Rome is the third-most-visited tourist destination in the European Union, and its historic centre of Rome is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Sardinia
Recorded August 25, 2008. Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea (after Sicily). The area of Sardinia is 9301 square miles. The island is surrounded by the French island of Corsica, the Italian Peninsula, Tunisia and the Balearic Islands. Sardinia is a constitutional part of Italy, with a special statute of regional autonomy under the Italian Constitution. In this video first we traveled to the north side of the island where there were dramatic views of the Gulf of Porto Conte at Cape Caccia area. Next w visited Nuraghe di Palmavera. At the core of the site is the remains of a palace which is surrounded by a tight cluster of around fifty circular huts. The palace was founded around the fourteenth century BC which is during the Middle Copper Period and consists of a central tower with an additional elliptical bastion and second tower that were both added at a later date. The video concludes with a nice view of the cliffs along the coast as we sail away from the Italian island of Sardinia. From: timvp.com

Addio, mia bella Napoli... Torna a Surriento... Known for its rich history, art, culture, architecture, music, and gastronomy, Naples has played an important role in the Italian peninsula and beyond for much of its existence, which began more than 2800 years ago. Romeo Models "Lars Porsenna, Etruscan King of Clusium" in 54mm scale
The Etruscans are a quite unkown and mysterious people and the few things we know about them are fascinating. I think a figure of the Etruscan King Lars Porsenna is a good object to start my model building year 2013. The white metal kit from Romeo Models has some nice details and i enjoyed it a lot to paint the face and armour of the king. I used acrylic paints from Revell and Lifecolor to paint this miniature. For the bronze armour i used Revell enamel paints. Around the end of the VI Century BC the Tarquinians were expelled from Rome. The one named the Superb (VII and last king of Rome), in order to regain the throne, asked the help of the Etruscan Dodecapolis, which was a Confederation of twelfe towns of Etruria, the most important culture at that time on the Italian peninsula. Lars Porsenna, the King of Clusium, was nominated as the Commanding Officer of the army. Around the year 508 Porsenna leid siege to Rome and his name became legendary, along with the names of his famous Roman enemies Publius Horatius Coclite and Gaius Mucius Scaevola. It seems like Porsenna was able to capture Rome, but the reign of the Tarquinians was not re-erected. According to Roman historians the Romans had to send hostages to the Etruscans and archaeology prooves that the importance of Rome was reduced. This delayed the rise of Rome in the Italian peninsula. Porsenna was defeated in Ariccia by the Latin League in the year 505. The figurine is based on archaeological finds exhibited in the ...

Western Europe
For High Resolution version, visit our video page: eol.jsc.nasa.gov This video was taken by the crew of Expedition 29 on board the International Space Station. The sequence of shots was taken October 15, 2011 from 00:47:28 to 01:02:56 GMT, on a pass beginning over the North Atlantic Ocean, east of the Island of Newfoundland to the northern part of the Red Sea, over the Gulf of Suez and the Sinai Peninsula. At the beginning of the video, the Aurora Borealis can be seen in the far left along with clouds over the North Atlantic Ocean. Tracking southeast, the first view of lights is from the United Kingdom (Ireland, uptrack from the UK, is under cloud), with cities like Liverpool and London showing up nicely. Across the English Channel, the cities of Brussels and Rotterdam (left) and Paris (brightly-lit city west of Brussels) all stand out through a network of smaller cities in Western Europe. The pass continues over the snow-covered Alps and to the Italian Peninsula, where lightning storms cover the southern half of the peninsula. The ISS then tracks over the Mediterranean Sea, with Greece to the left of track, northern Africa right of track, and the island of Crete. Finally, the pass finishes near the Nile River Delta and the Red Sea.
