Bonnie Prince Charlie
Prince Charles Edward Stuart, "the Young Pretender", "Bonnie Prince Charlie" etc was the grandson of the deposed King James II. In 1745 he led the last major Jacobite uprising against the House of Hanover. Landing in Scotland he rallied the highland clans and won several stunning victories. Against all odds he advanced almost to London but turned and retreated to Scotland. His army was wiped out at the battle of Culloden and the prince spent the rest of his life in sorrowful exile.

BONNIE PRINCE CHARLIE - THE YOUNG PRETENDER
Charles Edward Stuart was born in exile in 1720, and spent his early life at the Stuart court in Rome. The grandson of the deposed Stuart King James, he made a famous attempt to raise a rebellion among the clans of Scotland to march on London and re-establish his father as king. Initially Bonnie Prince Charlie, as he became known, was successful in his attempt and swiftly took control of Scotland, but the real prize of England was to elude him. Ultimately his rash spirit of adventure and questionable leadership would lead to bitter defeat at the hands of the Duke Of Cumberland and the death of many a Scot. After a series of hair-raising escapes, the young Prince made it safely back to France. To an extent the high-water mark of his life had been passed, and the bonnie Prince slowly declined into alcoholism and obscurity. Narrated by Graham McTavish Available to buy from: www.amazon.co.uk

The Fog - Walking with the Prince
Just another chapter of my lifelong fascination and attachment (as a biographer and as a fellow human being) to Prince Charles Edward Stuart... Thank you once more - I am deeply grateful and I trust I will be able to carry on with my promise as efficiently as I am determined to. "This is the true joy of life, the being used for a purpose recognised by yourself as a mighty one." (Annie S.Swan). Song is "The Fog" by the amazing Kate Bush from her album "The Sensual World".

Silly Wizard - "Wha'll be King but Cherlie?"
Charles Edward Stuart lived from 31 December 1720 to 31 January 1788. He is better remembered as "Bonnie Prince Charlie" or "The Young Pretender". In a life of 67 years he spent just 14 months in Scotland and England in the fruitless pursuit of his family's claim to the crowns of England, Scotland and Ireland. But during that brief visit he set in train a series of events that were to destroy the traditional Highland way of life forever. Soundtrack: "Wha'll be King but Cherlie?" - Silly Wizard ("A Glint of Silver"). Video excerpts: "Battlefield Britain" and "Culloden".

Charles Edward Stuart "Bonnie Prince Charlie" or the Young Pretender, was the last Stuart claimant to the British throne. He led the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745, which ended at the Battle of Culloden. After the battle legend has it he escaped with the help of Flora MacDonald. He wandered around Europe for a few years but was never able to further his cause. He died in France, having degenerated into a friendless drunkard.

Hielan' Laddie And The Battle of Prestonpans
Hielan' Laddie, also known as Highland Laddie, sung by Kenneth McKellar. The original song was written shortly after the Jacobite victory at the Battle of Prestonpans, in honour of Charles Edward Stuart, "Bonnie Prince Charlie" The tune became very popular after the conflict ended, and indeed, the tune became a required march for many of the Highland Regiments in the British Army. It is still the Quick March tune for the Scots Guards today. Sadly Charlie would fail to live up to the words of the tune, at Culloden he would end up fleeing from the field, leaving his loyal followers to fend for themselves.

Jacobite piper plays Lochaber No More
A clan cameron piper in full 17th century battle dress plays the ultimate Jacobite lament Lochaber No More, a haunting tune from the 17th century. This is the original melody, known to very few pipers but often played on harp and flute. Lochaber was the area where Charles Edward Stuart, better known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, landed and gathered the first clans to fight for his cause, thus starting the Jacobite Rebellion which culminated in defeat on Culloden Moor in 1746. The title says it all. These are the mournful words of the song: Farewell to Lochaber, farewell to my Jean, Where heartsome wi' thee.. I ha'e mony days been; For Lochaber no more, Lochaber no more, We'll may be return to Lochaber no more. These tears that I shed, they are a' for my dear, And no for the dangers attending on weir, Tho' borne on rough seas to a far distant shore, Maybe to return to Lochaber no more. Though hurricanes rise, though rise ev'ry wind, No tempest can equal the storm in my mind; Though loudest of thunders, on louder waves roar, There's naething like leavin' my love on the shore. To leave thee behind me, my heart is sair pain'd; But by ease that's inglorious no fame can be gain'd; And beauty and love's the reward of the brave; And I maun deserve it before I can crave. Then glory, my Jeanie, maun plead my excuse; Since honour commands me, how can I refuse? Without it, I ne'er can have merit for thee; And losing thy favour, I'd better not be. I gae then, my lass, to win honour and ...

The Skye Boat Song - Tin Whistle
The Skye Boat Song is a traditional song about the escape of Charlie Edward Stuart ("Bonnie Charlie") the last pretendent of throne of Scotland. Bonnie Charlie after the battle of Culloden (1746) escaped from Uist to the island of Skye on a small boat with the aid of Flora MacDonald that had him disguise from domestic to make easier him the escape. The battle of Culloden maked end to jacobitism and the Scotland did not try more the independence on the battlefield, but parliament.
