Pyrrho speaks of our perception of patterns in nature somehow building up to the "mental" things we call "ideas" (though they are ideas only in name, not in substance). But ideas are not mere summations or bundles (as Hume would say) of atomic sensory perceptions. Why Platonic Forms Exist: A Simple Proof from Godel's Theorem
The notion of Platonic forms often gets a bad rap these days, however without it no true knowledge would be possible. Godel's incompleteness theorem tells us that no logical system can be complete and consistent at the same time. To prove something we need premises which themselves are unproved from within that system. However this leads us to an infinite regress, wherein no knowledge is possible. Knowledge by definition is justified true belief and if we can't completely prove something then we can not completely justify it and therefore truly know it. Thus knowledge must be grounded on something innate at some level -ie. Platonic forms or the a priori category. It has been argued by positivists that only the a posteriori category is necessary. However this is self-refuting. A posteriori knowledge can not be justified without reference to a priori knowledge. As such denying a priori knowledge while accepting a posteriori knowledge commits the Stolen Concept Fallacy. It accepts a posteriori knowledge while rejecting the basis of that knowledge. On a side note; Platonism does not equal mysticism as is often erroneously suggested by some of its detractors. I discuss the seeming discrepancy between Mathematical Platonism and the claims of Quantum Physics. I attempt to defend Platonism against those who say that it is irrelevant to modern cosmology and physics. I also present a conjecture that is an amateur one on my part, but which attempts to do what Physicists do not like. I attempt to "invoke and infinity" right in the heart of Quantum Physics itself.
