F-16 Viper Cockpit Tour, Test Pilot, Edwards AFB
Test pilot Major Desmond Brophy (Canadian Air Force Exchange pilot) gives a tour of an F-16 Fighting Falcon (aka Viper) cockpit used for flight testing at Edwards Air Force Base. If you're wondering what test pilots are doing in a relatively senior and proven airframe, the answer lies in continuous improvement and the fact that the airframe itself is far from the only thing that changes the flight characteristics of a modern fighter. These aircraft are inherently unstable and, though they are flown by pilots, it's computers that keep them in the air. When changes are made to the hardware software or weapons systems that give these aircraft their edge, test pilots are sent up to evaluate the effects of those changes on the aircraft's performance, capability and controllability. But enough with the big picture -- click through for your guided tour of the front office. www.avweb.com for more aviation news or contact Glenn Pew via www.glennpew.com

F-16 Loss of Control, Test Pilot on Yaw Departure
www.avweb.com At Edwards Air Force Base, they still test F16 fighters, because each software upgrade and each new weapons package introduces new parameters. Experimental test pilots need to identify the aircraft's performance limits and they need to know how it will perform before their brothers and sisters in arms take upgraded Vipers into combat. This is one of those tests. Video by Glenn Pew for AVweb.com http

Donald Duck - Test Pilot Donald
1951. Please view in high quality. Probably the last classic Chip and Dale I upload to this channel. I might re-up a few episodes in better quality, like Chips Ahoy or All in a Nutshell; maybe another Real Voices clip. The only one remaining is The Lone Chipmunks, but I don't have it and don't plan on getting the DVD. So, enjoy. Dale stars this episode and owns Donald Duck big time. Chip is boring and maybe jealous.

National Test Pilot School 2006 part 1
The National Test Pilot School (NTPS) is a not-for-profit educational institute incorporated in the State of California, located at Mojave Air and Space Port in Kern County. Established in 1981 to meet the flight test training needs of the US domestic and foreign aerospace industries and governments, both military and civil certification agencies, NTPS is the only civilian school of the seven largest test pilot schools in the world. NTPS educates and trains test pilots and flight test engineers to be immediately capable upon graduation of participating in a military acceptance program, an aircraft development program within an aerospace company, or to complete a civil certification of a new or modified aircraft, either fixed-wing or rotary-wing. www.ntps.edu

First female test pilot - Hanna Reitsch 1
One of the best pilots ever, regardless the political regime she lived in. Hanna Reitsch, Nazi Germany's celebrated woman test pilot who had flown the VI rocket bomb in sub orbital flight in the early 1940's -- 20 years before the first American spaceman -- was actually history's first astronaut. Hanna started with gliders. Her passion for the air soon overtook her interest in medicine, and she left medical school to become a full-time glider pilot (Germany had been forbidden to build "war planes" after WWI, which meant that most of the planes constructed in Germany were built without engines). She went on to become an instructor in gliding at the Horngerb in Swabia and also worked as a stunt pilot in films, but she really distinguished herself in competition. She soon became Nazi Germany's ideal woman, young and vivacious, daring and highly publicized by the Nazi propaganda machine. If she hadn't been on the losing side and if she had been later willing to admit the horrors of the Nazi regime, Hanna Reitsch would be honoured in history books as the greatest woman pilot. At a time when women were expected to stay in the kitchen, she was one of the world's top glider pilots. She held 40 world aviation records, was the first to cross the Alps in a glider, first to fly a helicopter and first to fly a jet plane. She was the first woman awarded the iron Cross and was the world's first woman test pilot. History records she flew into a burning Berlin at night in the last days of ...

Empire Test Pilots' School Flight Simulator
A demonstration of the Empire Test Pilot School's motion simulator at QinetiQ Boscombe Down. This video shows the fixed wing, fast jet capability of our simulator flying over the Cranfield terrain database. The CueSim built simulator has a variety of uses on the ETPS graduate and diploma courses, and has two interchangeable cockpits, one fixed wing fast jet and one side by side rotary wing cockpit. Both cockpits have customisable flying control feel systems, fully customisable head down displays, and can be used to pilot the latest flight models produced by QinetiQ's own Simulation and Training group.

Navy Test Pilot Completes First F-35C Flight
NAVAL AIR STATION PATUXENT RIVER, Md. (Feb. 11, 2011) The US Navy variant of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, the F-35C, conducts a test flight over the Chesapeake Bay. Lt. Cmdr. Eric "Magic" Buus flew the F-35C for two hours, checking instruments that will measure structural loads on the airframe during flight maneuvers. The F-35C is distinct from the F-35A and F-35B variants with larger wing surfaces and reinforced landing gear for greater control when operating in the demanding carrier take-off and landing environment. Hanna Reitsch - Aviator - Test Pilot - Forgotten Legend
Hanna Reitsch (29 March 1912 -- 24 August 1979) was a German aviator and the only woman awarded the Iron Cross First Class and the Luftwaffe Combined Pilots-Observation Badge in Gold with Diamonds during World War II. reitsch was the first woman to fly a helicopter, a rocket plane, and a jet fighter. She set over forty aviation altitude and endurance records during her career, both before and after World War II, and several of her international gliding records are still standing to this day. List of awards and world records 1932: women's gliding endurance record (5.5 hours) 1936: women's gliding distance record (305 km) 1937: first woman to cross the Alps in a glider 1937: the first woman in the world to be promoted to flight captain by Colonel Ernst Udet 1937: world distance record in a helicopter (109 km) 1938: the first person to fly a helicopter Focke-Wulf Fw 61 inside an enclosed space (Deutschlandhalle) 1938: winner of German national gliding competition Sylt-Breslau (Schlesien) 1939: women's world record in gliding[clarification needed] 1943: While in the Luftwaffe, the first woman to pilot a rocket plane (Messerschmitt Me 163). She survived a disastrous crash though with severe injuries and because of this she became the first and only German woman to receive the Iron Cross First Class. 1944: the first woman in the world to pilot a jet aircraft at the Luftwaffe research centre at Reichlin during the trials of the Messerschmitt Me 262 and Heinkel He 162

WWII test pilot Elizabeth Strohfus, one of the few WASPs
Elizabeth Strohfus was one of the first women in the United States to fly military planes. In 1942, the Minnesota native signed up for the newly formed Women's Air Force Service Pilots, or WASPs. The WASPs flew the biggest bomber planes. And they acted as "test pilots" for aircraft that had been damaged in combat. Read more: minnesota.publicradio.org The Women's Air Force Service Pilots received very little recognition for their service. But in July 2009, President Obama signed a bill to give the WASPs, including the 89-year-old Strophus, the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest award given to civilians.
