Haead of St John Chrysostom brought to New York
On February 6, 2010, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the honorable head of the universal teacher, St John Chrysostom, housed at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, was brought to the Synodal Cathedral of Our Lady of the Sign. The relic will remain there for the faithful to venerate until February 11. Information concerning the venerable head of St. John Chrysostom In 1652, Tsar Alexis Mikhailovich (1629-1676) learned from Archimandrite Damascene, the abbot of the Vatopedi Monastery on Mount Athos, that the monastery was the guardian of the head of St. John Chrysostom, which the monastic brotherhood had received three hundred years earlier as a gift from the Byzantine emperor, John Cantacuzene (c.1292-1383). The abbot, in the hope of receiving substantial gift and monetary support, offered to send the relic to Moscow of veneration. Alexis gladly accepted the offer and commanded Damascene and his monastic brotherhood to travel to Moscow and to see the eyes of his royal majesty. He promised to return the head of the Saint in the custody of the same person who had brought it to Moscow. In 1655, Damascene brought the holy relic to Moscow, but he never got opportunity to return with it to Vatopedi. Tsar Alexis tricked the monks and kept the relic, at first, he said, temporarily, but then for good. All of the appeals and petitions of the visiting monastic allowed himself publicly to express his displeasure at the turn of ...

Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom - Musical excerpts
The Divine Liturgy, θεία λειτουργία, of St. John Chrysostom is the second most practiced Liturgy in Christendom (next to the Roman rite Mass). This video is a tribute to the great Liturgy of the east, not a live presentation of it. This is the primarily used Divine Liturgy of the Eastern Churches (Orthodox and Catholic). This video contains a number of images of the Liturgy in practice across a wide array of churches and rites. The musical selections, from the CD "Sacred Treasures" are (in order) the Great Ektenia, Cherubic Hymn, Amen and With Thy Spirit, and Otche Nash. God bless you all.

St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival
Introduced in 1983, the St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival provides Greek Orthodox teenagers the opportunity to write and talk about their faith. The Oratorical Festival Program begins at the Parish Level and is divided into two divisions; the Junior Division for students in the 7th to 9th grades and the Senior Division for teenagers in the 10th to 12th grades. The top speakers in each division advance to the district level(featured example here) and if selected become one of two finalists in their division to represent their district at their Metropolis Oratorical Festival. The top speaker in each division is then selected to participate in the Archdiocese Finals, which is hosted by a different Metropolis each year. All eighteen finalists at the Archdiocese Finals participate in a weekend of activities, the highlight of which is the delivery of their speeches on Saturday morning. The Oratorical Festival Scholarship Foundation provides college scholarships in the amount of $2000, $1500, and $1000 to the top three speakers in each division. In addition, those finalists who receive a rank of Honorable Mention are awarded a $500 United States Savings Bond. Fr. John and Presvytera Margaret Orfanakos serve as the Archdiocese Festival Co-Chairs.
