Driving from Toronto to Elora Gorge Conservation Area via Highway 401 and Hanlon Parkway
This is a video of me driving from northern Toronto (North York) to Elora Gorge Conservation Area, a total trip of around 110 km (68 miles). The trip was undertaken in July, 2009. The video is sped up approximately 8 times. Major routes along the way: 1. Allen Rd. - an urban expressway in Toronto with subway tracks running in its centre. 2. Highway 401 - like in many of my trips, a big chunk of this one is on Highway 401 (westbound). Unlike in my previous videos, in this one you can quite clearly see the giant collector-express system of the 401 in the Toronto area. 3. Hanlon Parkway (Highway 6 and 7) - a suburban expressway near and in the city of Guelph. 4. Highway 6 and a few rural roads. The music is: Above & Beyond presents OceanLab - On A Good Day Above & Beyond - Alone Tonight

50 Days by Sea Kayak in the Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area
The wild and rugged shores of northern Lake Superior have a captivating presence that cannot be denied. For those who have traveled upon her, Superiors stunning beauty and immense power is very well known. In the summer of 2008 three Lakehead University students in the Lake Superior Research Group (LSRG): Aaron Nicholson, Jessica Johnson, and Zack Kruzins embarked upon a 50-day sea kayak expedition within the newly announced National Marine Conservation Area. While studying everything from campsites to water trails, risk management, arctic disjunct plants, lichen, terraced beaches and more, the three were treated with many of Superiors gifts. This film, a reflection of their expedition, was created as a tribute to the stunning beauty and power of Lake Superior. Nicest pictures from the Ngorongoro(crater) and the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area or NCA is a conservation area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site situated 180 km (112 miles) west of Arusha in the Crater Highlands area of Tanzania. The conservation area is administered by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, an arm of the Tanzanian government, and its boundaries follow the boundary of the Ngorongoro Division of Ngorongoro District. The Ngorongoro Crater, a large volcanic caldera, lies within the area. The Ngorongoro area originally was part of the Serengeti National Park when it was created by the British in 1951. A population of approximately 25000 large animals, largely ungulates along with reputedly the highest density of mammalian predators in Africa, lives in the crater. Large animals in the crater include the black rhinoceros, the local population of which declined from about 108 in 1964-66 to between 11-14 in 1995, and the hippopotamus, which is very uncommon in the area. There also are many other ungulates: the wildebeest (7000 estimated in 1994), the zebra (4000), the eland, and Grant's and Thompson's gazelles (3000). The crater has the densest known population of lions, numbering 62 in 2001. On the crater rim are leopards, elephants - numbering 42 in 1987 but only 29 in 1992 - mountain reedbuck, and buffalo (4000 in 1994). The Serengeti ecosystem is a geographical region located in north-western Tanzania and extends to south-western Kenya between latitudes 1 and 3 S and longitudes 34 and 36 E. It spans ...

Wildlife Management Areas in Tanzania, Promoting Community Based Conservation and Livelihoods
Produced by Real2Reel Film Productions, www.real2reel.org Tanzania is uniquely rich in wildlife and natural resources, with over 28% of the country directly protected through national parks, game reserves, forest reserves and other conservation areas. However protected areas are not sufficient to alone accommodate wildlife migration patterns, which often run outside these zones causing conflicts with the populations settled there. In 1998, USAID joined hands with the Government of Tanzania, other donors and conservation NGOs, to undertake a bold new approach in community based conservation. Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs), which are community owned and managed conservation areas, have emerged as the best hope for mitigating human-wildlife conflict outside protected areas. This documentary gives a brief overview of the process for establishing a WMA, the challenges, as well as prospects in making WMAs economically viable as wildlife conservation enterprises.

Welcome to Habitat Flats!
Several years ago, Tony Vandemore and like minded waterfowl enthusiasts established a friendship that grew into the vision which we now call Habitat Flats. Years of collected resources, knowledge and passion for waterfowling has evolved into this opportunity for our guests to come and experience some of the finest waterfowling in the Midwest. We are truly committed to careful stewardship of our lands, conservation minded with intensive focus placed on management. We are located in North central MO in an area referred to as the "Golden Triangle" among waterfowlers. Fountain Grove Conservation Area, Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge and Grand Pass Conservation area, Dalton Cutoff and the Missouri River are the corners of this area. It winters a staggering number of birds.

Flying around Lake Mývatn in Iceland
Part-7 Ingólfshöfði Puffin island www.youtube.com Mývatn is a shallow eutrophic lake situated in an area of active volcanism in the north of Iceland, not far from Krafla volcano. The lake and its surrounding wetlands have an exceptionally rich fauna of waterbirds, especially ducks. The lake was created by a large basaltic lava eruption 2300 years ago, and the surrounding landscape is dominated by volcanic landforms, including lava pillars and rootless vents (pseudocraters). The effluent river Laxá is known for its rich fishing for Brown Trout and Atlantic Salmon. The name of the lake (Icelandic "mý" = midge, "vatn" = lake; the lake of midges) comes from the huge numbers of flies (midges) to be found there in the summer. The name Mývatn is sometimes used not only for the lake but the whole surrounding inhabited area. The River Laxá, Lake Mývatn and the surrounding wetlands are protected as a nature reserve (The Mývatn-Laxá Nature Conservation Area). iceland extreme Here are some more pictures from some new trip this summer on trips with tourist and on my trike or ultralight: (Trip with Peter around Iceland, totally mad this guy, but he is pro!) Hiking at Red Rock Canyon, Near Las Vegas, Nevada
Today we I visited Red Rock Canyon, which is about 20 miles from Las Vegas. Music: www.youtube.com/user/tps607 Here are some notes about the area: Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Nevada is an area managed by the Bureau of Land Management as part of its National Landscape Conservation System, and protected as a National Conservation Area. It is located about 15 miles (24 km) west of Las Vegas, and easily seen from the Las Vegas Strip. The area is visited by over 1 million visitors each year. The conservation area showcases a set of large red rock formations: a set of sandstone peaks and walls called the Keystone Thrust. The walls are up to 3000 feet (910 m) high, making them a popular hiking and rock climbing destination. The highest point is La Madre Mountain, at 8154 feet (2485 m). A one-way loop road, 13 miles (21 km) long, provides vehicle access to many of the features in the area. Several side roads and parking areas allow access to many of the trails located in the area. A visitor center is located at the start of the loop road. The loop road is very popular for bicycle touring; it begins with a moderate climb, then is mostly downhill or flat. Red Rock Canyon itself is a side-canyon accessible only by four-wheel-drive road off of the scenic loop. The unnamed but often visited valley cut through by State Route 159 is commonly, but incorrectly, referred to as Red Rock Canyon. The massive wall of rock called the Wilson Cliffs, or Keystone Thrust, can be ...

Tanzania Ngorongoro Crater Video Safari
The Ngorongoro Crater is often called 'Africa's Eden' and the '8th Natural Wonder of the World,' a visit to the crater is a main drawcard for tourists coming to Tanzania and a definite world-class attraction. Within the crater rim, large herds of zebra and wildebeest graze nearby while sleeping lions laze in the sun. At dawn, the endangered black rhino returns to the thick cover of the crater forests after grazing on dew-laden grass in the morning mist. Just outside the crater's ridge, tall Masaai herd their cattle and goats over green pastures through the highland slopes, living alongside the wildlife as they have for centuries. Ngorongoro Conservation Area includes its eponymous famous crater, Olduvai Gorge, and huge expanses of highland plains, scrub bush, and forests that cover approximately 8300 square kilometres. A protected area, only indigenous tribes such as the Masaai are allowed to live within its borders. Lake Ndutu and Masek, both alkaline soda lakes are home to rich game populations, as well as a series of peaks and volcanoes and make the Conservation Area a unique and beautiful landscape. Of course, the crater itself, actually a type of collapsed volcano called a caldera, is the main attraction. Accommodation is located on its ridges and after a beautiful descent down the crater rim, passing lush rain forest and thick vegetation, the flora opens to grassy plains throughout the crater floor. The game viewing is truly incredible, and the topography and views ...
