Essex /ˈɛsᵻks/ is a county in England, immediately north-east of London. It borders the counties of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire to the north, Hertfordshire to the west, Kent across the estuary of the River Thames to the south and London to the south-west. The county town is Chelmsford, which is the only city in the county. Essex occupies the east of the pre-England Kingdom of Essex. As well as rural areas, the county also includes the Lakeside Shopping Centre, London Stansted Airport and the new towns of Basildon and Harlow.
The name Essex originates in the Anglo-Saxon period of the Early Middle Ages and has its root in the Old English Ēastseaxe (i.e. the "East Saxons"), the eastern kingdom of the Saxons (cf. Middlesex and Sussex) during the Heptarchy. Originally recorded in AD 527, Essex occupied territory to the north of the River Thames, incorporating all of what later became Middlesex (which probably included Surrey) and most of what later became Hertfordshire. Its territory was later restricted to lands east of the River Lea.Colchester in the north east of the county is Britain's oldest recorded town, dating back to before the Roman conquest, when it was known as Camulodunum and was sufficiently well-developed to have its own mint. In AD 824, following the battle of Ethandun, the kingdoms of the East Saxons, the South Saxons and the Kentish were absorbed into the kingdom of the West Saxons, uniting Saxland under King Alfred's grandfather Egberht. In changes before the Norman conquest the East Saxons were subsumed into the Kingdom of England and, following the Norman conquest, Essex became a county.
Broomfield Hospital is the general hospital for Chelmsford, England and the surrounding areas. It is the largest within the Mid Essex Hospitals Services Trust and is an 800-bed acute hospital which offers a wide range of services. The world-renowned St. Andrew's Centre - a specialist unit for cleft lip and palate, burns and plastic surgery - is also located at Broomfield Hospital.
Broomfield Hospital, originally known as Essex County Hospital was opened in 1940 as a hospital for the treatment of tuberculosis patients. It was due to open in 1937, but this was delayed due to the Second World War. Until 1959 all the patients in the 312 beds were male and length of stay ranged from six months to four years. The hospital was soon working to full capacity and was the only centre for chest surgery for pulmonary tuberculosis in Essex. Towards the end of the World War II ar 50 per cent of patients were ex-servicemen. The Hospital's first physician superintendent and administrator was Dr William Lyall Yell.

FABSISTERS Amazing vids, rich talent brilliant show, Wonderful! A tropical storm failed to faze former RAF Air Sea Rescue pilot Nicky Smith who guided her yellow and white Explorer in for a perfect landing, bringing with her registrar Dr Imogen Bowring and paramedic Dan Firmin. Viewers may not be able to see the rain lashing down, one spot appears to the left of my camera lens, but you can hear the old wind blowing - however, by the time the chopper was due to go the good old British weather changed like the wind and it became a blue sky afternoon. Broomfield Hospital's £1.25 million helideck, specially built to land Essex (filmed) and Herts Air Ambulances, is reaching for the skies. # The first part of two videos featuring the late, great Petal's final glorious day at the Essex Chronicle. Staff at The Chronicle bid a fond farewell to perennial flower girl Petal Hawkins, who had been with the company for a grand total of 27 years. Vivacious, colourful, the Doyenne of the Editorial Department - where would they be without her? Petal retired graciously on her 62 birthday on January 27th 1997 after a career which has included being secretary to three editors. She was also at the helm of the Chronicle's successful leisure club for readers for 17 years and organised the Mrs Chelmsford competition which ran for many years. She said the work had been fascinating and the best part had been the contact with readers. Petal has travelled to most countries in Europe and the ...
