Studies in Augustinian Spirituality: The Relevance of Augustine for Young Adults Today
In this engaging lecture, Rev. Theodore Tack, OSA, will present a cogent argument for why the life of Augustine is still relevant to Villanova University and every member of the campus community. Fr. Ted has been an Augustinian for over 60 years. During this time he has served as head master of Cascia Hall Preparatory School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, taught moral theology at the Augustinianum in Rome, and served as prior general of the Order of Saint Augustine. Among his books and articles are If Augustine Were Alive: Augustine's Religious Ideal for Today and As One Struggling Christian to Another: Augustine's Christian Ideal.

#18 Augustinian «A Mighty Fortress Is Our GOD» at Lutheran Cathedral Oslo Domkirke
The Spear of Destiny | St. Augustine's «A Mighty Fortress Is Our GOD» (German, Ein' feste Burg ist unser Gott) and 1529 INRI Crucifix at Martin Luder's Oslo Domkirke -- Lutheran cathedral completed in 1697. This is Olso's Second oldest Church dating from 1697 and contains elaborate stained glass from Emanual Vigeland ( the famous Gustav's brother). The cathedral has been consecrated in 1697. You can see there the Emanuel Vigeland's stained glass window and the nice altar showing The Last Supper. The altar shovel of the Domkirke was made by Michael Rasch in the 1748. It rappresents the Last Dinner and the Crucifixion. In the years ago it was moved into different Norwegian's churches but in 1950 it comes back to Oslo. The nice organ was made in the 17th century. Augustine was born in 354 to a pagan father named Patricius and a Christian mother named Monica in the municipium of Thagaste (now Souk Ahras, Algeria) in Roman Africa. It is assumed that his mother, Monica, was of Berber origin, on the basis of her name, but as his family were honestiores, Augustine's first language is likely to have been Latin. At age 17, through the generosity of fellow citizen Romanianus,[20] Augustine went to Carthage to continue his education in rhetoric. Although raised as a Christian, Augustine left the church to follow the Manichaean religion, much to the despair of his mother, Monica. At a young age, he began an affair with a young woman in Carthage. She was his lover for over thirteen ...

Augustinian Volunteers Australian Promo 2011
Now here's a movement that's going place. Have you heard about the Augustinian Volunteers Australia? We've been going a little over 4 years and have been able to places up to 30 volunteers in place of need around Australia
Our Volunteers work alongside the Augustinians in the most marginal places in society, experiences thing extent of need even in this country of opportunity and hopefully standing beside those with few options. Augustinian Volunteers seek to build community amongst themselves and with those at the edges of society in much the same way as Augustine himself drew a group of friends together who then nurtured new societies in a world dominated by the Empire of Rome.
Standing beside the needy may lead to action on their behalf. Augustinians advocate on behalf of the poor in our society because that was the position Jesus took in the society of his day. Augustine too spent long hours listening to the poor in his tribunals and advocating for them, even at times writing to Roman Authorities to remonstrate about the inability of the law to deal with them.

The Thomas F. Martin Saint Augustine Fellow Public Lecture
"Dr. James Patout Burns "To Have and to Share: An Augustinian Approach to Christian Marriage" Marriage, in the Roman imperial culture, was an institution for maintaining a multi-generational family and for transmitting its property. The fidelity of the wife was necessary to guarantee the parentage of the couple's offspring and thus their right to the property of both mother and father. Emperor Constantine's conversion provided an opportunity for Christians to modify this social system. Augustine of Hippo challenged Christian spouses to mutual fidelity and to share their persons and property beyond the limits of kinship and marriage"
