Art patronage has changed dramatically throughout history; the way artists and collectors interact with art has shifted to the modern era. Although there are similarities between early patronage and now, innovations in technology have allowed artists to be more connected than ever before.
A patron is someone who financially supports a person or a collective cause. Examples of patronage are scattered all throughout history but aren’t limited to just art. Many cases of patronage in our history come in the form of painting, sculptures, plays, even poetry. Some of the most notable creators in our history: Leonardo Di Vinci, Michelangelo, William Shakespeare all used patronage to help fund their works.
Patronage provides creators with security. Upcoming artists attempting to break into the field mostly rely on their own primary income to fund their project; purchasing equipment, materials, anything they may need. Although this is a common practice, this leaves the artist vulnerable. Patronage can provide the artist with financial security, allowing them to create bigger, more complex projects that previously wouldn’t be possible.
Upcoming artists often find it challenging to get their work to be viewed by collectors or potential investors. however, patronage helps develop a more privileged relationship between the artists and patrons. to give the artist a platform to share their work. It gives artists the flexibility to work how they are most comfortable, choosing to opt to work exclusively for their community (similar to the Italian Renaissance), or utilizing their connections to seek out new opportunities.
Nowadays, it is easier than ever to get involved with art patronage. You yourself can directly take part in supporting an artist and help to fund their future works; using modern-day patronage to have a direct impact. Art patronage empowers both artists and collectors to engage with this incredible community. Allowing collectors to trade art in a powerful, rewarding way that directly supports the artists.
Through the use of tokenization, artists can wrap their projects into Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs) to be traded on the blockchain; a powerful distributed ledger that records transactions in a secure and immutable way. The authenticity of the artwork is critical, by using blockchain technology we can ensure that collectors are purchasing original, authentic works of art directly from the artists. Eliminating a common issue within the field of art stealing. Once a piece is minted on Minty.Art, it automatically embeds royalties payment to his creator from ownership transfer. t guarantees the artist their fair cut.
