New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the United States' 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is a global city, exerting a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.
York (i/ˈjɔːrk/) is a historic walled city at the confluence of the rivers Ouse and Foss in North Yorkshire, England, and is the traditional county town of Yorkshire to which it gives its name. The city has a rich heritage and has provided the backdrop to major political events in England throughout much of its two millennia of existence. The city offers a wealth of historic attractions, of which York Minster is the most prominent, and a variety of cultural and sporting activities making it a popular tourist destination for millions.
The city was founded by the Romans as Eboracum in 71 AD. It became the capital of the Roman province of Britannia Inferior, and later of the kingdoms of Northumbria and Jórvík. In the Middle Ages, York grew as a major wool trading centre and became the capital of the northern ecclesiastical province of the Church of England, a role it has retained.
In the 19th century, York became a hub of the railway network and a confectionery manufacturing centre. In recent decades, the economy of York has moved from being dominated by its confectionery and railway-related industries to one that provides services. The University of York and health services have become major employers, whilst tourism has become an important element of the local economy.
Greenwich Village, often referred to by locals as simply "the Village", is a neighborhood on the west side of Lower Manhattan, New York City. Greenwich Village has been known as an artists' haven, the Bohemian capital, the cradle of the modern LGBT movement, and the East Coast birthplace of both the Beat and '60s counterculture movements. Groenwijck, one of the Dutch names for the village (meaning "Green District"), was Anglicized to Greenwich.New York University (NYU) is located in Greenwich Village.
Greenwich Village has undergone extensive gentrification and commercialization; the four zip codes that constitute the Village – 10011, 10012, 10013, and 10014 – were all ranked among the ten most expensive in the United States by median housing price in 2014, according to Forbes, with residential property sale prices in the West Village neighborhood typically exceeding US$2,000 per square foot ($22,000/m2) in 2016.
The West Village constitutes the western portion of the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, New York City. The area is roughly bounded by the Hudson River on the west and Sixth Avenue on the east, extending from West 14th Street south to West Houston Street. The Far West Village extends from the Hudson River to Hudson Street. Bordering neighborhoods are Chelsea to the north, Hudson Square – officially designated in 2009 – and the South Village to the south, and the East Village to the east.
The neighborhood is primarily residential, with a multitude of small restaurants, shops, and services. The area is part of Manhattan Community Board 2, as well as of the Sixth Precinct of the New York City Police Department, which also covers an area east of the West Village between Sixth Avenue and Broadway from Houston to 14th Streets. Residential property sale prices in the West Village neighborhood are some of the most expensive in the United States, typically exceeding US$2,000 per square foot ($22,000/m2) in 2016.
A village is a clustered human settlement or community, larger than a hamlet but smaller than a town, with a population ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand. Though often located in rural areas, the term urban village is also applied to certain urban neighbourhoods. Villages are normally permanent, with fixed dwellings; however, transient villages can occur. Further, the dwellings of a village are fairly close to one another, not scattered broadly over the landscape, as a dispersed settlement.
In the past, villages were a usual form of community for societies that practise subsistence agriculture, and also for some non-agricultural societies. In Great Britain, a hamlet earned the right to be called a village when it built a church. In many cultures, towns and cities were few, with only a small proportion of the population living in them. The Industrial Revolution attracted people in larger numbers to work in mills and factories; the concentration of people caused many villages to grow into towns and cities. This also enabled specialization of labor and crafts, and development of many trades. The trend of urbanization continues, though not always in connection with industrialization. Villages have been eclipsed in importance as units of human society and settlement.

Vacation travel video about destination New York City in New York. New York continues to be one of the world’s most famous cities, a true world metropolis and major symbol of the American Dream. Manhattan Island is the city’s most well known district and the Rockefeller Center in Midtown is often referred to as the heart of the New York. The huge hall, with its magnificent vaulted ceiling in Beaux Arts style, has been the city’s central railway station for twelve lines since 1913. On the season finale of Local Guides Swap, Los Angeles' JR travels to New York City to meet Charlie, a fellow Local Guide. Charlie's goal is to show JR that NYC is more than just the typical tourist attractions.
New York City can be crazy expensive but there are a lot of lesser known things to do that are affordable. I hope you enjoy seeing some of my favorite spots in NYC! In Bath, we visit the Georgian House and Roman baths, learn even more about this elegant spa town on a free town walk, drop in on the Fashion Museum and the Museum of Bath at Work, and chuckle our way through the Bizarre Bath street-theater walk. In York, we visit the majestic York Minster, the slice-of-life Yorkshire Museum, and the fun, hands-on National Railway Museum. © 2006 Rick Steves' Europe

The main thing I wanted to eat was at the famous Xi'an Famous Foods for their spicy cumin lamb noodles. But we also enjoyed some incredible dumplings and a rack of cumin coated lamb. It was incredible. 00:22 Journey to Flushing, Queens - The first part of the day was to take the train from Manhattan out to Queens, and more specifically to Flushing. It takes a while, but it’s pretty straightforward to get there by public transportation. 1:42 Xi'an Famous Foods - Located...

I hear the train all night
Sound of its wind blowing through our subtle lives
And I have a job to do walking these cars
Walking all asleep to get to you
But I don't feel your stir beside me
And your not in my morning hour
Some ties are made to break
Some stalks grow high and green to run away
And feel the wake
And these lines tell the truth
These city veins answer all you do
So could you keep me in the pulses
Could you keep me in the sound
I got wise and I got old
Not once, not once did I fall
So don't you know
Maybe you bet on me
While we were still young enough to know
Or to believe
For every year you took
For every soft breathe or loving look
Believe me
And don't keep me like you have me
And don't kiss me like you don't
I got wise and I got old
Not once, not once did I fall
So don't you now
Some land holds a home
Some of my years only hold me to Rome
But I tell myself its true
You see a home you see a man
You see it too
And I say don't you know you have her
Go on kiss her now you boy
I got wise and I got old
Not once, not once did I fall
So don't you now
I got wise and I got old
Not once, not once did I fall
