Robinson Crusoe Island (Archipelago Juan Fernandez) by angelsolcito
Robinson Crusoe island is also known as Juan Fernandez island, located in the archipelago of the same name, just over 400 miles (570 km) off the coast of Chile, right in front of the port of Valparaiso. This volcanic island of ragged and mountainous topography was discovered by accident in 1575 by Portuguese sailor Juan Fernandez and remained pretty much unknown apart from becoming a favorite refuge for pirates such as Edward Davis, John Eaton and Bartholomew Sharp among others. ts everlasting fame, however, was originated over one century later, when the Scotsman sailor Alexander Selkirk was rescued in 1708, after spending four years and four month stranded in the island. His experience was the raw material that inspired Daniel Defoe (1660-1731) to write world famous Robinson Crusoe, first published in April 1719.

The Fortunes and Misfortunes of the Famous Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe - Part 1
The Fortunes and Misfortunes of the Famous Moll Flanders is a 1722 novel by Daniel Defoe. Defoe wrote this after his work as a journalist and pamphleteer. By 1722, Defoe had become recognized as a novelist, with the success of Robinson Crusoe in 1719. His political work was tapering off at this point, due to the fall of both Whig and Tory party leaders with whom he had been associated; Robert Walpole was beginning his rise, and Defoe was never fully at home with the Walpole group. Defoe's Whig views are nevertheless evident in the story of Moll. The full title of the novel tells part of its story: "The Fortunes and Misfortunes of the Famous Moll Flanders, Etc. Who was born in Newgate, and during a life of continu'd Variety for Threescore Years, besides her Childhood, was Twelve Year a Whore, five times a Wife (whereof once to her own brother), Twelve Year a Thief, Eight Year a Transported Felon in Virginia, at last grew Rich, liv'd Honest and died a Penitent. Written from her own Memorandums."

Daniel Defoe: Moll Flanders
Daniel Defoe (/ˌdænjəl dɨˈfoʊ/; ca. 1659--1661 to 24 April 1731), born Daniel Foe, was an English trader, writer, journalist, and pamphleteer, who gained fame for his novel Robinson Crusoe. Defoe is notable for being one of the earliest proponents of the novel, as he helped to popularize the form in Britain and along with others such as Richardson, is among the founders of the English novel. A prolific and versatile writer, he wrote more than 500 books, pamphlets and journals on various topics (including politics, crime, religion, marriage, psychology and the supernatural). He was also a pioneer of economic journalism. The Fortunes and Misfortunes of the Famous Moll Flanders (commonly known simply as Moll Flanders) is a novel written by Daniel Defoe in 1721, after his work as a journalist and pamphleteer. He was also a pioneer of economic journalism. Robinson Crusoe (/ˌrɒbɪnsən ˈkruːsoʊ/) is a novel by Daniel Defoe that was first published in 1719. Epistolary, confessional, and didactic in form, the book is a fictional autobiography of the title character—a castaway who spends 28 years on a remote tropical island near Trinidad, encountering cannibals, captives, and mutineers before being rescued. The story was perhaps influenced by Alexander Selkirk, a Scottish castaway who lived for four years on the Pacific island called "Más a Tierra" (in 1966 its name was changed to Robinson Crusoe Island), Chile. The details of Crusoe's island were probably based on the Caribbean island of Tobago, since that island lies a short distance north of the Venezuelan coast near the mouth of the Orinoco river, in sight of Trinidad. It is also likely that Defoe was inspired by the Latin or English translations of Ibn ...

Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe - A Preview
Talking Classics is pleased to bring you this preview. Born in Newgate Prison and abandoned soon after, Moll Flanders is searching for a secure place in society. Her desire to belong propels her into all kinds of trouble from numerous marriages, bigamy and incest to theft. Charting her progress from an innocent but determined young girl to a contentedly resigned elderly woman, Defoe's novel casts a light on the splendours and iniquities of life in 18th century England and America. It is a tale of sin and repentance, portrayed through a rich pageant of comical scenes. The full volume, read for you by Rowena Cooper can be purchased at iTunes, Amazon and other digital stores. Our sister company Deadtree Publishing also publishes e-books on this and other classic stories.

Moll Flanders side I
This is the 1996 PBS Masterpiece Theater production of Daniel DeFoe's classic novel written in 1722. Great production scenery and authentic costumes.. Well worth watching as it closely follows the book unlike the 1996 big screen version starring Wright and Morgan Freeman, Well worth the effort to watch. Hard to find unless you want to buy This is 3+ hours total.
