Peter Bogdanovich (Interview, 2012) - The Seventh Art: Issue 4, Section 3
An in-depth interview with director Peter Bogdanovich (Paper Moon, What's Up Doc?). www.theseventhart.org Peter Bogdanovich is a legendary filmmaker whose career began in a similar fashion to our own project interviewing filmmakers in a thorough yet conversational manner. His relationships with Ford and Welles, among others, have yielded indispensable books investigating these auteurs' films. His own filmography is just as expansive and intricate, including richly woven odes to classical filmmaking and quite a few films that experienced crippling studio interventions, resulting in films that reward close readings, revisiting (specifically the Director's Cut versions) and discussion. Peter was in Toronto as part of Turner Classic Movies' Road to Hollywood tour, which presented classic films with special guests in ten cities leading up to the TCM Classic Film Festival and included The Last Picture Show. The night before the screening, we were lucky enough to have Peter join us at UNIT BAR, where he shared charming, insightful and emotional stories on the topic of our favourite Bogdanovich films, specifically those that are criminally under-seen for various reasons: Saint Jack, The Thing Called Love, Texasville and Noises Off... The Seventh Art is an independently produced video magazine about cinema featuring profiles on interesting aspects of the film industry, video essays and in-depth interviews with filmmakers. Don't Talk - Peter Bogdanovich
We had Peter Bogdanovich visit the theater in the early 2000s for a mini-festival of his work. While he was in town, we asked him if he would be kind enough to share his thoughts on people who talk in the theater. The result is one of our favorite reasons for not talking ever - people are trying to work up there!

Allen Elfman Interviews Peter Bogdanovich
Peter is here in Sedona receiving a lifetime achievement award from the 18th annual Sedona International Film Festival. Below is a mini bio for Peter, Great Interview. The son of immigrants fleeing the Nazis--his father was a Serbian painter and pianist and his mother was descended from a rich Jewish Austrian family--Peter Bogdanovich was conceived in Europe but born in America. He originally was an actor in the 1950s, studying his craft with legendary acting teacher Stella Adler and appearing on television and in summer stock. In the early 1960s he achieved notoriety for programming movies at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. An obsessive cinema-goer, sometimes seeing up to 400 movies a year in his youth, Bogdanovich prominently showcased the work of American directors such as John Ford, about whom he subsequently wrote a book based on the notes he had produced for the MOMA retrospective of the director, and the then-underappreciated Howard Hawks. Bogdanovich also brought attention to such forgotten pioneers of American cinema as Allan Dwan.

Mani Nasry an exceptionally talented filmmaker, actor and artist with a sophisticated breadth of education, skills, experience, and professional accomplishments. He trained as an actor and director in New York with Salem Ludwig and with Donna DeMatteo for playwriting. For Mani, the decision to work in the film industry guided his academic decisions from an early age. He attended a Toronto high school renowned for excellence in the arts, and was accepted into one of the highly competitive film program at Ryerson university. It is notable that he went to Ryerson with an already well-established career in theatre, film, television and commercial work, and a range of multi-faceted achievements including producing, cinematography, casting, writing, directing, acting, and editing. On his own he added stints in New York and Los Angeles with leading acting teachers, as well as learning the grace and style of many forms of dance and athletics. With courses perceptively, he has also recognized the importance of acquiring an understanding of the business side of the industry, and the varied aspects of technology and production. There are some people clearly born to follow the path they have chosen from the start. Mani Nasry has the passion to succeed, the curiosity and ingenuity required to lead and collaborate in an industry known for its impact and appeal, and the strength of character and work ethic to immerse himself in finding and telling an unforgettable story.

Film Director Peter Bogdanovich
"Peter Bogdanovich is the acclaimed director of films such as The Last Picture Show and Paper Moon, a film historian, and an actor. Bogdanovich trained as an actor under Stella Adler during his teenage years. A devoted movie fan, he began writing about film in magazines such as Esquire in his early 20s. In 1964, he moved to Hollywood, where he began directing lower-budget films such as The Wild Angels and Targets for Roger Corman. He also published books about John Ford, Fritz Lang, and Allen Dwan. In 1971, Bogdanovich released his first large budget film, The Last Picture Show, to much critical acclaim. The film received eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. In 1972, his next film, the popular What's Up Doc? opened, and in 1973 he released Paper Moon, another highly-praised film, for which Tatum O'Neal won an Oscar. Bogdanovich continued directing films since, including Nickelodeon, Mask, and Texasville, the sequel to The Last Picture Show. In the 1990s he also returned to acting in films such as 1997's Mr. Jealousy, and in 2000 he landed a role on The Sopranos as Dr. Elliot Kupferberg, Lorraine Bracco's psychiatrist. His most recent book Who the Hell's in It was released in September 2004. " - Evan Smith, Texas Monthly Talks, Broadcast 12.30.04
