The Putnam-Rorty Debate and the Pragmatist Revival
American Pragmatism was, if not dead, at least on life support until revived by the debate between Hilary Putnam and Richard Rorty on truth, warrant, and reality. (At least according to some of these philosophers.) [From "American Philosopher", a film by Phillip McReynolds]

Big Thinkers - Daniel Dennett [Philosopher]
Big Thinkers is a former ZDTV (later TechTV) television program. It featured a half-hour interview with a "big thinker" in science, technology, and other fields. Interviews were filmed in a 16:9 format and intercut with public domain material from the Prelinger Archives. This archival footage (mostly film clips from the 1940's and 50's) was used to create visual metaphors highlighting the speaker's points. This episode features Daniel Dennett. He is a prominent American philosopher whose research centers on philosophy of mind, philosophy of science and philosophy of biology, particularly as those fields relate to evolutionary biology and cognitive science. He is currently the co-director of the Center for Cognitive Studies, the Austin B. Fletcher Professor of Philosophy, and a University Professor at Tufts University. Dennett is also a noted atheist and advocate of the Brights movement. (Text from Wikipedia)

21. Democratic Statecraft: Tocqueville's Democracy in America
Introduction to Political Philosophy (PLSC 114) With the emergence of democracies in Europe and the New World at the beginning of the nineteenth century, political philosophers began to re-evaluate the relationship between freedom and equality. Tocqueville, in particular, saw the creation of new forms of social power that presented threats to human liberty. His most famous work, Democracy in America, was written for his French countrymen who were still devoted to the restoration of the monarchy and whom Tocqueville wanted to convince that the democratic social revolution he had witnessed in America was equally representative of France's future. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Sidney Morgenbesser on the American Pragmatists: Section 1
The American Pragmatists: CS Peirce, William James, John Dewey In this program, Columbia University professor Sidney Morgenbesser discusses the nuances of pragmatic philosophy as expressed by three of America's greatest thinkers. Moranbesser examines Peirce's theory of meaning and the notion of fallibilism that supports the changing nature of truth. James' concept of meaning, knowledge, and truth is examined within the context of the usefulness of particular conceptual schemes. The discussion of Dewey focuses on the human quest for warranted beliefs, and his philosophy of education—a "bottom up" approach that bases instruction on a child's real problems and experiences. The American Who Quit Money To Live In A Cave
Another story I did for the BBC.
Mark Sundeen, the author of book, 'The Man Who Quit Money' is a soulful journey into the spirit of Daniel Suelo. Suelo, gave up on money in 2000. He walked into a phone booth, pulled out 30 dollars and left it. Twelve years later, Suelo still does not have a personal i.d. bank accounts, a modern home, does not take money, or live off of federal welfare. Suelo, lives in caves in the canyon lands outside of Moab, UT. Suelo, harvests wild foods, eats roadkill, and dumpster dives. Suelo, is not an isolationist, he still is very active in the Moab community SE Utah politics and he is an active blogger.
Sundeen, knew Suelo from Moab, UT when they both worked together as cooks. But years later Sundeen came across Suelo in a market and payed him no attention. After Sundeen gave thought to the current economy and Suelo's philosophy he was inspired to write about Suelo. Sundeen's book focuses on one man, but the message of the book captures the American zeitgeist of a changing economy.

Mani Nasry an exceptionally talented filmmaker, actor and artist with a sophisticated breadth of education, skills, experience, and professional accomplishments. He trained as an actor and director in New York with Salem Ludwig and with Donna DeMatteo for playwriting. For Mani, the decision to work in the film industry guided his academic decisions from an early age. He attended a Toronto high school renowned for excellence in the arts, and was accepted into one of the highly competitive film program at Ryerson university. It is notable that he went to Ryerson with an already well-established career in theatre, film, television and commercial work, and a range of multi-faceted achievements including producing, cinematography, casting, writing, directing, acting, and editing. On his own he added stints in New York and Los Angeles with leading acting teachers, as well as learning the grace and style of many forms of dance and athletics. With courses perceptively, he has also recognized the importance of acquiring an understanding of the business side of the industry, and the varied aspects of technology and production. There are some people clearly born to follow the path they have chosen from the start. Mani Nasry has the passion to succeed, the curiosity and ingenuity required to lead and collaborate in an industry known for its impact and appeal, and the strength of character and work ethic to immerse himself in finding and telling an unforgettable story.

Greenhouse Effect Photos 2010; Songs - "Manipulation" SuperNetCelebrities.Com Rock City Productions. Twitter.
89,357 Views - The hillarious but highly Rocking Greenhouse Effect Videos from their "Final band meeting" Of November 1992 at El Segundo California's Jet City Sound Studio have been spliced into other G.e clips. Four Songs were shot that night; Three Versions of "White Black Thang', Search and Destroy, Two Versions (Or more) of the Beatles cover version of "Please Please me", ...and ofcourse several for the somewhat uptemp G.e. Rocker "Manipulation". Clark Hagins calls the Video for "Manipulation" his favourite; "We look like we're havin' fun there,..we look silly but one can tell that when we played live - We Rocked,..and we rocked hard,...we were a weird unusual band,..to say the least." Greenhouse Effect exploded in notoriety in 2007 with some of Google Videos Most watched clips World Wide; "Our drummer died in 1999 in a bizarre Gardening accident (Laughs)" says Clark Haggins. Ofcourse Hagins is only kidding as he is referring to hillarious Danish Drummer Palle Carlson , the Denmark Drummer who resembles Spinal Tap's first percussionist in old 1965 black and white clips. "Greenhouse Effect was a World sensation for quite a long time,..we attracted alot of attention and 50,000 Twitter Followers,...I never wanted all the internet fun to end,...but I do see things now finally slowing down in 2010" says Clark Hagins. "We only get about two Million looks a day now,...thats pathetic compared to the kind of business we used to do in 2008." - There are ofcourse no plans for Rock's most watched band to reassemble any time soon and Hagins sees the 1992 demise of the band as just another bizarre mistake from his life's journey; "We were around for like 7 years,...Me and Flipper (Phil Keegan Guitarist) had planned to be the biggest Rock Stars in the musical universe - but it never happened,... ,...until I was like 50 years old (Laughs) " says Haggins. "We watched all those music industry bands like Nirvana and Green Day hit it big while we did things like work in cubes and clean Pools,..its just a damn shame" says Higgins. Hagins says that the tired band eventually grew 'into futility' by late 92' ; "We had all these Great songs and a great live show but we made enemies with all of the biggest wigs in Hollyweird ...there was no way I was ever gonna kiss their arsses - I would clean Swimming Pools before I would do that (Laughs)." Hagins calls the Video for "Manipulation" the absolute Last Hurrah for G.E. ; "The End of the video is hella fucking cool - it looks like Ted is trying to fuck me in the ass and then Palle just picks his nose,.. its pure Lame Rock n roll the way you love it,..it's fuckin' hella cool " ================== 148,037 Views - "Ripping Reason" Comes roaring Out of the speakers with sheer Psychedelic Power !! This Track Sounds so Great in this 'other' version - A 1992 "Remix" by sound studio engineer Bill Krodel in El Segundo California with Clark Hagins. "Ripping Reason" is a personal favorite of mine" says Higgins. "I was trying to make it a 'hit' I remember,...sorta like "Brandy" but it is so much 'more' !! It's not really a hit so-to-speak ,...its just a flat out Good solid song - A Great piece of Songwriting,...and it sounds Great At Jango Radio !! 'Ripping' was recorded in the frantic final days of G.e. and it doesn't rely on gimmicks like punk speed or guitar solos to get by,...it drudges along in pure melody to near abstract rock perfection and brilliance !!! The confused and tortured lyrics make this track a real winner in cyberspace - and a somewhat 'unusual' song for the always quirky G.e. !!!!!!!!! =============== Irie Bob. This 1992 Track is a real Winner for Greenhouse Effect Music Online and in particular at Youtube and GoogleVideo.Com "I started SuperNetCelebrities.Com with Homestead Web hosting who I found through Michael Savage's Website -...to help bands get exposure" says Clark Hagins in 2008. "Its my goal to make sure that Great bands like Los Angeles's Batlord get seen more,....and man, do I ever get them seen - ALOT". IRIE BOB IS THE Pixies-Like 60's Stooges Like track that appears as the second song on the 1995 "Fountain Weird CD" available at itunes and CD Baby. "The Song was originally entitled 'Yuri-Bawb' says Clark Higgins; "But when I suddenly saw the Red CD out of the boxes that day - In October of 1994 from Rainbow Records in Los Angeles - ,...I was horrified to see that they called the Song "Irie Bob",..I just laughed in horror because the CD was all printed and all done !! And it seemed to be promoting all that 420 Marijuana culture cliche crap,....'Something I personally never wanted any part of in my life,....but now after 17 years,..the name has stuck,...and sometimes people email me,..thinking that I am this pot-head,..because I wrote Irie Bob by G.e. !!! (Laughs) - IRIE BOB Has become a cult classic of G.e. lore what with it's annoying repetition, distorted bassline, fuzzy guitars (Which Haggins feel need to be turned up more in the final mix), and meandering ly

They Buried the Heart of Leonard Peltier -- but not In the spirit of Crazy Horse (1982)
¤ Alternative Views 150. (N) LEONARD PELTIER: AN AMERICAN POLITICAL PRISONER (1982) en.wikipedia.org tinyurl.com A leader of the American Indian Movement, Leonard Peltier is serving two consecutive life sentences in federal prison for "aiding and abetting" in the deaths of two FBI agents. The highly controversial case has received great international interest, including human rights tribunals and Amnesty International, because of allegations of judicial and FBI misconduct: threatening witnesses, producing false evidence, perjury and withholding evidence. A book about Peltier is being completed and Robert Redford is considering directing a film based on the Peltier case. We present an interview with Peltier's cousin, Steve Robideau, who relates the specifics about Peltier's case as well as some of the other struggles of Native Americans today. Robideau also presents fascinating insights into Native American philosophy and values. PHILOSOPHY: The Writings of Jim Morrison
I go over my favorite quotes of Jim Morrison. Some have wondered why I placed the Lizard King, an American Poet, on my list of philosophers, Gods, and elements which affect my life. Well its because Jim's words probably have impacted me more than any other mans. I place him up there with Plato. Now I know no thoughts are truly new, but Jim took the works of Blake, Huxley, Burroughs, Leary, Nietzsche, etc and put his own views in there and made some amazingly deep comments. Enjoy his words to the music of the Doors, from the Essential Rarities album, here is the Soft Parade (live) UPDATE: Originally I had the Orange Country Suite as the accompaniment, but the Record Companies didn't like that. The new song that is on this is Dax Johnson - A Moment in the life. It is a song from the AudioSwap feature on Youtube.

Sidney Morgenbesser on the American Pragmatists: Section 2
