Smiley's People (1982) Part One
Smiley's People, television adaptation based on the third and final novel (1979) of the "Karla Trilogy", following Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (1974) and The Honourable Schoolboy(1977). Dramatized by John Hopkins for television for the BBC in 1982, as a sequel to the television series Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (1979), again starring Alec Guinness as George Smiley. The screenplay was written by John le Carré and John Hopkins. I decided to upload this series as I am a big fan and wanted to inform others about this sublime series. I do not intend to violate any copyright acts. The copyrights belong to the rightful owners (Paramount Pictures and BBC). Buy this series if you enjoy it.

Alec Guinness sick monologue - THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI (1957)
Go to 54 seconds to get straight into the dialogue. A wicked awesome clip from a great movie, THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI (1957). Alec Guinness, as Colonel Nicholson of the British Army in WW2, delivers a phenomenal monologue right after the completion of the bridge. Incredible writing, performing, and cinematography. Sir Alec Guinness, CH, CBE (2 April 1914 -- 5 August 2000) was an English actor. He was featured in several of the Ealing Comedies, including Kind Hearts and Coronets in which he played eight different characters. He later won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as Colonel Nicholson in The Bridge on the River Kwai. He is known for playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original Star Wars trilogy, Prince Feisal in Lawrence of Arabia, and George Smiley in the TV adaptation of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. He is also known for his portrayal of Herbert Pocket in Great Expectations (1946). The Bridge on the River Kwai opens in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp in Burma in 1943, where a battle of wills rages between camp commander Colonel Saito (Sessue Hayakawa) and newly arrived British colonel Nicholson (Alec Guinness). Saito insists that Nicholson order his men to build a bridge over the river Kwai, which will be used to transport Japanese munitions. Nicholson refuses, despite all the various "persuasive" devices at Saito's disposal. Finally, Nicholson agrees, not so much to cooperate with his captor as to provide a morale-boosting project for the military ...

Terence Davies: Reverse Shot Direct Address #13
The inimitable Terence Davies ("The Deep Blue Sea") has an animated chat with Reverse Shot's Damon Smith about time and memory, T.S. Eliot and Alec Guinness, the terror of being alive and the special magic of American musicals. On the occasion of Davies' latest film, BAMcinématek opens its seven-film retrospective March 22, celebrating "arguably the greatest living British director." New York's Film Forum opens "The Long Day Closes" on March 28. "The Deep Blue Sea," starring Rachel Weisz, is in theaters tomorrow.
