Mudigere is a panchayat town in Chikkamagaluru district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is 35 km from the district headquarters. Several pilgrimage sites such as Dharmasthala (64 km), Horanadu(64 km), Kalasa(52 km), Sringeri(90 km) are near to the town. Poorna Chandra Tejaswi, the Kannada writer, had settled in this town till his death in 2007.
Mudigere is located at 13°08′N 75°38′E / 13.13°N 75.63°E / 13.13; 75.63. It has an average elevation of 915 metres (3001 feet).
The temples Bettada Byraweshwara near Mekanagadde & Nanyada Byraweshwara near Byrapura(Hasakere) which is 25 km from Mudigere are popular tourist destinations in Chickmagaluru, and the College of Horticulure, which offers professional degree in Horticuture and Master's degree in Horticultural sciences (a sub-campus of the University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot) is also situated in Mudigere. Apart from this Zonal Horticultural Research Station, Zonal Agricultural Research Station, Krishi Vigyan Kendra[who?] are involving in conducting research and extension activities in the Hill zone of Karnataka. The annual rainfall is typically very high ranging from 3000–3500 mm./year.[citation needed]
