MY CZECH LANDS (c) 1995 Verse: You are an inspiration for people near and far You're more than just a nation, you are a rising star The flag that I have cherished is still a symbol of pride Your dreams have never perished They are no longer denied Chorus: My Czech Lands, my beautiful Czech Lands You're so strong and free You fill me with everlasting hope For justice and liberty Your days have been cloudy for much too long But those gray days are gone You have spread your wings of freedom My beautiful Czech Lands, your strength lives on and on.

My Czech Lands - jazz
My own, personal composition, written for (former) President Václav Havel back in the 1990s. My other rendition is a ballad and this version is jazzy. Enjoy. (Click on "Show More" to see lyrics below.) MY CZECH LANDS © 1995 Verse: You are an inspiration for people near and far You're more than just a nation, you are a rising star The flag that I have cherished is still a symbol of pride Your dreams have never perished They are no longer denied. Chorus: My Czech Lands, my beautiful Czech Lands You're so strong and free You fill me with everlasting hope For justice and liberty Your days have been cloudy for much too long But those gray days are gone You have spread your wings of freedom My beautiful Czech Lands, your strength lives on and on. (Repeat Chorus) ADDITIONAL LYRICS TO SING WITH CHORUS (JAZZ VERSION): Chorus: Where is my home? It's where I wanna stay Out among the woods and fields Where the birch trees sway I love Dvorak's strain and Smetana's sweet refrain As I listen to the rain on an autumn day I love each golden spire and synagogue Let me walk the winding roads in the city of Prague It is great to be in a land that's truly free There's nothing like the stylish clothes The hot jazz and Kafka's prose My Czech Lands, you are special to me.

Czech national anthem Kde domov můj (Jiří Bělohlávek cond.)
My 100th upload. I thought I would do something special for this occasion, and I had no better idea than the Czech national anthem :-) It's sung by my favourite Czech young singer, Adam Plachetka (23), bass-baritone. Jiří Bělohlávek conducting the orchestra of the National Theatre. 175 years ago, in 1834, this song was sung for the first time. It was a part of the comedy Fidlovačka, or No Anger and No Brawl, by Josef Kajetán Tyl, where it's sung by a blind violinist. Both Tyl himself and František Škroup, the composer, thought the song to be rather average, but it soon became very popular among the nation, who was under the Austrian domination at the time. In the 1870s, there was a wave of criticism of this anthem. It was thought to be too peaceful and lyric. Jan Neruda himself asked Bedřich Smetana to write a new one. Smetana, as the rumours go, refused, saying: "Which song was chosen by the people, that will remain their anthem." English translation Where is my home, where is my home? Water roars across the meadows, Pinewoods rustle among crags, The garden is glorious with spring blossom, Paradise on earth it is to see. And this is that beautiful land, The Czech land, my home, The Czech land, my home. Loose translation by Václav Pinkava Where do I ...

Orthodox saints. Holy New Martyr Gorazd, Bishop of Slovakia and the Czech Lands
Holy New Martyr Gorazd, Bishop of Slovakia and the Czech Lands (1942) (August 22 OC) He was born in 1879 in Moravia and given the name Matthew Pavlik. He became a Roman Catholic priest, active in a movement for reform within the Roman Catholic Church. When Czechoslovakia became an independent state in 1919, about 800000 Christians, including Fr Matthew, approached Bishop Dositheus of the Orthodox Patriarchate of Serbia, asking to be received into the Orthodox faith. Father Matthew was received into the Church in 1920; a year later was made Bishop of the Orthodox of Moravia and Silesia by Patriarch Demetrius of Serbia, and was named for St Gorazd, a disciple of St Methodius (July 27). Though many of the original 'reform' leaders turned back, finding the demands of Orthodoxy too difficult, Bishop Gorazd labored mightily for the restoration of Orthodoxy in Czechoslovakia: he established eleven parishes, translated the divine services into Czech, and published a Czech Prayer Book. During the Second World War, two priests of the Orthodox Cathedral in Prague were arrested because some of the Czech resistance had taken refuge in the Cathedral. It was clear that the Nazis were planning retaliation against the entire Orthodox Church. Bishop Gorazd presented himself to the Nazis and, to save his priests, took full responsibility for the events in the Cathedral. He was arrested, tortured and finally shot on September 4 1942 (August 22 OC). Despite his selfless sacrifice, the ...

Rhapsody - Land of Immortals (Live from Czech Republic)
Rhapsody of Fire - Land of Immortals (Live from Czech Republic) From DVD - Visions From The Enchantes Lands (2007) Lyrics: Hear the silence of the winds making your own destiny go and face the mirror of their sin Only brave hearts found the way breaking all the dragon's spell cross the Argon's glade with heart in hand Land of immortals I wait for my day to reach the wisdom of your skies Land of immortals you must belong to me from here to eternity And between Elgard's hills near the ancient ruins of Kron you will face the trick of the old dwarf To obtain the second key you have to cross the bloody sea where the thirst of Tharos never ends Land of immortals I wait for my day to reach the wisdom of your skies Land of immortals you must belong to me from here to eternity Holy force of wisdom spread through all the air I shall breathe you forever to end this epic holy quest My way will be hard but I would do all to reach the valleys where true heroes ride beyond the ivory gates Land of immortals I wait for my day to reach the wisdom of your skies Land of immortals you must belong to me from here to eternity

Lucia Popp - A. Dvořák "Rusalka" Act l, Rusalka "Song to the Moon"
A. Dvořák "Rusalka" Act l, Rusalka "Song to the Moon" Rusalka - Lucia Popp Conductor - Stefan Soltesz Munich Radio Orchestra (1988) Tribute to Great Soprano Lucia Popp on her birthday, 12 November Rusalka (Czech) is an opera by Antonín Dvořák. The Czech libretto was written by the poet Jaroslav Kvapil (18681950) based on the fairy tales of Karel Jaromír Erben and Božena Němcová; a Rusalka is a water sprite of Slavic mythology, usually inhabiting a lake or river. The opera was first performed in Prague on 31 March 1901, with Růžena Maturová as the first Rusalka. It became an enormous success in Czech lands, and soon gained success also abroad. Synopsis Act l -A meadow by the edge of a lake Three wood-sprites tease the Water-Goblin, ruler of the lake. Rusalka, the Water-Goblin's daughter, tells her father she has fallen in love with a human Prince who comes to swim in the lake, and she wants to become human to embrace him. He tells her it is a bad idea but nonetheless steers her to a witch, Ježibaba, for assistance. Rusalka sings her Song to the Moon, asking it to tell the Prince of her love. Ježibaba tells Rusalka that if she becomes human and is betrayed by the prince, both she and the prince will be eternally damned, and that Rusalka will lose the power of speech when human. Rusalka agrees to the terms and drinks a potion. The Prince, hunting a white doe, finds Rusalka, embraces her, and leads her away, as her father and sisters lament. Act 2 -The garden of the Prince's ...

Czech History 1 - Great Moravia
This is a English summary of the contents of the Czech history textbook České Dějiny stručný přehled. I made this summary/translation while studying for a history text. I never intended to post it online, but it seemed like it might be useful to others, and I don't think it's too bad. My native language is English, and I have been studying Czech for two and a half years now. Some mistakes: CZECH LANDS =/= MORAVIA, Cyrila and Metodě, came to Moravia, and not to Czechia! When I say King, I mean ruler. While making these recordings, I learned tha king means something specific. That there is a crowning, and some sanctioning by the church. None of these figures were kings. edge = border Syn = son sorry When I say "I don't understand that" what is written is that "Northern European countries diffuse into, or meet with, Western Europe." Any other mistakes? Please post a comment bellow.
