Format 67/ Top Gear video effect in Sony Vegas Pro 8 (Tutorial)
1. In "Video FX" under the "Color corrector tab" Add the color corrector "reset to none" (We are going to be adjusting it in a minute) Now with it added to your video, set the setting as follows: Saturation to "1.164" Gain to "1.164" Gamma to "1.000" Offset to "-18.6" 2. Next we are going to add another effect. In "Video FX" under the "Light Rays" tab add "reset to none" (we are going to adjust this one as well). Now that you've added it to your video, set the settings as follows: Sensitivity to "1.000" Strength to "0.000" Radius X to "0.792" Radius Y to "0.683" Feather to "0.644" Blend to "0.633" Noise to "0.000" 3. Now for the last effect. In "Video FX" under the "Gradient Map" tab add "reset to none" (you probably know what comes next by now :P) Set the settings as follows: Amount to "0.8120" Mode set to "Blend" Now the gradient map part you will have to refer to the video for, as it has no settings you can "type in" you just have to adjust the "0" "1" and"2" until it looks correct. For mine I have the 0 as far as it can go to the left, the "1" just barely to the right of the "0", it is actually touching the "0". And finally the 2 is a little more than three quarters to the right (just past where it turns completely white in the gradient). Just a final note, these settings are just suggestions, They just happen to be the settings I used for this exact effect and I listed them out to make it super easy to do it on your own. However, feel free to change the settings ...

Old Top Gear - Toyota Supra
Read it! Fighting among fanboys is welcomed here, just for my own observations. I still wish that you people would quit tossing around ad hominem attacks towards specific car cultures or countries in general. To clarify (before making yourself look inept): This is TOP GEAR (not Fifth Gear) in the old format. This video was made sometime before 2002 because that's when production stopped. Fifth Gear didn't start until 2002. Tiff Needell, Quentin Wilson, and Vicky Butler Henderson all used to present Top Gear. DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT CLAIM THAT THIS IS MINE IN ANY WAY NOR DO I CLAIM OWNERSHIP OF IT IN ANY WAY. THIS IS COPYRIGHT OF THE BBC (and blah blah). If you want to download this video for yourself or whatever, frankly I couldn't any care less but you are responsible for whatever happens to your own copy of the video.

He is best known for his role on the BBC TV show Top Gear along with co-presenters Richard Hammond and James May. He also writes weekly columns for The Sunday Times and The Sun. From a career as a local journalist in the North of England, Clarkson rose to public prominence as a presenter of the original format of Top Gear in 1988. Original Black Stig Makes a comeback - Secret BBC Top Gear clip leaked?
When the new format of BBC Top Gear was launched back in 2002, "The Stig" was originally dressed in black, with his identity kept a secret., but later that year former Formula 1 driver, Perry McCarthy outed himself as The Stig in his autobiography, "Flat Out ,Flat Broke" . "Black Stig" was killed off by driving a highly tuned Jaguar XJS off the flight deck of HMS Invincible. "White Stig" was introduced in series 3, and his identity remained a relative secret until early 2008, when the racing driver Ben Collins was strongly linked with the role. In January 2009, it was confirmed that Collins was indeed "The Stig" In keeping with tradition, and with the leaking of this video, it is now expected that White Stig will be killed off, allowing for a return of Black Stig - although it is doubted that Perry McCarthy will be under the overalls.

Old & New: 60-year-old lenses + 60-day-new camera [Sony Nex 5N, Moller-Bolex Anamorphic, Canon RF]
My Test & Review of a completely new set-up & rig:
New camera & lens system, hardware and post-production-editing-software.
I haven't made or uploaded anything lately; it's been more than a year. I recently jumped ship, to a compact Mirrorless camera system, specifically, the tiny & inexpensive, yet monstrous in performance and features - Sony NEX 5N.
Since my last video, I have sold my Canon 5D2 (had it since they were first released) and all my Iscorama anamorphic lenses (Isco 36 and Isco 42) and Zeiss ZE and Canon EF/L lenses, for financial reasons. Soon after, I then switched to a cheaper Canon 60D, some cheap russian vintage prime lenses and a Kowa B&H; anamorphic lens out front, for about half a year.
Just recently, I purchased the new Sony 5N (mirrorless, APSC sized sensor (similar to 35mm video/film format), interchangeable lens camera), after selling my 60D to replace it with. I also was lucky and found a somewhat rare, mini, tiny anamorphic lens that would be the perfect size for the 5N's smallness and is a perfect match and companion - the Moller Bolex 8/19/1.5x (made for 8mm film). For a taking lens, I wanted to keep the 5N's, and also the Moller/Bolex's small aesthetics and opted to go for an older, smaller, rangefinder lens instead of the typical, bigger SLR lenses. The beauty of old vintage rangefinder lenses is that they don't require a thick adapter like that used for adapting SLR lenses to a mirrorless compact camera system (ie: Nex or micro 4/3 cameras). Rangefinder (Pen-F/LTM/M39/M/Contax-G mounts) lenses are much smaller than SLR lenses, have a much shorter flange-to-film/sensor distance and typically have a small barrel with 39-46mm front filter threads, whereas SLR front filters can go from 49mm all the way to 82mm. The adapters to mount RF lenses on the NEX are Much smaller than SLR lenses, about 1/3 of the thickness. The taking lens I got was the vintage Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 LTM/M39 mount.
The only downside usually found on old RF lenses are their minimum focus distances; which are almost waay to long at 0.7-1m and hard to work with at short distances. This is due to their compact design. One, awesome and new way around this not-so-great-MFD, is a company (Hawk Factory) that sells focusable helicoid M-mount-to-NEX adapters. The double helicoid is sort of like a built-in, focusable, macro-tube and m-to-nex adapter in One. Genius! I actually just received mine today in the mail after a short 1.5 week wait from Taiwan (though this video was shot before I received it; so it is still using a +2 diopter).
The Moller-Bolex 8mm anamorphic I have has a very nice 0.5m MFD (a rare feature to anamorphic lenses, as most only go to 2m and need rare +.5 diopters to get those desired, usable focus ranges); but, my Canon taking lens only goes down to 1m MFD, which cannot take advantage of the Moller-Bolex's awesome MFD without diopters, Lol. But since I now have the Hawk Helicoid adapter, it allows me to focus the Canon RF taking-lens down to even below .5m!..allowing me to take full advantage of the Bolex's .5m MFD WITHOUT diopters! Woot woot! Speed and ease is money!
This new set-up can fit in my pocket, rear jeans pocket, coat pocket, shorts pocket, or any pocket that is reasonably sized. The only pocket it won't fit in are front jeans pockets (since they are usually really super small and thin anyways). And, if I don't feel like having a bulging pocket and want to be a little more comfortable during walks or camera-downtime, I can always opt to just hang the small and light 5N on my belt with a little clip-on carabiner attaching to the 5N's simple, sleek and stylish leather wrist-strap (made by Gordy's if you're wondering). Now, I can go out on the town, city walks, street shoot, with absolutely no camera bag at all (great for being incognito, unobtrusive, or taking it anywhere you couldn't a big DSLR - clubs, bars, intimate venues, casual outings, meetings, etc.). To keep everything pocketable, incog and compact, I also rid of all my old, big, heavy, grip gear for my dslrs (the big super clamp, the heavy and long magic arm, the cumbersome shoulder rigs and ballheads) and replaced them with some nice super small stuff - a nice Table-Top tripod, a Nano-Clamp and a Micro Ballhead, all from Manfrotto, cleverly designed with compactness in mind, good, solid quality, and all fit very easily in my pockets; like a pack-of-smokes easy. These beautifully small tools and grip gear will aid me in static shots, long exposure, timelapses and landscapes and at the same time can be brought anywhere with me in my pockets, when needed, along with my 5N.
So how do I like the Moller-Bolex 19/8/1.5x? Another surprise! SHARP if not sharper than my old Iscoramas and Kowa. I wasn't expecting this, since it was designed for 8mm; but it def covers the entire APSC sensor and is sharp corner to corner, side to side, wide open. Bight blue and purple flares are a nice change of pace and totally welcome and unique

Henry Cole lecture 2009: Professor Hongnam Kim
Transcript:
Thank you for the very generous introduction of me. And I thank all of you for coming this evening to hear my lecture. It is really wonderful to be here - this time Mother Nature finally allowed me to fly into this part of globe. I was very sorry for the postponement of my lecture [which] has inconvenienced many, including my colleagues at the V&A.; Before I left Korea, I went through a Google Search to find out who Henry Cole was – because I did not know about him – and found out really wonderful things about him and felt his contribution was so great in British cultural history, particularly for this eminent museum, and I was very honoured and humbled.
My talk today is about the national museums of the People's Republic of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea and the issue of cultural nationalism at these institutions. Japan was the first in Asia to launch national museums in the late 19th century, starting with the Tokyo National museum, followed by the Kyoto and Nara National Museums. The country now possesses about 4,000 museums. The Republic of Korea (hereafter called Korea) launched its central museum (National Museum) in 1945, absolving the Imperial Household Museum which existed from 1908 and of the Kyongju Museum. Korea now boasts about 1,000 museums. The first national museum which the People's Republic of China (hereafter called China) created was the National History Museum in 1915, followed by the Palace Museum in 1925 and the Museum of Chinese Revolution in 1961. China has set out to have more than 3,000 museums within a few more years. The seats of its 33 provinces already have their own museums, often of impressive scale. The museum fever is spreading in Asia. Economic prosperity and political stability obviously are the major driving force behind such an increase of museums in Asia.
These museums have followed the models of the West in their mission to preserve natural and manmade heritage, disseminate knowledge, and educate people, offering authentic experiences though exhibitions and education programmes. Nevertheless, one peculiarity observed from these institutions is the presence of cultural nationalism of varying intensity, which can be discerned from their collections and other programmes.
As proven by their birth years, cultural nationalism is indeed their birthmark; a powerful driving force in the colonial and post-colonial era, multilayered but with different agendas, it helped these museums join in nation-building or nation-rebuilding, and in consolidating national identity. But when too prevailing, or when left inmost, it can continue to shape all programmes, knowingly and unknowingly, promoting prejudice and disrespect among the people of three countries. It can even take a form of cultural imperialism in which hegemony (in a cultural sense) is the explicit goal of the nation states in relation to foreign cultures, as seen during the colonial period. National museums are the foremost example of social institutions of these three nations that are shaped in the penetrating process of corresponding (being attracted, pressured, and even forced) and even promoting the values of cultural nationalism. The outcome can be unhealthy and anti-educational, especially for children and the youths.
It was this issue of cultural nationalism which was of major concern during my tenure as the Director of Korea's National Museum. The question was how much of it is a necessity, and how much of it should be expelled to make the Asian community a healthier and more friendly one with mutual tolerance and respect. In this rapidly changing social world, there isn't much for us to hang onto. Museums, and perhaps universities and libraries, may remain as the last institutions for spiritual comforts, purification, and the reassurance of human dignity.
Now, first, let me brief you on the nature of cultural nationalism in the region. Then I will move on to describe how cultural nationalism was operating in the past, and what sorts of change have occurred to affect these museums in recent years. I must say that the subject turned out to be so loaded that it was like disturbing a beehive. I hope you will bear with me.
Cultural Nationalism and National Museums in East Asia
The first is the cultural nationalism and the national museums of East Asia. Cultural nationalism in East Asia is deeply rooted in the region’s geopolitical history. While I talk, I shall have on the screen a moving cultural map of 2000 years for the region as a simple historical survey. The dramatic changes in this map are the result of bloody wars, conquests, colonisation, and independence struggles which involved nearly 60 ethnic people-groups in the East Asian region. Included are the Han Chinese, the Korean and the Japanese who became the final winners in the region as of today. Naturally, ethnic solidarity, patriotism and nationalism were the strongest weapons in these struggles for ethnic and national surv

Autodesk, Apple, Avid or Adobe?
As you might know Apple recently released the successor to Final Cut 7 - the much debated Final Cut Pro X. As it seems Apple has chosen a slightly different target group for their new application meaning that at the moment FCPX will not have what it takes for replacing our Online Suites equipped with the previous version of Final Cut. These will of course function in their current state. And as we understand it they will continue to do so under OS X Lion, Apple’s next system version coming this July.
Stopp have been testing FCPX and although it has a shiny new interface and a few interesting ideas, it clearly does not have the professional features needed to give our clients what they want: A product that can sit in a collaborative environment ready to take on all your needs and wishes and quickly deliver high quality material in a cost efficient way.
We won't do an in depth review on what important features are missing in X but just to name a few: No EDL and XML support. No video I/O. No OMF and AAF export. No backwards compatibility with old Final Cut projects and a bunch of other stuff. Some of these issues will be fixed either through third party solutions or by Apple themselves. Some of them probably not. Will FCPX ever be the online tool we wanted it to be? Only time will tell.
Stopp however will not stand still and wait for this. We are always exploring other options. In parallel with testing FCPX we have also evaluated Adobe’s Creative Suite with Premiere Pro and After Effects in combination. We liked it so much that we bought several packages. They are being installed in our two Final Cut suites as we speak and our online operators will spend all their spare time to master these new tools.
Premiere Pro has been around for many years. It has somewhat been in the shadow of Final Cut but this latest CS5.5 release has brought it out to shine, with features like 64-bit code, GPU acceleration, support for many media formats like RED and DPX. But probably the most exciting feature is something called “Dynamic Link”. This makes the integration of other packages like Photoshop or Illustrator a breeze but most importantly the link to After Effects works extremely well and there is zero effort in setting this up. For example, a composition from After Effects can be piped directly to Premiere Pro and any change in After Effects will immediately be reflected in Premiere without rendering. This might sound as a small thing but we loved After Effects before and we use it for online work in tandem with Final Cut. Now using After Effects together with Premiere will be even easier. This is a package that exists today and it can easily do the same type of work that our Final Cut stations take care of today.
The bottom line is that Stopp is constantly on the hunt for new and interesting technology. If the solution comes from Autodesk, Apple, Avid or Adobe - it doesn’t matter.
We will always strive to find you the best tools for your job at a price point that fits the bill.
- - -
Stopp Online and Telecine currently runs: 9 x FCP and now 3 x Premiere as well, 1 x Smoke on Mac, 1 x Flame, 2 x Flint, 4 x Resolve + Scanity and a Film Lab, 4 x Nuke and 7 XSI stations.
On top of that we have a sound studio fully equipped with Pro Tools and outboard gear.

HOW DOES JEREMY CLARKSON FEEL ABOUT THE STIG - TOP GEAR 10th december
clarkson on the one show Jeremy Charles Robert Clarkson (born 11 April 1960) is a British broadcaster and journalist who specialises in motoring.
