2010 Grammy Award Nominations Recap
Twitter.com - Follow Us! The Grammy Nominations are in - and we're revealing the highlights. You've reached Clevver TV. Hey everybody! I'm Dana Ward with the 2010 Grammy Nom Recap. K, guys. These are the Oscars of the music industry. And this year's Grammy Awards already have some major hype, just shortly after the nominations got revealed. An impressive 23 combined nominations got added up between Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift - all the single ladies followed by paparazzi are looking at that Grammy Award saying 'you belong with me'. Seriously, these 3 musicians have shown some serious female power with the other music awards shows through the year, but who will take the cake this most important round? The Record of the Year category includes Beyonce's Halo, I Gotta Feeling for The Black Eyed Peas, Kings of Leon's Use Somebody, Poker Face for Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift's You Belong with Me. Then each of those track records - minus Kings of Leon and plus Dave Matthews Band - received a nom for Album of the Year. Added into the equation for Song of the Year, Maxwell's Pretty Wings amongst Use Somebody, Poker Face, Single Ladies and You Belong with Me. Best New Artist is another big category with Zac Brown Band, Keri Hilson, MGMT, Silversun Pickups and The Ting Tings. Who do you think will win out of these noms? Then, of course, the Recording Academy further breaks down a bunch of musical genres: pop, dance, rock, alternative, r and b, rap, country, new age, jazz ...

Weekend wins for Obama
Hello on this Monday the 11 day of February 2008. I'm Rebecca Field in for Kristin Volk with a UPI Headline Update. Senator Barack Obama is riding a wave of momentum into tomorrow's Potomac primaries after sweeping the weekend's presidential contests and even winning a Grammy. Obama took the lead over his rival Senator Hillary Clinton, winning Maine, Washington, Nebraska, Louisiana and the US Virgin Islands. The Illinois senator even beat out two former Democratic presidents to take home a Grammy award last night. His recording of his book, "The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream" took the recording academy's award for best spoken word album, topping former presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter. Tomorrow, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC will hold contests. Democratic White House hopeful Hillary Clinton has a new campaign manager. Maggie Williams is now the New York Senator's chief aide. Williams, who was a top adviser when Clinton was First Lady, has taken over for Patti Solis Doyle. Doyle was moved into the role of senior adviser. Clinton shook up her campaign after Saturday's losses to Barack Obama. Defense Secretary Robert Gates is endorsing the idea of pausing the drawdown of US forces from Iraq this summer. This comes as two car bombs killed eleven people in Iraq today during Gates' visit there. For the first time, the defense secretary said that a brief period of evaluation makes sense. His comment came after a meeting with General ...

Ruby Dee, Oscar Nomination - Best Supporting Actress
Dee was born Ruby Ann Wallace in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Gladys Hightower and Marshall Edward Nathaniel Wallace, a cook, waiter, and porter. After her mother left the family, Dee's father remarried to Emma Amelia (née Benson), a schoolteacher.[1][2][3][4] Dee grew up in Harlem, New York. She graduated in 1945 from Hunter College with degrees in French and Spanish, and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Inc. She made several appearances on Broadway before receiving national recognition for her role in the 1950 film The Jackie Robinson Story. Dee's career in acting has crossed all major forms of media over a span of eight decades, including the films A Raisin in the Sun, in which she recreated her stage role as a suffering housewife in the projects, and Edge of the City. She played both roles opposite Sidney Poitier. During the 1960s, Dee appeared in such politically charged films as Gone Are the Days and The Incident, which is recognized as helping pave the way for young African-American actors and filmmakers. She has been nominated for eight Emmy Awards, winning twice: once for her role in the 1990 TV film Decoration Day, and again for her television guest appearance in the China Beach episode, "Skylark". Her late husband Ossie Davis (1917-2005) also appeared in that episode. In 2007 the winner of the Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album was tied between (i) Dee and Ossie Davis for "With Ossie And Ruby: In This Life Together", and (ii) former President ...

David Sanchez Jazz Ensemble - 1/27/2012 (Henry Cole Drum Solo)
The Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame will present on Friday, January 27, at 7 pm the jazz saxophonist/composer David Sánchez in concert with a free student workshop at 10 am at the Carver Theatre. Sánchez's concert will feature his original piece "La Leyenda del Cañaveral" which premiered at Carnegie Hall. This multi-movement work -- written by Mr. Sánchez and made possible by a 2005 CMA New Jazz Creation and Development Program -- traces the migration of African people to the Caribbean through musical folklore, jazz, and the music of Tanzania and the Baca forest people of East Cameroon. Set to a poem, La Leyenda del Cañaveral includes spoken word and music compositional styles that weave together Afro-Caribbean, Jazz, and East African elements. The poem refers to the travels of African people from Africa to the Caribbean, with its central theme being the history and anecdotes of people who worked on sugar cane plantations. Latin Grammy Award-winning saxophonist and composer David Sánchez has forged a critically acclaimed career incorporating the musical traditions of Cuba and Brazil into his jazz compositions. Born in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, David Sánchez began playing percussion and drums at the age of eight before migrating to tenor saxophone. While a student at Rutgers University, Sánchez took advantage of his close proximity to New York City and quickly became a member of its jazz scene, performing with Eddie Palmieri, who brought Sánchez to the attention of Dizzy Gillespie ...

Jill Scott Live!!! (UNRELEASED FOOTAGE)
Scott began her performing career as a spoken word artist, appearing at live poetry readings to perform her work. She was eventually discovered by Amir "?uestlove" Thompson of The Roots. Questlove invited her to join the band in the studio, and the collaboration resulted in a co-writing credit for Scott for the song, "You Got Me." In 2000, Erykah Badu and The Roots won the Grammy for best rap performance by a duo or group for "You Got Me".[4] Subsequently, Scott collaborated with Eric Benet, Will Smith, and Common, and broadened her performing experience by touring Canada in a production of the Broadway musical Rent. Scott was the first artist signed to Steve McKeever's 'Hidden Beach Recordings' label. Her debut album, Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1 was released in 2000. She experienced some chart success and notice with the single "A Long Walk", which eventually earned her a Grammy nomination in early 2003 for Best Female Vocal Performance. Scott lost that award, but won a 2005 Grammy for Best Urban/Alternative R&B; Performance for "Cross My Mind." The live album, Experience:Jill Scott 826+, was released November 2001. Scott's second full-length album, Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2, followed in 2004. Scott continues to write poetry; a compilation volume of her poems, The Moments, The Minutes, The Hours, was published and released by St. Martin's Press in April 2005.[5] In early 2007 Scott was featured on the George Benson & Al Jarreau ...

He was the Democratic Party nominee for President in the 2000 US presidential election. Gore is currently an author, businessperson, and environmental activist. He was previously an elected official for 24 years, representing Tennessee in the US House of Representatives (1977--85), and later in the US Senate (1985--93), and finally becoming Vice President in 1993. In the 2000 presidential election, Gore won the popular vote by more than 500000 votes. However, he ultimately lost the Electoral College, and the election, to Republican George W. Bush when the US Supreme Court settled the legal controversy over the Florida vote recount by ruling 5-4 in favor of Bush. It was the only time in history that the Supreme Court may have determined the outcome of a presidential election. He is a founder and current chair of the Alliance for Climate Protection, the co-founder and chair of Generation Investment Management, the co-founder and chair of Current TV, a member of the Board of Directors of Apple Inc., and a senior adviser to Google.[6] Gore is also a partner in the venture capital firm, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, heading that firm's climate change solutions group.
