The Future Internet: Service Web 3.0
Future Internet - Supported by STI International: www.sti2.org With over a billion users, today's Internet is arguably the most successful human artifact ever created. The Future Internet, an initiative driven by the European Union, has become a prime research focus of STI International and the Service Web 3.0 project. In order to explain, promote, and attract new contributors, we created a video to be viewed by stakeholders, who may be non-experts, in a new generation Internet. The video outlines the basic themes of the European Union's Future Internet initiative. These include an Internet of Services, where services are ubiquitous; an Internet of Things where in principle every physical object becomes an online addressable resource; a Mobile Internet where 24/7 seamless connectivity over multiple devices is the norm; and the need for semantics in order to meet the challenges presented by the dramatic increase in the scale of content and users. Welcome to "Semantic Web Technologies"
Open Online Course offered at openHPI openhpi.de The Web has become an object of our daily life and the amount of information in the web is ever growing. Besides plain texts, especially multimedia information such as graphics, audio or video has become a predominant part within the web's information traffic. But, how to find some useful information within this huge information space? Traditional search engines will come to the limits of their powers, when it comes to understanding information content. The Semantic Web is an extension of the traditional web in the sense that the information implicitly contained in natural language text is complemented by explicit semantics based on formal knowledge representation. In this course, you will learn the fundamentals of Semantic Web technologies. You will learn how to represent knowledge and how to access and benefit from semantic data on the Web. Start: Feb 4th, 2013 Duration: 6 weeks Course language: English

Sublime & Subliminal: Semantics for Online Advertising
Google Tech Talks August 6, 2008 ABSTRACT Web advertising, hasn't delivered its potential value to advertisers. This is partcularly true for contextual advertisement. The main problem is that the marriage of ad and the content of a page is based on algorithms that do not offer satisfactory results in understanding the actual meaning of the content of a web page. Try the search "stock base" in Google or Yahoo. You will get many more pages about equities than you do about soup. Yet the ads placed on these pages are too often not related to the main topic of the article. Showing an ad about food when the intended use of "stock base" was in the context of equities it's a mismatch. Expert System now offers a revolutionary solution that automatically processes the meaning of the text to ensure that the ads selected are relevant. Expert System's CSA (Cogito Semantic Ad) relies on its Semantic Intelligence technology to analyze text on the page through linguistic analysis and Semantic Comprehension to assure that promotional information can be served more effectively. Speaker: Marco Varone Founder, CTO, and Director of the Board of Expert System, Marco is the "father" of the technology behind the Company's products and a key driver of the Company with his vision and technical skills. Marco is responsible for the R activities and roadmap in the software and linguistic areas. Marco holds a degree in Computer Science at the University of Modena with honors. Speaker: Luca Scagliarini ...

Iraq: Mission Accomplished - Or Just Semantics and Broken Promises?
08/30/2010 - www.RonPaul.com Amid much fanfare last week the last supposed combat troops left Iraq as the administration touted the beginning of the end of the Iraq war and a change in the role of the United States in that country. Considering the continued public frustration with the war effort and with the growing laundry list of broken promises, this was merely another one of those administration operations in political maneuvering and semantics in order to convince an increasingly war-weary public that the Iraq war is at last ending. However, military officials confirm that we are committed to intervention in that country for years to come, and our operations have in fact changed minimally, if really at all. After eight long draining years I have to wonder if our government even understands what it is to end a war anymore. The end of a war to most people means all the troops come home, out of harm's way. It means we stop killing people and getting killed. It means we stop sending troops and armed personnel over and draining our treasury for military operations in that foreign land. But much like the infamous "mission accomplished" moment of the last administration, this end of the war also means none of those things. 50000 US troops in Iraq, and they're still receiving combat pay. One soldier was killed in Basra just last Sunday, after the supposed end of combat operations, and the same day 5000 men and women of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Division at Fort Hood were ...
