The Ume River (Swedish: Umeälven) is one of the main rivers in northern Sweden. It is around 460 km long, and flows in a south-eastern direction from its source, the lake Överuman by the Norwegian border within the Scandinavian mountain range. For large parts, the European route E12, also known as Blå Vägen (Blue Route), follows its path. Ume River passes through the lake Struman. It has been extensively cultivated for water power. It drains into the Gulf of Bothnia on Sweden's east coast at the small town Holmsund, just adjacent to the city of Umeå. Its chief tributary is the Vindel River.

In the Arctic where the Sámi people live (an Indigenous people in northern Europe) -- the temperature has already risen by 1,5 degrees. If we don't manage to stop global warming and if climate change is allowed to continue, it will have cathastrophic effect on all of us. We are fighting for a future without mining and any more large-scale exploitation and short-term thinking. We are concerned for our children and for future generations.

This part shows how important this fields only 500 m from the night roost (shown in part 1) is for the weak population (5-7000 birds) of the Scandinivian Taiga Bean Goose. It is well worth to watch!
We publish this in order so that people can see what Swedish Environmental Courts and actually the Supreme Court accepted, inspite there was several alternatives that should harm nothing or much less. Note that the railway company (the governmental Banverket) got acceptance from the courts to compensate the expoitation in the same area they construct the railroad! Therefore we think it is important to publish this to the public. Also note that the Swedish EC Commissionaire Margot Wallstrom gave her blessing to this project in spite of that her personell at the Commission was ready to demand a better alternative route. Part 3 shows the large numbers of Taiga Bean Geese that are feeding exatly where the railway now is constructed, and where Banverket tries to compensate for this disturbance. How will the geese react? Soon we know. The sprin 2009 is the first when the "compensatory" measures are in place before the trains start to go. This is planned to be in 2010.

River
A river is a natural flowing watercourse, usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, sea, lake or another river. This is the third (and last) high quality video sequences showing the situation in the Natura 2000 site Ume River Delta (SE0810475) before the construction of a high speed rail road "Bothnian Link" (Botniabanan).
This part shows how important this fields only 500 m from the night roost (shown in part 1) is for the weak population (5-7000 birds) of the Scandinivian Taiga Bean Goose. It is well worth to watch!
We publish this in order so that people can see what Swedish Environmental Courts and actually the Supreme Court accepted, inspite there was several alternatives that should harm nothing or much less. Note that the railway company (the governmental Banverket) got acceptance from the courts to compensate the expoitation in the same area they construct the railroad! Therefore we think it is important to publish this to the public. Also note that the Swedish EC Commissionaire Margot Wallstrom gave her blessing to this project in spite of that her personell at the Commission was ready to demand a better alternative route. Cool girl.
