VK Malhotra seeks IOC's advice on IOA ban
With the International Olympic Committee's ban on the Indian Olympic Association entering the second month and with no signs of the humiliating suspension being lifted any time soon, acting president VK Malhotra has written to the international body asking for suggestions to get the ban lifted. This move comes after the IOA went ahead with elections on December 5, a day after IOC suspended it. For more log on to www.newsx.com

Swimming Men's 200m Freestyle Final - Agnel wins Gold - London 2012 Olympic Games Highlights
Swimming Men's 200m Freestyle Final - Gold: Yannick Agnel (France) - Silver: Taehwan Park (Korea) - Bronze: Yang Sun (China) Highlights from the Aquatics Centre at the London 2012 Olympic Games. -- 30 July 2012 Swimming has featured on the programme of all editions of the Games since 1896. The very first Olympic events were freestyle (crawl) or breaststroke. Backstroke was added in 1904. In the 1940s, breaststrokers discovered that they could go faster by bringing both arms forward over their heads. This practice was immediately forbidden in breaststroke, but gave birth to butterfly, whose first official appearance was at the 1956 Games in Melbourne. This style is now one of the four strokes used in competition. Women's swimming became Olympic in 1912 at the Stockholm Games. Since then, it has been part of every edition of the Games. The men's and women's programmes are almost identical, as they contain the same number of events, with only one difference: the freestyle distance is 800 metres for women and 1500 metres for men. Leaping high for gold - Yelena Isinbaeva - Russia - Athens 2004 Olympic Games
Yelena Isinbaeva started out as a gymnast in Volgograd until the age of 15. However, as she kept on growing, she moved into athletics which would prove to be a great choice. Arriving at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, Isinbaeva was already a world record holder and therefore a favourite; however she had placed third in the World Championships. Yelena Isinbaeva had already missed two attempts for 4.70 and 4.75 metres, leaving her in third place, with fellow Russian athlete Svetlana Feofanova leading. In a jump that could define a bronze or gold medal, she made her final attempt directly for 4.80m. This time, a perfect jump took Isinbaeva to the lead. Yelena Isinbaeva still came back to pass the 4.85m barrier and after that settle a new world record at 4.91m.

Boxing Men's Super Heavy (+91kg) Round of 16 Full Replay from the ExCeL - South Arena 2 at the London 2012 Olympic Games. -- 1 August 2012 Boxing made its Olympic debut at the 1904 Games in St Louis, since then boxing has been staged at each edition of the Games, except in 1912 in Stockholm, owing to Swedish law, which forbade the practice. The rules have evolved since the 1980s: 1984 in Los Angeles: protective helmet obligatory; 1992 in Barcelona: set-up of an electronic scoring system to strengthen the objectivity of refereeing; 2007: standardised point scoring. Women's boxing will make its debut at the 2012 London Games in London. Find more about Boxing at www.olympic.org/boxing

Team GB surprise and take gold - 4x100m Men's Relay - Athens 2004 Olympic Games
The 4x100 metres relay is a moment that drives high expectations for Olympics fans all around. And the Athens 2004 Olympic Games final lived up to those expectations. Team USA were the favourites for gold before the race, as a dominant force in this event historically and a strong team with Shawn Crawford, Justin Gatlin, Coby Miller and Maurice Greene as the anchor. However, during the race, Great Britain surprised the world with a technically near perfect team effort, with smooth baton transition. Timed at 38.07 seconds, Jason Gardener, Darren Campbell, Marlon Devonish and Mark Lewis-Francis beat the United States by 0.01 seconds to take the Olympic gold medal. Completing the podium, team Nigeria took the bronze medal.
