During the middle girth of this century, Adam Clayton Powell Jr. was the equivalent of the rap group Public Enemy, the protest politician Jesse Jackson, and the Congressional Black Caucus all in one. Like Public Enemy, Powell "dissed" white America for its racism and hypocrisy, with one of his clearest refrains being akin to "You Can't Trust 'Em." When he demanded changes in society, Powell, as Jackson would years later, commanded so much attention in Washington and with the media that he became known as "Mr. Civil Rights." And as the first African-American congressman from the northeast, and for decades the only militant African American on the Hill, Powell had the guts to push through laws that forced America to stop locking African Americans out of industries and institutions. He didn't behave like most African-American politicians. "I'm the first bad Negro they've had in Congress," he bragged. He made more enemies on Capitol Hill than perhaps any legislator before or since. He didn't behave like a typical African-American minister. "I believe only in the teaching of Jesus," he said, "I am not a full-Bible Christian." "NUMB" '93 (EBN) Emergency Broadcast Network Written by U2 Music: The Edge, Adam Clayton, Larry Mullen, Jr.; Lyrics: Bono "Numb" (The Edge) Single by U2 from the album Zooropa Released: June 1993 Mixed by Robbie Adams "Numb" is a song by rock band U2. It is the third track from their 1993 album Zooropa and was released in June 1993 as the album's first single. The song features a monotonous mantra of "don't" commands spoken by guitarist The Edge amidst a backdrop of various sound effects and samples. The noisy composition and lyrical concept for "Numb" were inspired by the theme of sensory overload, which had prominently been incorporated into the Zoo TV Tour. U2 lead vocalist Bono and drummer Larry Mullen, Jr. provided backing vocals on the track. "Numb" originated as a discarded song from the Achtung Baby recording sessions called "Down All the Days". While recording Zooropa, the band transformed the song with mixing assistance from co-producer Flood, the addition of keyboards and samples by co-producer Brian Eno, and the addition of The Edge's monotone vocals. The song was released as a VHS single, featuring a music video directed by Kevin Godley, but it did not attain widespread commercial success. U2 added "Numb" to their live setlists after resuming their Zoo TV Tour in May 1993. What's In Your Hand Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. On SGIBmagonTV/The GEE Spot
Believe it or not it's hard for me to post something on my website on my You Tube sight or anywhere and not have permission granted to do so I hope I am forgiven, but I was so struck by the message of Adam Clayton Powell Jr. on why you should vote that I cannot resist in sharing this just being one week away from the midterm elections of November 2, 2010. This was from a repeat broadcast by Gill Nobles of "Like It Is" that was originally aired in 1976. What makes this message so powerful is his description of the things that change history and in some cases the way we live today just by looking down and seeing what's in your hand. I hope this November we all use that power that we have and vote. It would be nice to know that the vote we cast will result in the winner we chose an if not don't give up and let's all still work together to make this the greatest country in the world. A new film combing animation with live action conceived and directed by Joshua Frankel, about the architecture of New York City blasting off into outer space and resettling on Mars. The film’s visuals are an animated collage combining live action footage, animated elements, illustrations and treated photographs, including photos taken by the Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity made available to the public domain by the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Plan of the City was created in collaboration with composer Judd Greenstein and NOW Ensemble, an acclaimed "indie classical" chamber ensemble; the ensemble, including Greenstein, feature prominently in the film as live actors set inside the animated framework.
The audio of the film consists solely of Greenstein's Change, performed by NOW Ensemble; Change and Plan of the City were created in parallel, each expressing its own artistic intention while simultaneously serving its "sibling".
The film was presented with the music performed live, timed to the film, at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City in May, 2011. It also exists as its own stand-alone entity, utilizing NOW Ensemble's recent studio recording of Change(out on New Amsterdam Records).

Terrify not your soul with vain imaginary fears. By realizing that you are the one feeding the fire, you can start to take control of your fears. Panic is a vicious cycle that can be broken. When you start to have irrational fears you need to take action quick. Eleanor Roosevelt once said: "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing, which you think you cannot do." We must stop running away from things that frighten us, face our fears head on, and do the thing we fear the most. Most of the time we'll find out that the "thing" was not that scary after all. And the most amazing thing is that we hold the power to control our minds - we allow fear to dominate our lives or we choose to dominate fear. Those are our only two choices.

There’s a mixture of hope and irony when they say “the times have changed” in Montgomery. Randall Bramblett's beautiful new CD The Meantime, marks a departure for the highly acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who is best known for his work with Steve Winwood, Traffic, Levon Helm, Sea Level, Gregg Allman, Bonnie Raitt, Widespread Panic and more. On his 8th solo album, Bramblett performs primarily on acoustic piano, organ, and lead vocals. The CD features 12 original tracks, including some of Bramblett’s earliest songs such as “Sacred Harmony,” “Witness For Love,” and “One More Rose” as well as newer, unreleased compositions.
