Trucks stranded at a snow covered road at Jawhar Tunnel 100 kms From Srinagar, India,  on 14, December 2012. Most parts of the Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar, received fresh snowfall, however, the snowfall has led to closure of the 294-km Jammu-Srinagar national highway, the only road link between Kashmir and rest of the country.

The Srinagar-Leh National Highway connecting Ladakh to the Kashmir Valley was re-opened to traffic after a six-month winter closure. The highway passes through the 3,510 meter-high Zojila pass which lies on the lower depressions of the Himalayan range.
