Yakutat Bay is a 29-km-wide (18 mi) bay in the U.S. state of Alaska, extending southwest from Disenchantment Bay to the Gulf of Alaska. "Yakutat" is a Tlingit name reported as "Jacootat" and "Yacootat" by Yuri Lisianski in 1805.
Yakutat Bay was the epicenter of two major earthquakes on September 10, 1899, a magnitude 7.4 foreshock and a magnitude 8.0 main shock, 37 minutes apart.
The Shelikhov-Golikov company, precursor of the Russian-American Company, under the management of Alexander Andreyevich Baranov, settled Yakutat Bay in 1795. It was known as New Russia, Yakutat Colony, or Slavorossiya.
Yakutat Bay has had various names.
Hubbard Glacier is a glacier located in eastern Alaska and part of Yukon, Canada, and named after Gardiner Hubbard.
The longest source for Hubbard Glacier originates 122 kilometres (76 mi) from its snout and is located at about 61°00′N 140°09′W / 61.000°N 140.150°W / 61.000; -140.150, approximately 8 kilometres (5 mi) west of Mount Walsh with an altitude around 11,000 feet (3,400 m). A shorter tributary glacier begins at the easternmost summit on the Mount Logan ridge at about 18,300 feet (5,600 m) at about 60°35′0″N 140°22′40″W / 60.58333°N 140.37778°W / 60.58333; -140.37778.
Before it reaches the sea, Hubbard is joined by the Valerie Glacier to the west, which, through forward surges of its own ice, has contributed to the advance of the ice flow that experts believe will eventually dam the Russell Fjord from Disenchantment Bay waters.
The Hubbard Glacier ice margin has continued to advance for about a century. In May 1986, the Hubbard Glacier surged forward, blocking the outlet of Russell Fjord and creating "Russell Lake." All that summer, the new lake filled with runoff; its water level rose 25 metres (82 ft), and the decrease in salinity threatened its sea life.

I took this video clip of Yakutat Bay and Hubbard Glacier from Holland America's Oosterdam on 23 September 2008. Hubbard Glacier, located on Alaska's Yakutat Bay in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve, is one of the world's fastest-moving glaciers. Hubbard Glacier is the longest tidewater glacier in the U.S., extending 76 miles from its source on Mt. Logan; and it is the second longest non-polar glacier in the world.

Hope everybody enjoys the national holiday this December 25th (if you live in a place where you get it off that is.) This is the first video I'm sharing of my "other" region. I intend to be making a lot more of them in the future. It has a lot in common with Prospect Bay, but should also be immediately distinct. This is where I plan to take my SC4 skills and commitment to realism to the next level.
Today's video continues in the same vein of my last upload, where I replaced the outmoded Pacific Northwest tree controller trees (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/28296-pacific-northwest-tree-controller/) in Lakewood with the Cascadia tree controller set I've already switched to in newer parts of the region (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/29275-cascadia-tree-controller/). In not too long, the entire region will be using the newer trees. Again, it's not so much a numbered entry in the "official" Yakutat Bay video series so much as a recorded chill sesh where I show you guys a part of the project that's currently dominating the time I spend working on the region. Hi there! I'm excited to bring today's Yakutat Bay episode to you, the first numbered episode in a while, and a veritable miniseries at that. I've been planning the city of Kings Cross in the southeasternmost corner of Yakutat Bay for a while. My intention is to build an attractive gateway city about the same size as Joinville at what will one day become the main route into the region toward its major cities from the exterior. Unlike the heavy industry focused city of Joinville, the goal for Kings Cross is to create a multifaceted economy based on a mix of roadside services, logistics, and shore tourism with plenty of rental homes in picturesque settings by the beach, in addition to the regional economic mainstays like intensive agriculture, retail and light industry. The city will be div...
I'm trying out something a little bit different today and just making a chill recording of the kind of thing I've been spending most of my time with SC4 doing lately. I wasn't quite ready to create another numbered entry in the Yakutat Bay series but I really wanted to bring you guys something new from the region. You might remember that a while back I switched Yakutat Bay from using the Pacific Northwest tree controller (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/28296-pacific-northwest-tree-controller/) and Tarkus' Wasco terrain mod (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=3777.msg146912#msg146912) to the Cascadia tree controller (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/29275-cascadia-tree-controller/) and the Sudden Valley terrain mod (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filed...

This video's a bit of a different type from the two previous. The focus is on building a narrow and winding new highway through a mountain pass in order to connect the Joinville-Skookumville area with the yet undeveloped northern plain of the region. I already completed about five miles of the highway through the central-northern part of the pass, so today is about completing the missing 3-4 mile segment of highway between there and the railroad near Skookumville.

This video depicts a 3-day, 53-mile hike across Kodiak Island from the village of Old Harbor to the village of Larsen Bay. The route followed the river draining into Barling Bay to its headwaters, then I climbed over the spine of Kodiak to the river draining into the head of Uyak Bay, and then I used the mountains on the western edge of Uyak Bay to traverse to the end point in Larsen Bay. I saw relatively few bears as they were mostly down along the creeks feeding on salmon and I stayed high whenever possible, but the deer and goats were represented in abundance. The only downside of this trip was the atrocious brush conditions I encountered after a mild winter and early spring.
