Climbing Devil's Tower - The Summit - VIO POV1 Helmet Cam
Climbing Devil's Tower (The Durance Route) on September 28th 2008 with a helmet cam. It took 4.5 hours for 4 of us to summit the tower so I condensed it into 10 minutes. Enjoy! We drove from Toronto, Canada and it took 24 hours straight. We drove a Winnebago and took 4-6 hour shifts, stopped at Mount Rushmore for a visit and continued to the tower. We arrived at 5pm Friday, practice climbed on Saturday and summated on Sunday. It was a fantastic climbing holiday with my friends. Dole Air Race (1927)
(Silent, B&W) Death Dogged the Dolebirds: Pioneer Pacific Fliers Wrote Tragic Chapter in Air History". San Francisco Call-Bulletin www.sfmuseum.net The Dole Air Race was an air race to cross the Pacific Ocean from the coast of northern California to the Territory of Hawai'i. Inspired by Charles A. Lindbergh's successful trans-Atlantic flight, James D. Dole, the Hawaii pineapple magnate, put up a prize of US$25000 for the first fixed-wing aircraft to fly the 3870 kilometers (2400 miles) from Oakland, California to Honolulu, Hawaii, and US$10000 for second place. The race began on 16 August 1927. The fifteen competitors were seen off by a crowd estimated to include 75000 to 100000 persons. However, the honor of being the first to make a trans-Pacific flight had already been earned, twice over. On 28 June, about a month after Dole posted the prizes, United States Army Lieutenants Lester J. Maitland and Albert F. Hegenberger flew a three-engine Fokker military aircraft from Oakland Airport to Wheeler Army Airfield on Oahu in 25 hours and 50 minutes. Then, on 14 July, Ernie Smith and Emory Bronte, took off from Oakland in the City of Oakland, a small civilian monoplane, and, upon running out of fuel 26 hours and 36 minutes later, crash-landed in a thorn tree on Molokai. Dole disqualified both of them from his prizes because they did not land in Honolulu. The drawing for starting position in the Dole race was held on 8 August in the office of CW Saunders, California director of ...

The Adventures of Frank Merriwell: 12 Chapter Cliffhanger Serial - TRAILER
Based on the turn-of-the-century dime store novels of Bert L. Standish (real name: William Patton Gilbert), this slow-moving serial featured husky Donald Briggs in the title role, a Fardale College star athlete who inherits a valuable ring from his father (William P. Carleton). By deciphering an inscription on the ring, Merriwell and his Hollywood friends (played by second generation actors such as House Peters, Jr., Wallace Reid, Jr., Allan Hersholt, and Carlyle Blackwell, Jr.) discover a hidden treasure of gold nuggets worth $30000. There is opposition from a gang of cutthroats, of course, but Merriwell still manages to win the Big Game for his college. Lending much needed feminine appeal to the proceedings is Jean Rogers, who that same year would skyrocket to fame as Dale Arden in the Flash Gordon serial.
