De Kirchner letter calls for return of Falklands
The President of Argentina, Cristiuna Fernandez de Kirchner, has written an open letter to David Cameron calling for an end to British "colonialism" and that the Falklands Islands be returned. Published in The Guardian and other newspapers President Fernandez quotes the UN's 1960 proclamation of, "bringing to an end colonialism in all its forms and manifestations". Ms Kirchner had previously made calls for the return of the islands, known in Argentina as Malvinas, during last year's 30th anniversary of the Falklands War between the two countries. In response a Downing Street spokesperson said that the people of the Falklands had shown "a clear desire to remain British" and the Argentine government should respect their right to self-determination. A spokesperson for the government of the Falklands Islands also noted, "We are not a colony - our relationship with the United Kingdom is by choice". A referendum on the islands' political status is to be held in March. Written and presented by Alfred Joyner

Argentina buys up US dollars
Argentina's government has placed a virtual ban on purchases of foreign currency and is trying to buy every US dollar available as it bids to increase central bank reserves and repay government debt. President Christina Kirchner wants Argentinians to start saving in the country's peso currency. Those measures have forced thousands to the streets to protest against what they call the government's authoritarian ways. The country has one of the highest inflation rates in the world and many Argentinians would gladly trade their pesos for the more stable US dollar. This has led to the creation of a black market where it is possible for thousands to buy and sell dollars, escaping the government's control. Al Jazeera's Teresa Bo reports from Buenos Aires.

Argentines flood the streets to protest against President Cristina Fernandez
Brandishing banners and banging on pots and pans thousands of Argentines took to streets of Buenos Aires to protest against President Cristina Fernandez's interventionist policies and combative style. An estimated 700000 people gathered around the city's landmark obelisk and other main avenues to march towards the Casa Rosada, the Argentine seat of government. High crime, inflation of roughly 25 per cent a year, and a possible bid by government allies to reform the constitution to allow Ms Fernandez to run for a third term are also stoking unrest, particularly among middle-class Argentines. Her government has virtually banned dollar purchases and it limited imports this year, worsening a steep economic slowdown. Protesters in neighbourhoods throughout Buenos Aires waved signs demanding freedom, transparency and an end to crime and corruption. The event, known in Argentina as 8N, for the 8th of November, was planned months in advance and was heavily advertised in social media networks. Ushuaia and surroundings Argentina
Ushuaia is the capital of Provincia de Tierra del Fuego, Antártida e Islas del Atlántico Sur Province, Argentina. It is commonly regarded as the southernmost city in the world (a title long disputed by smaller Puerto Williams). Ushuaia is located in a wide bay on the southern coast of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, bounded on the north by the Martial mountain range and on the south by the Beagle Channel. It is the only municipality in the Department of Ushuaia, which has an area of 9390 km2. During the first half of the 20th century, the city centered around a prison - now a museum; see the presentation - built by the Argentine government to increase the Argentine population here and to ensure Argentine sovereignty over Tierra del Fuego. The prison was intended for repeat offenders and serious criminals, following the example of the British in Tasmania and the French in Devil's Island. Escape from Tierra del Fuego was similarly difficult, although two prisoners managed to escape into the surrounding area for a few weeks. The prison population thus became forced colonists and spent much of their time building the town with timber from the forest around the prison.

Argentina economists face legal charges
The Argentine government is cracking down on economists who are speaking out about the country's inflation rate, by taking them to court. The government claims they are damaging the country by saying prices are rising as much as 25 per cent per year - one of the highest in the world. The opposition says Cristina Kirchner's government is hiding Argentina's problem and trying to silence those who disagree. Al Jazeera's Teresa Bo reports from Buenos Aires.

UK's new message to Argentina over Malvinas
In challenge to Argentina, Executive Council of Malvinas Islands has confirmed the referendum call for March 2013 allowing islanders to vote on their political status and ratify their decision to remain British. According to official information, UK´s Electoral Commission will assist and provide guidance in the voting process "with developing the form of the question and the wording". When referendum plans were first announced in June this year, Buenos Aires considered the move "absurd" and "groundless". Based on UN resolutions that demand both parties involved to sit at the negotiating table, Argentine government has repeatedly warned that the population of the disputed territories has been implanted by the UK, thus rejecting British self-determination pledge.
