STRANGE DAYS : LS:N Global Trend Briefing Spring/Summer 2013
'Here at The Future Laboratory, we've been considering where these strange times will take us, and what this will all mean for you and for your brand,' says The Future Laboratory's co-founder Chris Sanderson. 'As we will show in our most radical trend briefing to date, this switch from the heavy to the light, the tangible to the invisible, the physical to the metaphysical, is far more profound than most of us truly understand.' @Google: Eric Isaacs, Director of Argonne National Laboratory
"Gamechangers: Energy Science, Innovation, and the Future of America." In the National Laboratory system, we are working on new energy technologies that could transform the ways we generate, store and use energy, and that could protect our environment while recharging our national economy. But as we tackle the fundamental scientific research we need to discover and develop disruptive new energy technologies, it's worthwhile to ask: What does it really mean to change the game? What does game-changing technology look like, and what are currently our best prospects for gamechangers? Ultimately, can we really change the energy game in this country? I believe the answer is yes -- but only if we bring together the right people and give them the right tools to address the right questions. --Eric D. Isaacs Bio: Eric D. Isaacs, a prominent University of Chicago physicist, is President of UChicago Argonne, LLC, and Director of Argonne National Laboratory. Before becoming Argonne Director, Isaacs served as Argonne's deputy laboratory director for programs, with responsibility for leading the laboratory's strategic planning process and overseeing the laboratory-directed research and development program as well as its educational programs. Earlier he distinguished himself both as director of the Center for Nanoscale Materials at Argonne and as professor of physics in the University of Chicago's James Franck Institute. During his 13-year tenure at Bell Laboratories, he was a member of ...

The Racing Lab 918 RSR Revealed
With the 911 GT3 R Hybrid, the future of motorsports began in 2010. After several races we could well say: mission accomplished. But that's not enough for us. Our most important finding: Hybrid can do more. The Racing Lab 918 RSR gives you an idea about this "more". For further information, click on www.porsche.com

Precision Information Environments Envisioning the future of emergency management
Researchers at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory are developing future work environments for the emergency management community called Precision Information Environments (or PIEs). PIEs will provide tailored access to information and decision support capabilities in a system that supports the multiple user roles, contexts, and phases of emergency management, planning, and response. Take a look at one vision for the future, then visit us at precisioninformation.org to view an annotated version that describes each of the technology concepts youll see as well as the end user needs that motivated them and the research challenges that must be addressed to make them a reality.

Heimtextil - Trends - RECONNECT 2011/12
In the 21st century, people want to be amazed, carried away and overwhelmed by ideas, sentiments and philosophies. They have a strong need to concern themselves with values, live in harmony with nature and be extremely authentic. A feel for the handcrafted reflects this just as much as the need to limit consumption voluntarily. In their show featuring the 2011/2012 Heimtextil Trend Reconnect in Frank-furt am Main, Caroline Till and Kate Franklin from British style agency, The Future Laboratory, demonstrate the effect this attitude towards life has on interior decorating trends and themes. The four Reconnect directions refer back to nature and roots in Sobriety, to culture, identity and tradition in Mix Mash. Utility recommits to real values and the art of craftsmanship and Wilderness to the essential, functional and everyday.

AERO-TV: Redbird Skyport Grand Opening - Recrafting the Future of Flight Training
Redbird's 'Aero-Lab' Could Be The Focus Of A Major GA Flight Training Revolution The Redbird Skyport's 'birthday' of November 8th, 2011 may be a date to remember... for the first time in a LONG time, aviation industry luminaries gathered together to celebrate the start of something "REALLY DIFFERENT." A multi-faceted aviation research and development laboratory, located in San Marcos, TX, the Redbird Skyport is the culmination of the efforts of Redbird Flight Simulations and King Schools and is supported by a growing number of industry partners. Skyport is designed to be the first step in developing solutions to the challenges of a shrinking pilot population, staggering student drop-out rate and the ever increasing cost of flight training. The innovative aviation laboratory will include a full service FBO, flight school, and aviation experience center. All aspects of the project will provide a test bed for innovative hardware, software, business processes and ideas with the goal of revitalizing general aviation. Skyport will be an open laboratory where new ideas are fostered and innovative solutions are tested. "We have committed to building an R&D; facility in the form of a working, for profit, flight school at an airport in San Marcos,Texas. The work product of that institution will be available to and benefit everyone in the industry and we, and our development partners, are looking forward with great anticipation to its opening in the fall of 2011. As a step toward ...

Opera Stars Robot Performers
Later this month, the Opera of the Future Group at the MIT Media Lab will premiere Death and the Powers, an opera more than 10 years in the making. Featuring life-sized singing robots and a musical chandelier, the opera could redefine how technology can enhance live performance and help reestablish opera's spirit of innovation. Created by composer and MIT Media Lab Professor Tod Machover, the one-act opera will premiere Sept. 24-26 in Monaco (the city-state's ruler, Prince Albert II, is the honorary patron of the project and will attend the gala opening). More than 60 students and collaborators are traveling with Machover to help stage the complex production. Read the full story at: www.laboratoryequipment.com Source: MIT
