Vermeer's Masterpiece The Milkmaid: Discreet Object of Desire
Learn more about the exhibition "Vermeer's Masterpiece: The Milkmaid," on view at the Met September 10 - November 29, 2009: www.metmuseum.org Walter Liedtke, Curator, Department of European Paintings, The Metropolitan Museum of Art Metropolitan Museum curator Walter Liedke presents Vermeer's masterpiece The Milkmaid. The superb picture is on view in the exhibition of the same name, alongside the Met's five other paintings by Vermeer and a select group of works by other Dutch artists that place the work in its historical context. The details of the composition and subject matter of The Milkmaid and other paintings are explored in this lecture. On the occasion of the four hundredth anniversary of Henry Hudson's historic voyage to Manhattan from Amsterdam, the Rijksmuseum has sent "The Milkmaid," perhaps the most admired painting by Johannes Vermeer (1632 - 1675), to the Metropolitan Museum. To celebrate this extraordinary loan, the Met presents "Vermeer's Masterpiece: The Milkmaid," a special exhibition that brings together all five paintings by Vermeer from its collection, along with a select group of works by other Dutch artists, placing Vermeer's superb picture in its historical context. Along with "The Milkmaid," important works by Pieter de Hooch, Gabriël Metsu, Nicolaes Maes, Emanuel de Witte, and Gerard ter Borch are on view. All were masters who, like Vermeer, were active during the remarkable period of exploration, trade, and artistic flowering that occurred during ...

For example, the low-flow side would generally be suitable for a grapple attachment, while a trencher would benefit from the high-flow side . Feature: Pilot control ground drive Benefit: The pilot-operated ground drive control offers a smooth range of motion with minimal operator effort. The handgrip enables the operator to maintain a secure grip while providing good joystick control. Feature: Hydraulic flow Benefit: To efficiently power demanding attachments, such as a trencher, the S800TX offers exceptional hydraulic flow. Feature: Operator's console cushions Benefit: The cushions increase operator comfort, particularly while working in uneven terrain. Feature: Footprint Benefit: At just 40.5'(103 cm) wide, the S800TX offers a narrower footprint than competitive models with similar horsepower and operating capacity ratings. 8 year old Sophia's How To Draw JOHANNES VERMEER'S GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING
8 year old Sophia recreates by Johannes Vermeer's masterpiece, Girl With A Pearl Earring. "The painting Girl with a Pearl Earring (Dutch: Het Meisje met de Parel) is one of Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer's masterworks and as the name implies, uses a pearl earring for a focal point. Today the painting is kept in the Mauritshuis gallery in The Hague. It is sometimes referred to as "the Mona Lisa of the North" or "the Dutch Mona Lisa". In general, very little is known about Vermeer and his works. This painting is signed "IVMeer" but not dated. It is unclear whether this work was commissioned, and if so, by whom. In any case, it is probably not meant as a conventional portrait. More recent Vermeer literature points to the image being a tronie, the Dutch 17th-century description of a 'head' that was not meant to be a portrait. After the most recent restoration of the painting in 1994, the subtle colour scheme and the intimacy of the girl's gaze toward the viewer have been greatly enhanced. During the restoration, it was discovered that dark background, today somewhat mottled, was initially intended by the painter to be a deep enamel-like green. This effect was produced by applying a thick transparent layer of paint, called a glaze, over the present-day black ground. However, the two organic pigments of the green glaze, indigo and weld, have faded. On the advice of Victor de Stuers, who for years tried to prevent Vermeer's rare works from being sold to parties abroad, AA des ...

Van Meegeren's Fake Vermeers
More video's about art to be seen at: arttube.boijmans.nl In 1937, Dirk Hannema, the director of Boymans Museum, the later Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, purchased a newly discovered work by the seventeenth-century master Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675). The painting, entitled The Supper at Emmaus, was praised throughout the world of Dutch art history. The person who discovered this painting, the renowned art historian Abraham Bredius, even called the painting Vermeer's supreme masterpiece. After the war, it turned out the the The Supper at Emmaus was not from the hand of Vermeer, but from that of Han van Meegeren (1889-1947). This twentieth-century artist was arrested on suspicion of collaboration, because he had sold a painting to the German Chancellor Hermann Goering. In order to avoid punishment, Van Meegeren confessed that he himself had painted the canvas, Christ and the adulterous woman and several other 'Vermeers', including the famous Supper at Emmaus. During his trial, Han van Meegeren was able to present himself in such a way that he did not go down in history as a 'swindler', but rather as the misunderstood artist who had deceived the elite 'art experts' of the Netherlands. The exhibition on this subject is on show from May 12- August 20 2010 in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
