The Ring of Fire P1
The Pacific Ring of Fire (or sometimes just the Ring of Fire) is an area where large numbers of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the Pacific Ocean. In a 40000 km (25000 mi) horseshoe shape, it is associated with a nearly continuous series of oceanic trenches, volcanic arcs, and volcanic belts and/or plate movements. The Ring of Fire has 452 volcanoes and is home to over 75% of the world's active and dormant volcanoes. It is sometimes called the circum-Pacific belt or the circum-Pacific seismic belt. Eruption of Mount St. Helens on July 22, 1980.About 90% of the world's earthquakes and 80% of the world's largest earthquakes occur along the Ring of Fire. The next most seismic region (56% of earthquakes and 17% of the world's largest earthquakes) is the Alpide belt, which extends from Java to Sumatra through the Himalayas, the Mediterranean, and out into the Atlantic. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge is the third most prominent earthquake belt. The Ring of Fire is a direct result of plate tectonics and the movement and collisions of crustal plates. The eastern section of the ring is the result of the Nazca Plate and the Cocos Plate being subducted beneath the westward moving South American Plate. The Cocos Plate is being subducted beneath the Caribbean Plate, in Central America. A portion of the Pacific Plate along with the small Juan de Fuca Plate are being subducted beneath the North American Plate. Along the northern portion the northwestward moving Pacific ...

"Cycling the Pacific Ring of Fire part 3...Full Circle!" teaser
"Cycling the Pacific Ring of Fire", "volcano-hopping" by mountain bike around the globe's largest ocean is an expedition of epic proportions undertaken by Canadian adventurers Janick Lemieux and Pierre Bouchard. "Cycling the Pacific Ring of Fire part 3...Full Circle!" is a multimedia documentary presentation of the adventures they've endured during the third and final leg of the mega MTB-trek. This time, the couple spent some 27 months in the saddle and rode 24000 kilometres between Jakarta and Vancouver...via hundreds of volcanoes scattered throughout archipelagos of Indonesia and the Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, Russia's Far East, Alaska, Western Canada, and Hawaii. Over 1000 stunning images, video excerpts, and animated maps portray their fabulous journey as the adventurers provide witty and insightful commentary and observations, intertwined with melodies and rhythms of Montreal composer Martin Tremblay. This highly volatile, explosive and "subversive" cocktail of culture, nature and adventure will enthral you! Until they stop over in your area, here's a little glimpse... Geologist NW US predictions: "Seismic Window" in Pacific Ring of Fire & Earthquake Fish (in SoCal)
Geologist Jim Berkland gives us background information on familiar anomalies (spatial and earth) that clue us to upcoming earthquakes. Berkland was famous for predicting the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake in San Francisco (also known as the Quake of '89 and the World Series Earthquake). Jim Berkland: "Seismic Window" (Highest Tidal Force): 19 - 26 Mar 2011, then next closest approach of the moon will be in 2016.
