Ofsted Outstanding Year 5 Literacy Lesson Observation
In this lesson the class look at forming complex sentences in their writing. This follows on from the work done on visual literacy and the focus has been on story writing. They are now at the point where they are working on the climax and resolution of their stories, and by using complex sentences they aim to improve the quality of their writing and make it more interesting to the reader. This is a short extract from the video. The full observation video is available from www.classroomobservation.co.uk

How To Deal With An Ofsted Inspection
I originally wrote some of the words of this song in the days when schools were visited by real inspectors - HMIs - and the fellow who came to check out my lessons was kind enough to publish them in a newsletter he sent out monthly to the schools in his area. Being inspected by him was a privilege. He took care to put teachers at their ease, was always warm and considerate in his manner, and the advice he gave was always positive and genuinely useful. No-one ever made more friends among teachers, and I am just one of many with whom he still keeps in touch, though we are both retired now. This song is for you, David, with heartfelt thanks for all your good advice and friendship. Near the end of my career, I updated some aspects of the song in order to reflect a few of the changes that had taken place in schools, not least in the way they were inspected. I experienced three full Ofsted inspections, all of which were highly successful, yet almost completely worthless, wasting vast amounts of time and money to tell us what everybody already knew, and causing huge and unnecessary stress in the process. The contrast with the way in which things used to be done could not have been greater. In writing this song, I was, of course, inspired by Henry Hall's 1932 recording of "The Teddy Bears' Picnic" which was originally written by John Walter Bratton in 1907 and to whom I am indebted for the tune. If you come down to my class today, You're sure of a big surprise. If you come down ...

STRUGGLING CAFCASS TEAM - YORKSHIRE & HUMBERSIDE OFSTED INSPECTION AUGUST 2009 **FUNNY VIDEO**
Chief admits managers should have kept closer eye on 'inadequate' North Yorkshire and Humberside service Cafcass chief Anthony Douglas has admitted that he and other senior managers should have kept a closer eye on its North Yorkshire and Humberside service, which has been rated as inadequate by Ofsted inspectors. Douglas said he had "taken for granted" the family court body's service in the area because it had hit key performance indicators and had underspent its budget in previous years. OFSTED REPORT REFERENCE docs.google.com "While we had bigger overt problems to deal with elsewhere in the country we took our eye off this area and assumed it was OK," he said.
