Torngat Mountains National Park

In August 2008 Wildland Tours chartered the expedition vessel Wanderbird for a second exploration of the Torngat National Park including the Parks Canada basecamp in Saglek Fjord. The polar bear monitor and guide for the trip was Inuit elder and carver, John Terriak who led a group of 12 guests and Wildland Tours president David Snow as they explored the mountains behind the Moravian Mission Station at Hebron. The group also wandered the abandoned communities at Ramah and Okak looking for wildlife and enjoying the arctic history of the region. These photos by David Snow feature the sites visited. Look for the small glaciers of northern Labrador (Nunatsiavut) together with some of the polar bears, caribou, seals, whales, icebergs, and black bears which the group encountered. The captains and crew of the Wanderbird also deserve great credit for so skillfully hosting this unique Wildland Tours expedition.
