Lewis Gilbert's SHIRLEY VALENTINE (1989) movie trailer
After "Educating Rita" (1983), Lewis Gilbert adapted another play by Willy Russell. Like Gilbert's "Alfie" (1966), "Shirley Valentine" (1989) is also in a habit of talking to the camera on a very scarcastic tone. Pauline Collins is irresistible, but the play seems to have lost some of its acid humour when brought to the screen. Nice little film anyway. Johana Lumley makes a very brief appearance and don't expect to see Tom Conti during the first hour of the film. more info on www.imdb.com

Alfie (Caine) is a charming, rogueish Cockney who cannot get his fill of women. He uses them without shame or malice, jumping from one promiscuous female's bed to another without much thought or feeling. Of course, Alfie's not as carefree as he would have the audience -- to whom he often speaks directly -- think: he treats his pregnant, common-law wife, Gilda (Julia Foster), quite shabbily, and has an affair with a married woman (Vivien Merchant) that leaves her pregnant, for which Alfie arranges an abortion. In the end, Alfie never finds lasting meaning or pleasure but remains an unrepentant, if low-class, Don Juan. Caine was Oscar-nominated for his performance. alfie,"alfie clip","alfie lily allen","alfie boe","alfie trailer","alfie boe bring him home","alfie patten","alfie lily allen lyrics","alfie kohn","alfie soundtrack","alfie dionne warwick","michael caine","millicent martin","car videos",comedy, drama,"john gilbert","lewis gilbert ...

The Ten Year Plan (1945) - extract
At the end of WWII, the need to replace housing that had been damaged or destroyed in air raids was so acute that prefabricated houses - known as 'prefabs' - were investigated as a short-term alternative. The post-war housing minister, Nye Bevan, dismissed them as "rabbit hutches" but, curiously, the prefab came to be one of the most popular forms of council housing because of its size, its garden and the privacy it afforded. Directed by the prolific British director Lewis Gilbert ('Alfie', 'Educating Rita') early in his career, 'The Ten Year Plan' stars 'Carry On' actor Charles Hawtrey as a louche young writer sent to report on a range of prefabs, discovering with some surprise that many of them look like "real" houses. Hopkins vs. Baptist, Part 1
Part 1 of 6. Bernard was 28, despite what their tale of the tape says. Archie Moore was there to support Gilbert, and Michael Spinks was there to support Bernard. Spinks and Bernard were both promoted by Butch Lewis. Gilbert had a good chin, because Bernard smacked him with plenty left hooks throughout.
