Jamie Woon

Jamie Woon (born 29 March 1983) is a British singer, songwriter and producer signed to PMR who gained widespread acclaim in 2010 for his single, "Night Air", which was co-produced by Burial, following his previous independent release, "Wayfaring Stranger" EP.

Biography

The Eurasian son of a Malaysian Chinese father, and Scottish mother (Celtic singer Mae McKenna who also has Irish ancestry), he was born and raised in New Malden in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, Greater London, before his parents divorced. He was educated at Sacred Heart RC Primary School (New Malden), S.T Catherines RC Middle School (Raynes Park) & Wimbledon College (Wimbledon). He later attended the BRIT School, where he graduated the year behind Amy Winehouse, whom he later supported live.

Woon's sound and style is described as soul inflected vocals backed by samplers and programming, or a single guitar track. He describes his music as "... R&B, it's groove-based vocal-led music ..."

On 4 January 2011, the BBC announced that Woon had been placed fourth in the BBC's Sound of 2011 poll.

Carbis

Carbis is a hamlet 0.9 miles (1.4 km) east of Roche in Cornwall, England. Carbis lies at about 495 feet (151 m) above sea level.

Rosemellyn China Clay works lies 0.4 miles (0.64 km) north-east of Carbis. In the 19th century the mining of china clay was an important industry around St Austell indeed the area has the nick-name of the "china clay country". The Rosemellyn China Clay company went into liquidation in 1918. A short railway branch line (now dismantled) ran from Carbis Wharf to the sidings at nearby Bugle as part of the Cornwall Minerals Railway.

And I

"And I" is a song written by American R&B singer Ciara, and produced by Adonis Shropshire for Ciara's first album, Goodies (2004). It was released as the album's fourth and final single on August 30, 2005 (see 2005 in music) in North America.

The song was originally the third choice for the fourth single. Ciara has mentioned in an interview that "Thug Style", "Hotline" or "Pick up the Phone" would be the fourth single, but when Ciara suggested "And I" to executives at her previous record label LaFace, they were unhappy because they wanted "Next to You" to be the fourth single.

Chart performance

At the time of the U.S. release of "And I", Ciara's collaboration with Bow Wow, "Like You", and her collaboration with Missy Elliott, "Lose Control", were at the height of their popularity. "And I" peaked at 96 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and 27 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart, which were poor positions compared to those attained by the first three singles from the album Goodies. It was not released outside North America because of this, and it is Ciara's least successful single.
