Father Vincent on Religious Habits and Superhero Capes
www.catholic.com The lighter side of Catholic Answers Live. Enjoy! Born in Hayward CA, a suburb of San Francisco, Fr. Vincent Serpa, attended Bishop O'Dowd High School, the University of San Francisco and entered the Dominican Novitiate for the US western province of the Dominican Order. Ordained in 1968, he spent three years doing radio work in San Francisco while still in school. Since then he has served in Dominican parishes in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Portland, OR. From 1992 to 2000 he served as novice master in Oakland, CA. In September of that year he joined the staff at Catholic Answers as chaplain and staff apologist. He particularly enjoys answering questions on the "Ask An Apologist" forum and producing his weekday "Catholic Answers Minute." Catholic Answers is one of the nation's largest lay-run apostolates of Catholic apologetics and evangelization. Its mission statement explains its purpose: Catholic Answers is an apostolate dedicated to serving Christ by bringing the fullness of Catholic truth to the world. We help good Catholics become better Catholics, bring former Catholics "home," and lead non-Catholics into the fullness of the faith.

Faustina - St. Faustina Kowalska /biographical, drama, religious/
Saint Faustina was born Helena Kowalska in a small village west of Lodz, Poland on August 25, 1905. She was the third of ten children. When she was almost twenty, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy, whose members devote themselves to the care and education of troubled young women. The following year she received her religious habit and was given the name Sister Maria Faustina, to which she added, "of the Most Blessed Sacrament", as was permitted by her congregation's custom. In the 1930's, Sister Faustina received from the Lord a message of mercy that she was told to spread throughout the world. She was asked to become the apostle and secretary of God's mercy, a model of how to be merciful to others, and an instrument for reemphasizing God's plan of mercy for the world. It was not a glamorous prospect. Her entire life, in imitation of Christ's, was to be a sacrifice - a life lived for others. At the Divine Lord's request, she willingly offered her personal sufferings in union with Him to atone for the sins of others; in her daily life she was to become a doer of mercy, bringing joy and peace to others, and by writing about God's mercy, she was to encourage others to trust in Him and thus prepare the world for His coming again. Her special devotion to Mary Immaculate and to the sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation gave her the strength to bear all her sufferings as an offering to God on behalf of the Church and those in special need ...

"Dirty Habit" movie trailer
An award-winning independent feature about a crack-addicted prostitute and a nun who get stuck on an elevator. One is going to, one is coming from, a meeting with a killer. In a seedy hotel, battered prostitute Leslie (Kirsty Hinchcliffe) flees the scene of a crime only to get trapped on the elevator with young Sister Amelia (Reagan Dale Neis). When no one responds to their cries for help, they reluctantly turn to each other. Leslie starts smoking crack and goes from standoffish, to giddy, to ferociously hostile at the drop of a hat. The unlucky sister learns more than she wants about the violent crime Leslie has just perpetrated. Tensions mount as Leslie pries into Sister Amelia's private affairs and they discover a shared secret that binds them together in a macabre and surreal plot involving a talking handbag and a Catholic bishop (Sam Anderson). It's a dark, hallucinatory ride with powerful performances and supernatural thrills that goes straight to the heart of a girl on her way to Hell.
