Ajloun
Ajloun also written Ajlun (Arabic: عجلون‎, ‘Ajlūn) is the capital town of the Ajloun Governorate . A hilly town in the north of Jordan, located 76 kilometers (around 47 miles) north west of Amman. It is noted for its impressive ruins the 12th century castle which known nowadays as Ajlun Castle. The Ajlun Governorate has a population of over 142000 widespread in twenty seven villages and towns and area about 420 km². The population of Ajlun Governorate is mainly composed of the following tribes:Al-Share, Al-Zghoul , Al-Qudah, Al-Momani , Al-smadi , Al-Shwayyat, Al-Freihat , Al-Khatatbah , and others. Haddad Owais and Rabadi are the main Christian tribes in Ajloun. although Christians are a minority in the governorate they form about the half of the population in Ajloun-City ,most of Christians resides in Ajloun-City along with Muslims of Al-smadi tribe, other tribes are distributed in the other districts of the governorate . Ajloun Governorate has four seats in the national parliament one of which is dedicated for the Christian minority.

Ajlun Governorate (alternative spelling Ajloun Governorate) (Arabic: محافظة عجلون‎) is one of the governorates of Jordan, located north of Amman the capital of Jordan. Ajlun Governorate has the fourth highest population density in the kingdom of Jordan (after Irbid, Jerash, and Balqa Governorates) with a population density of 335 ppkm² (2010 estimate). It is bordered by Jerash Governorate from the south east and Irbid Governorate from the north and west.

At a high elevation, Ajlun has one of the most beautiful forests in Jordan, and known for its long cold winters. It is famous for its castle (Ajlun Castle), old name was Qal'at Salah Ad-Dein. The precursor to modern Jordan was founded in 1921 as the Hashemite Emirate, and it was recognized by the League of Nations as a state under the British mandate in 1922 known as The Emirate of Transjordan. In 1946, Jordan became an independent sovereign state officially known as the Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan. After capturing the West Bank area of Cisjordan during the 1948–49 war with Israel, Abdullah I took the title King of Jordan and Palestine, and he officially changed the country's name to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in April 1949.

Tell Mar Elias
Tell Mar Elias is a hill (Tell) in the Ajlun region of North Jordan. The site, northwest of Ajlun, has long been identified with Tishbe, mentioned in the Bible as the hometown or region of the Prophet Elijah (Elias, in Arabic).
The remains of one of the largest known Byzantine churches in Jordan can also be found at the site. Artifacts from this site including marble carvings and small metal religious objects are on display at the Ajloun Castle Museum.

As such, Saladin is a prominent figure in Kurdish, Arab, and Muslim culture. Saladin was a strict adherent of Sunni Islam. His noble and chivalrous behavior was noted by Christian chroniclers, especially in the accounts of the Siege of Kerak, and despite being the nemesis of the Crusaders, he won the respect of many of them, including Richard the Lionheart; rather than becoming a hated figure in Europe, he became a celebrated example of the principles of chivalry.

Ajloun also written Ajlun (Arabic: عجلون‎, ‘Ajlūn) is the capital town of the Ajloun Governorate . A hilly town in the north of Jordan, located 76 kilometers (around 47 miles) north west of Amman. It is noted for its impressive ruins the 12th century castle which known nowadays as Ajlun Castle. The Ajlun Governorate has a population of over 142000 widespread in twenty seven villages and towns and area about 420 km². The population of Ajlun Governorate is mainly composed of the following tribes:Al-Share, Al-Zghoul , Al-Qudah, Al-Momani , Al-smadi , Al-Shwayyat, Al-Freihat , Al-Khatatbah , and others. Haddad Owais and Rabadi are the main Christian tribes in Ajloun. although Christians are a minority in the governorate they form about the half of the population in Ajloun-City ,most of Christians resides in Ajloun-City along with Muslims of Al-smadi tribe, other tribes are distributed in the other districts of the governorate . Ajloun Governorate has four seats in the national parliament one of which is dedicated for the Christian minority.

According to the Jordan national census of 2004, the population of the town of Ajloun was 7,289. For Ajloun Governorate was about 131,000. Muslims make up the majority of Ajloun's population, there are Christian minority groups in the city as well. The governorate of Ajloun is highly agricultural, as the population distribution tells.

There is a theory that the town's name is connected with the Moabite King Eglon mentioned in the Bible, though the precise derivation is obscure.

Ajlun Castle is located on the site of an old monastery. It was built in 1184 by Izz al-Din Usama, a general in the army of Saladin. The castle controlled traffic along the road connecting Damascus and Egypt. The fortress marks the furthest limit of Frankish incursions during the Crusades. The Mamluks added a prominent tower to the castle. It was captured by the Mongols in 1260 and was partially destroyed in the process.

Located in the center of Ajloun is the Great Ajlun Mosque. This mosque is one of the oldest extant in Jordan and dates back around 800 years. In 2007 work began on improving the mosque to allow tourists to visit it.

Tell Mar Elias is located just outside the city limits. This site contains Byzantine mosaics which are uncovered during the summer months for tourists. Ajloun National Private University is the only university in Ajloun Governorate.^[1]

The Ajloun Forest Reserve is also located nearby.

Climate and Topography [link]

The Ajlun mountains are famous for their lush vegetation and thick green forests and a good place for hikes. Its highest mountain peaks reach around 1268 meters above sea level and Ajloun mountains receive a few snow storms every year usually in winter season from December to March. It's one of the country's most beautiful regions. Ajlun has a Mediterranean weather rainy and snowy in winter season and pleasant in the summer time.
