The album does not contain the actors' performances from the film, and as such is not considered a true soundtrack album. Byrne stated in an interview that the decision not to release these unique renditions (including performances by John Goodman and Pops Staples) is a major regret. Instead, this is a Talking Heads studio album featuring recordings of songs from the film. While an original cast recording for this movie was never released, several of the film performances did appear on single releases of several songs from the album. An early working title for the project (endorsed by bassist Tina Weymouth) was Wild Infancy.
Later, lead singer Byrne released the album Sounds from True Stories containing incidental music from the soundtrack.
The single "Wild Wild Life" became the big hit from the album, accompanied by its video airplay on MTV. The "Wild Wild Life" video won two MTV Video Music Awards in 1987: "Best Group Video", beating U2 and Crowded House, and "Best Video from a Film". (The video is in fact an extended sequence lifted directly from the film itself). A video for "Love for Sale" was created for use in the film (during a sequence when a woman watches the video on TV), and an extended version was later released as a video in its own right.
In 2006, it was re-released and remastered by Warner Music Group on their Warner Bros./Sire Records/Rhino Records labels in DualDisc format, with three bonus tracks on the CD side (an extended mix of "Wild Wild Life," "Papa Legba" with vocal by Pops Staples, and "Radio Head" with vocals by Tito Larriva). The DVD-Audio side includes both stereo and 5.1 surround high resolution (96 kHz/24bit) mixes, as well as a Dolby Digital version and the videos of "Wild Wild Life" and "Love for Sale." In Europe, it was released as a CD+DVDA two disc set rather than a single DualDisc. The reissue was produced by Andy Zax with Talking Heads.

Released in 1979 on Arista Records. Simple Minds is a post punk / new wave / rock band from Glasgow, Scotland. They formed in 1978. This is their 2nd album. Reel To Real or Real To Real Cacophony is the most experimental album Simple Minds have released, so I hear. Story goes, they were trying to break out of their influences shadow and carve their own sound. maybe they were trying really hard to show that they could be original. Whatever the story was, Reel To Real worked. It never made it onto any billboard charts and or had any hit singles, but it's still a pretty fantastic record. Simple Minds played around with lots of electronic sounds and unconventional time signatures on here. The whole album has this rather dark, surreal vibe to it. Lots of weird soundscapes and strange noises. The vocals are sung very well, in this processed kind of way. The 2nd half of the album contains a more upbeat approach to songwriting, while the 1st half bears the more experimental sounding stuff. Really cool stuff. Very fun and weird sounding. I really enjoy it every time I listen to it. If your a fan of experimental rock or noise pop, check this album out. Roebuck "Pops" Staples (December 28, 1914 December 19, 2000) was a Mississippi-born Gospel and R&B musician. A "pivotal figure in gospel in the 1960s and 70s,"[1] he was an accomplished songwriter, guitarist and singer. He was the patriarch and member of singing group The Staple Singers, which included his son Pervis and daughters Mavis, Yvonne, and Cleotha. Roebuck Staples was born on a cotton plantation near Winona, Mississippi, the youngest of 14 children. When growing up he heard, and began to play with, local blues guitarists such as Charlie Patton, who lived on the nearby Dockery Plantation, Robert Johnson, and Son House.[2][1] He dropped out of school after the eighth grade, and sang with a gospel group before marrying and moving to Chicago in 1935.[3] There he sang with the Trumpet Jubilees while working in the stockyards, in construction work, and later in a steel mill. In 1948 he formed The Staple Singers to sing as a gospel group in local churches, with him singing and playing guitar behind his children. They first recorded in the early 1950s for United and then the larger Vee-Jay Records, with songs including "This May Be the Last Time" (later covered by The Rolling Stones) and "Uncloudy Day".[1] In the 1960s the Staples Singers moved to Riverside Records and later Stax Records, and began recording protest, inspirational and contemporary music, reflecting the civil rights and anti-war movements of the time.
