An advisory board is a body that provides non-binding strategic advice to the management of a corporation, organization, or foundation. The informal nature of an advisory board gives greater flexibility in structure and management compared to the Board of Directors. Unlike the Board of Directors, the advisory board does not have authority to vote on corporate matters or bear legal fiduciary responsibilities. Many new or small businesses choose to have advisory boards in order to benefit from the knowledge of others, without the expense or formality of the Board of Directors.
The function of an advisory board is to offer assistance to enterprises with anything from marketing to managing human resources to influencing the direction of regulators. Advisory boards are composed of accomplished experts offering innovative advice and dynamic perspectives. Meeting quarterly or biannually, boards can provide strategic direction, guide quality improvement, and assess program effectiveness.
The Mines Advisory Group (MAG) is a non-governmental organization that assists people affected by landmines, unexploded ordnance, and small arms and light weapons.
MAG takes a humanitarian approach to landmine action. They focus on the impact of their work on local communities. This approach recognises that although the number of landmines in an area may be small, the effect on a community can be crippling. Targets are therefore determined locally, in response to liaison with affected communities, and local authorities.
MAG field operations are managed and implemented by nationals of the affected countries, with MAG expatriate staff taking a monitoring and training role. MAG provides work for many members of affected communities, with families of landmine victims taking an active role.
MAG is based in Manchester, United Kingdom, and has a sister organisation, MAG America in Washington, D.C., United States. As part of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, MAG was co-laureate of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize.

We were approached by Mines Advisory Group, or MAG, to create a film to play on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury Festival and the Main Stage at V Festival this year. After our initial meeting with them we presented them with four concepts. The 'spinning ' idea was thought the best execution to convey MAG's important message. We then scripted, storyboarded and animated using a mixture of After Effects, illustrator and Cinema 4D. Our very own Ben Sutherland recorded the voice over which helped us to to keep any costs down to a minimum. Land mines are responsible for 1000's of deaths every year. The Manchester based band, Elbow allowed us to use their new track 'Colour Fields' to be used for free to help promote the charity and this worthy cause. We are very proud of this film and are o...
