Diamant A. FRENCH AUDIO. This was the first version of the Diamant rocket. It was used to launch the Astérix and subsequently three other small satellites during 1965-67 from the base at Hammaguir in Algeria. Remarkably for a newly developed system, all four attempted launched were partly successful, the only failure occurring on the second launch when the payload was inserted into a lower orbit than planned. It possessed a first stage of 10 m, 1.4 meters in diameter, and a weight of 14.7 metric tons. Their engines of the type LRBA Vexin supplied a thrust of 269 kN for 93 seconds. The second stage was 4.7 meters long and had a diameter of 80 centimeters. It weighed 2.9 metric tons and developed a thrust of 165 kN for a duration of 44 seconds. The third stage of 2.65 m in diameter. Its weight amounted to 709 kilograms. It burned for 45 seconds and developed a thrust of 27 kN to 53 kN. Completely installed, a Diamond A was 18.95 meters high and weighed 18.4 metric tons. Quand bien même l'OVNI fut dans la direction de SIRIUS (cliquer PLUS...!!!) qu'aucune confusion n'était possible... Une étude scientifique sérieuse aurait du évidemment le conclure. Nous allons prouver que le CNES ne fait pas son travail car aucune étude ni scientifique ni sérieuse n'a été diligentée. Aucun IPN ne m'a contacté ! Nous allons voir 3 points dans cette vidéo : 1) Sur le plan horizontal, nous ne sommes pas dans la même direction, 2) Sur le plan vertical, la différence est énorme également et 3) Sur le plan de la luminosité cet objet était approximativement entre 100 et 1000 fois plus lumineux que Sirius. Une étude scientifique sérieuse aurait du évidement conclure l'inverse de ce qui a été fait. J'ai eu deux conversations avec M Passot responsable du GEIPAN mais jamais il ne m'a interrogé sur une confusion. Si dans son imaginaire, il pouvait avoir des doutes, pourquoi n'a-t-il pas analysé mon rapport et pourquoi ne m'a-t-il rien dit ? Qu'il projette ses doutes qui lui appartiennent sans enquêter sur ce point, en ne faisant pas le point avec moi, montre la subjectivité de cette analyse soit disant scientifique. Il n'y a donc aucun organisme en France prêt à étudier avec sérieux les observations des témoins ! La preuve : Observation d'un objet créé par une intelligence et non d'une étoile en plein jour comme la fausse analyse du CNES (GEIPAN) tente d'en faire une banalité qu'elle n'est surtout pas. The Centre National d'Études Spatiales (CNES) (English: National Centre for Space Studies) is the French government space agency (administratively, a "public administration with industrial and commercial purpose"). Established under President Charles de Gaulle in 1961, its headquarters are located in central Paris and it is under the supervision of the French Ministries of Defence and Research. It operates out of the Guiana Space Centre, but also has payloads launched from space centres operated by other countries. CNES formerly was responsible for the training of French astronauts, but the last active CNES astronauts transferred to the European Space Agency in 2001. CNES is member of Institut au service du spatial, de ses applications et technologies.

Access to space[link]
France was the third space power to achieve access to space, sharing technologies with Europe to develop the Ariane launcher family. Commercial competition in space is fierce, so launch services must be tailored to space operators’ needs. The new versions of Ariane 5 can launch large satellites or perform dual launches while the Vega and Soyuz-2 are small and medium-lift launchers.
Sustainable development[link]
CNES and its partners in Europe—through the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security initiative (GMES)—and around the world have put in place satellites dedicated to observing the land, oceans and atmosphere, as well as to hazard and crisis management.
The best-known are the SPOT satellites flying the Vegetation instrument, the Topex/Poseidon and Jason-1 oceanography satellites, the Argos system, Envisat and—in the near future—Jason-2 and the Pleiades satellites.
Civil applications[link]
CNES is taking part in the Galileo navigation programme alongside the European Union and ESA, and—in a wider international context—in the Cospas-Sarsat search-and-rescue system.
Security and defence[link]
In addition to Spot and the future Pleiades satellites, CNES is working for the defence community as prime contractor for the Helios satellites.
GMES—a joint initiative involving the EU, ESA and national space agencies—pools space resources to monitor the environment and protect populations, but it also encompasses satellite support for armed forces and for European organisations on humanitarian or peacekeeping missions.
Ongoing missions[link]
France’s contribution to the International Space Station is giving French scientists the opportunity to perform original experiments in microgravity. The CNES is currently studying formation flying, a technique whereby several satellites fly components of a much heavier and complex instrument in a tightly controlled configuration. CNES is collaborating with other space agencies in a number of projects. Orbital telescopes such as INTEGRAL, XMM-Newton and COROT, and space probes like Mars Express, Venus Express, Cassini-Huygens and Rosetta, operated by the European space agency are revolutionizing our knowledge of the Universe and our Solar System. Recent satellites such as Demeter (earthquakes). Joint missions with NASA result in PARASOL and CALIPSO (radiation budget) satellites. Megha-Tropiques Mission is a planned collaborative mission with the Indian Space Agency (ISRO) designed to study the water cycle and radiation dynamics, and assist observation from other satellite platforms. CNES plays a major role in the construction and operation of the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity satellite.

In December 2006, CNES announced that it would publish its UFO archive online by late January or mid-February. Most of the 6,000 reports have been filed by the public and airline professionals. Jacques Arnould, an official for the French Space Agency, said that the data had accumulated over a 30 year period and that they were often reported to the Gendarmerie.
In the last 2 decades of the 20th century, France was the only country with officially paid UFO investigators, employed by CNES's UFO section GEPAN, later known as SEPRA and now as GEIPAN.

On March 22, 2007, CNES released its UFO files to the public through its website. The 100,000 pages of witness testimony, photographs, film footage and audiotapes are an accumulation of over 1,600 sightings since 1954 and will include all future UFO reports obtained by the agency, through its GEIPAN unit.
Skeptical critics[link]
