In the spring of 2012 the popular Test Track ride closed at Epcot for a makeover. The old ride was a crowd favorite and many people were surprised. The idea behind it was that you were in a crash test facility and you would help to run a car through its paces. The ride ended with a stretch on the "open road" where the car would hit 65 MPH.
On December 6, 2012 Test Track reopened. The official new name is Test Track Presented by Chevrolet. Gone are the crash test dummies and the videos. Instead you'll see sleek new cars that dreams are made of while in the queue line. Once you're closer to riding you'll have a chance to "design" your own concept car. This is simply taking a tag, placing it on a scanner and answering a couple of questions. Along the course you will have a chance to see how your car would perform against other vehicles on computer screens.
The ride itself will make you think of the movie Tron. It has a futuristic feel and lots of blue light. Six people ride in each car. On the indoor track the vehicle will practice braking and maneuvering. The outdoor track is the same as it was before, with the car hitting the open road, going around some sharp turns at top speed and eventually hitting the 65 MPH mark.
Test Track still delivers one of the biggest thrills at Epcot. Fans of the old ride will love that the new version still has many of the same elements. Those who have never ridden it before will enjoy the thrill, especially at the end. Test Track is a FASTPASS attraction and there is also a single rider line. Guests must be at least 40 inches tall to ride.
