  Becker College
  Becker College is a college in central Massachusetts, United States with campuses in Worcester and Leicester. Becker College traces its history from the union of two Massachusetts educational institutions—one founded in 1784 and the other in 1887. The college offers 27 undergraduate degree programs including a nursing program which is one of the top 20 producers of registered nurses in Massachusetts, a veterinary sciences program and a video game design and development program ranked in the top 10 nationally for the past three years by The Princeton Review. In April 2011, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts designated Becker as the home of the Massachusetts Digital Games Institute (MassDiGI). The college’s enrollment has grown to 1,750 and students have the opportunity to live and study in the urban atmosphere of Worcester or the rural environment of Leicester. Becker College has over 21,000 alumni.
  Located in the heart of Massachusetts, Becker is a unique New England college. The institution comprises two separate campuses located six miles apart, each with its own dormitories, library, dining hall and academic facilities. • Albrecht Becker
  Albrecht Becker (14 November 1906 – 22 April 2002) was a production designer, photographer, and actor, who was imprisoned by the Nazi regime for the charge of homosexuality. Albrecht always had an eye for a bigger life. Exceptionally handsome and a snappy dresser, he attracted attention wherever he went.
  Born in Thale, Germany, at eighteen, Becker fell in love at eighteen with an older man, with whom he lived for nearly ten years. He was an actor and production designer, he lived with his partner who was the Director of the State Archive, in Wurzburg. Through him, he met an array of artists and influential people who took him on travels around the world and showed him a life of culture and sophistication.

  He was trained as a teacher and shortly devoted himself completely to photography. There was a period of time when he lived in Freiburg and Vienna where he earned his first exhibitions and commissions as well as work for the newspaper and magazines.
  During the 1970's he chose a broad range of subjects in regards to his photography which included ushers at the Vienna Opera, monks in an Augustinian monastery, Berlin gravediggers. the overgrown ruins of Kustrin and at the center of his work the human body: which was photographed as a whole or in radical segments.

  Armando Becker (born June 9, 1966 in Caracas) is a retired male basketball player from Venezuela, who played as a forward during his career. He competed for the Venezuela national basketball team at the 1990 FIBA World Championship and at the 1991 Pan American Games. At the latter tournament, the Venezuelan team was disqualified after Becker was found guilty of using doping in the match against Uruguay on 13 August 1991.   August Becker (17 August 1900, Staufenberg, Hesse - 31 December 1967) was during the Nazi regime in Germany (1933–1945) an SS lieutenant colonel (Obersturmbannführer) and chemist in the Central Reich Security Office (RSHA). He helped design the vans with a gas chamber built into the back compartment used in early Nazi mass murder of disabled people, political dissidents, Jews, and other "racial enemies," including Action T4 as well as the Einsatzgruppen (mobile Nazi death squads) in the Nazi-occupied portions of the Soviet Union. Generally his role was to provide important technical support, but on at least one occasion he personally gassed about 20 people.
  August Becker was born on 17 August 1900 in Staufenberg in the German state of Hesse. He was the son of a factory owner. He was inducted into the German Army toward the end of World War I. Afterward Becker studied chemistry and physics at the University of Giessen, where in 1933 he achieved the PhD degree in chemistry. From 1933 to 1935 he remained as an assistant at the university.

  Barbara Becker was born to an African-American photographer, Harlan Feltus, and a German teacher, Ursula.
  Barbara Becker became famous when she began dating Boris Becker. Harlan took the picture of a nude Boris and Barbara for the cover of Stern. They married a month before their son, Noah, was born on 18 January 1994. Their second child, Elias Balthasar, was born on 4 September 1999.
  In late 1999, after being contacted by a woman claiming to be pregnant with Becker's child, Barbara took Noah and Elias to Miami, Florida, side-stepping her prenuptial agreement, and setting up an international custody battle. The hearings were broadcast live back to Germany. A Munich court granted Becker a divorce in January 2001.
  On 6 January 2009, Barbara and artist Arne Quinze announced their engagement. They married on 9 September 2009 at their home in Miami, Florida. They celebrated the wedding on 13 September 2009 in Berlin, Germany. They divorced in 2011.

  Becker is the son of actress Monika Hansen and actor Rolf Becker. He is the brother of actress Meret Becker and the stepson of Otto Sander. His grandmother was the comedian Claire Schlichting. Becker is Jewish by his mother and grandmother, Monika Hansen and Claire Schlichting.^{[citation needed]}
  As a child, Becker participated in radio dramas and had several small roles in films. Between 1985 and 1987 he trained as an actor in the Berliner Schaubühne theatre. His first contract was with Ernst-Deutsch-Theater in Hamburg. Later he joined the Staatstheater Stuttgart (Stuttgart State Theatre), where he was mostly remembered for his role (1991–1992) as Ferdinand in Schiller's Intrigue and Love. Later, he worked with the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, and played the role of Tybalt in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in the Deutschen Schauspielhaus in Hamburg.
  His first memorable role in cinema was in 1991, in the film Das serbische Mädchen, where he played the role of the arrogant German boyfriend of the pregnant Serbian heroine. His big break was in 1995 as Peter, who fell in love with a man, in Joseph Vilsmaier's Schlafes Bruder. In the film Comedian Harmonists he played the singer Robert Biberti.

  Benjamin Becker (born 16 June 1981) is a German professional tennis player. Becker's primary weapon is a very big serve that he can hit at up to 220km/h, along with powerful groundstrokes.
  Becker was born at Merzig, Saarland, then part of West Germany. He won the 2004 NCAA singles title while helping Baylor University to the team title. A rarity in men's tennis, Becker attended college for four years before turning pro.
  Becker is not related to fellow player Boris Becker.
  2006 was a breakthrough year for Becker. In June of that year, he qualified for Wimbledon and defeated Juan Ignacio Chela, before losing in the second round to Fernando Verdasco.
  At the 2006 U.S. Open, he defeated Filippo Volandri and #30 seed Sébastien Grosjean to reach the third round, where he defeated former World No. 1 Andre Agassi in 4 sets. The match was especially noteworthy as it was Agassi's last on the ATP circuit: he had announced that the 2006 U.S. Open would be his final tournament, and his defeat was followed by an 8-minute standing ovation from the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd. The day after Becker's win over Agassi, his own U.S. Open bid was ended by Andy Roddick in the fourth round.

  Bill Becker (November 10, 1916, Chicago, Illinois – January 27, 2010, Santa Monica, California) was an American journalist noted for his coverage of nuclear weapons tests, political campaigns, scientific advances, and major sporting events. He covered over 25 Rose Bowls and five World Series.
  Becker attended the College of the Pacific, now the University of the Pacific (UOP) in Stockton, CA. While there he played football under the legendary coach, Amos Alonzo Stagg.
  Following his graduation from the University of the Pacific, Becker started his journalism career at the Arizona Republic. In 1944 he joined the Associated Press and covered numerous atomic tests. In 1956 he began a long career at The New York Times which resulted in over 600 Times articles. In 1957 he spent five months in Antarctica as a Times reporter during the International Geophysical Year.
  From 1964 through 1966 he worked as writer for Universal Studios, returning to journalism in 1966 as a science writer for Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, while continuing to cover major sporting events for The New York Times.

  Boris Franz Becker (born 22 November 1967) is a former World No. 1 professional tennis player from Germany. He is a six-time Grand Slam singles champion, an Olympic gold medalist, and the youngest-ever winner of the men's singles title at Wimbledon at the age of 17. Becker also won five major indoor championships titles including three ATP Masters World Tour Finals (played eight finals, second all-time to Ivan Lendl, who played nine) and one WCT Finals and one Grand Slam Cup. He also won five Masters 1000 series titles and eight Championship Series titles. Tennis Magazine put Becker in 18th place on its list of the 40 greatest tennis players from 1965 to 2005.
  Becker was born in Leimen, West Germany, the only son of Elvira (née Pisch), who was raised in Czechoslovakia. His parents were Catholic, and part of his mother's family were Jewish. His father Karl-Heinz, an architect, founded the tennis centre (Tennis-Club Blau-Weiß 1964 Leimen e. V.) in Leimen, where Becker learned the game.
  Becker turned professional in 1984, under the guidance of Romanian-born coach, Günther Bosch, and with Ion Ţiriac as manager and won his first professional doubles title that year in Munich. As a West German teenager, Becker won his first top-level singles title in June 1985 at Queen's Club and two weeks later on 7 July, became the first unseeded player and the first German to win the Wimbledon singles title, defeating Kevin Curren in four sets. At the time, he was the youngest ever male Grand Slam singles champion at &1000000000000001700000017 years, &10000000000000227000000227 days (a record later broken by Michael Chang in 1989, who won the French Open when he was &1000000000000001700000017 years, &10000000000000110000000110 days).   Britta Becker (born 11 May 1973 in Rüsselsheim, Hesse) is a former German field hockey midfield player.
  Becker made her debut in the German women's field hockey team in 1991 and was the youngest in the Olympic squad in 1992. She was part of the 1995 winning team in the European Cup and the bronze medal winning team in the 1998 World Cup. She retired in 2004, just before her team won the Olympic gold medal in Athens.   Chad Becker (born February 3, 1987 in St. Charles, Missouri) is an American soccer player currently without a club.
  Becker attended Francis Howell North High School, where he received Missouri All-State First Team honors in 2004., before playing college soccer Rockhurst University. He started every game for the Hawks from 2006–2008 and received All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Third Team honors in 2006. In 2008, he recorded 15 shutouts and was placed on the All-GLVC First Team, NSCAA Great Lakes All-Region First Team and NSCAA All-American First Team and was named GLVC Defensive Player of the Year.

  Harold Craig Becker (born November 14, 1956), known professionally as Craig Becker, is an American labor attorney and a former member of the National Labor Relations Board.
  Craig Becker was born to Ruth and Sam Becker; his mother, now deceased, was a nurse, and his father a World War II veteran and a professor at the University of Iowa. Becker graduated from Yale University in 1978, and Yale Law School in 1981. He was an editor of the Yale Law Journal.
  Becker clerked for Judge Donald P. Lay from 1981 through 1983. He then worked at Kirschner, Weinberg & Dempsey (1983–1989), a firm located in Washington, D.C. After his work there, he taught at UCLA Law School (1989–1994) and Georgetown University Law School (1987–1988). He taught at the University of Chicago Law School. He has been Associate General Counsel to the AFL-CIO and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Throughout his career, he argued many cases in court, including in front of the Supreme Court of the United States.   Dietrich Becker (ca. 1623 – ca. 1679) was a German Baroque violinist and composer.
  Little is known about Becker's musical education. His first position was as organist at Ahrensberg. In his second position, in the service of the Chapelle Ducale (Ducal Chapel) of the Duke Christian-Ludwig at Celle, he mainly devoted himself to the violin. In 1662 he settled in Hamburg as a violinist in the service of the Conseil de la Ville (City Council) and in 1667 he was named Maître de Chapelle (Chapel Master).
  In 1668 Becker dedicated a collection of pieces entitled Musikalischen Frühlingsfrüchte (Musical Spring Fruit) to the mayor and members of the City Council. This collection consisted of chamber sonatas and suites for 3 to 5 voices with basso continuo. In 1674, his Zweystimmigen Sonaten und Suiten (Sonatas and Suites for Two Voices) was published.

  Becker, in collaboration with Thomas Sterling, created Beowulf clustering while at NASA, using software to connect many inexpensive PCs to solve complex math problems typically reserved for classic supercomputers. For this work, Becker received the Gordon Bell Prize in 1997.

  Douglas Becker is a choreographer and teacher working in many idioms, including contemporary ballet and improvisation throughout Europe and the United States. A founding member and principal dancer of the Frankfurt Ballet, where he performed with distinction for over 10 years, under the direction of choreographer William Forsythe; he played a pivotal role in the creation of many signature pieces and is one of a number of individuals around the world with the authority to remount Forsythe repertoire.
  During the past decade of making his own creations, Becker's choreography has been hailed as "innovative and energetic, very graphic and with purity of movement", and praised for its "delicate, intricate partnering and fleet movements". Becker's collaborative process of choreographic development improvises upon and utilizes dancers' individual talents and characteristics.
  Spanning over a decade of choreographic investigation recent commissions include Extreme Memory created for the National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam in 2005. To Each His Own, was for Switzerland's Grand Théâtre de Genève in 2004, which included repeat invitations to work with Ballet de Lorraine and Conservatoire Nationale Supérieur de Danse, both in France. His improvisation workshop and installation piece, The Third Eye, created for the Museum of Grenoble, was restaged for CCN Ballet de Lorraine in 2003. As a Flemish Government Arts Commission grant recipient, Becker directed and performed in a stage work, Brutal Elves in the Woods, for Brussels' multidisciplinary arts organization Nadine. Due to popular acclaim, in 2002 it was expanded and a second part added. Since 2000, Becker has been a Guest Lecturer at University of California Irvine, in choreography, Forsythe repertoire, improvisation and ballet technique.

  Edmund Becker (born 18 July 1957 in Reichenbach) is a former German footballer, who works as manager of the Karlsruher SC youth centre.
  Becker's biggest success was as a player with Karlsruher SC, when he finished in tenth place in the Bundesliga. During his time with KSC, he played as a midfielder and a defender, playing 94 times between 1980 and 1985, scoring nine goals.

  Edward Roy Becker (May 4, 1933 – May 19, 2006) was a United States federal judge on the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
  Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Becker received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1954, and his LL.B. from Yale Law School in 1957. He had a private law practice in Philadelphia from 1957 to 1970.
  Becker's career as a federal judge began with his nomination to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He was nominated by President Richard M. Nixon on September 24, 1970 to a new seat created by 84 Stat. 294, was confirmed by the United States Senate on October 8, 1970 and received his commission on October 14, 1970. His service terminated on January 22, 1982 due to his elevation to the Third Circuit.
  Ronald Reagan nominated Becker on November 16, 1981 to the Third Circuit seat vacated by Max Rosenn. Becker was confirmed by the Senate on December 3, 1981 and received his commission on the same day. He served as Chief Judge from 1998 to 2003. He assumed senior status on May 4, 2003.

  Elisabeth Becker
  Elisabeth Becker (20 July 1923 – 4 July 1946) was a concentration camp guard in World War II.
  Becker was born in Neuteich, Free City of Danzig (today Nowy Staw, Poland) to a German family. In 1936, aged 13, she joined the League of German Girls.
  In 1938 she became a cook in Danzig.
  In 1939 the Germans arrived in the city, and Becker reportedly adapted successfully. In 1940 she began working for the firm Dokendorf in Neuteich, where she worked until 1941, when she became an agriculture assistant in Danzig.
  In 1944, the SS needed more guards at the nearby concentration camp at Stutthof, and Becker was called up for service. She arrived at Stutthof on September 5, 1944 to begin training as an SS Aufseherin. She later worked in the Stutthof women's camp at SK-III. There, she personally selected women and children for the gas chamber.
  Becker fled the camp on January 15, 1945 and went back home to Neuteich. On April 13 Polish police arrested and placed her in prison to await trial. The Stutthof Trial began in Danzig on May 31, 1946 with five former SS women and several kapos as defendants. Becker, along with the other ten defendants, was sentenced to death.

  Elizabeth Becker is a journalist and author who specializes in trade, development, and Asian affairs.
  Becker began her career as a war correspondent for The Washington Post covering Cambodia. She left Cambodia when the Khmer Rouge expelled all foreigners from the country in April 1975. She was one of two American journalists allowed by the Khmer Rouge to return to Democratic Kampuchea briefly in 1978. Just weeks after her visit, the Vietnamese army attacked and overthrew the Khmer Rouge. She is the author of When the War Was Over, a modern history of Cambodia and the Khmer Rouge.
  She covers foreign and domestic issues, especially those relating to agriculture, international relief and development, and homeland security for The New York Times. Previously she was the Senior Foreign Editor for National Public Radio.
  Becker holds a degree in South Asian studies from the University of Washington and did language studies at the Kendriya Hindi Sansthaan in Agra, India. She is on the board of directors of the Arthur F. Burns Foundation and the Pearl S. Buck Foundation.

  Ernest Becker (September 27, 1924 - March 6, 1974) was a cultural anthropologist and interdisciplinary scientific thinker and writer. He is noted for his 1974 Pulitzer Prize-winning book, The Denial of Death.
  Becker was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Jewish immigrant parents. After completing military service, in which he served in the infantry and helped to liberate a Nazi concentration camp, he attended Syracuse University in New York. Upon graduation he joined the US Embassy in Paris as an administrative officer. In his early 30s, he returned to Syracuse University to pursue graduate studies in cultural anthropology. He completed his Ph.D. in 1960. The first of his nine books, Zen: A Rational Critique (1961) was based on his doctoral dissertation.   After graduating from Syracuse University in 1960, Becker began his career as a teaching professor and writer. Becker taught at Syracuse University for a few years before eventually being fired in 1963 for siding with his mentor Dr. Thomas Szasz in the psychotherapy disputes. In 1965, Becker acquired a position at the University of California, Berkeley in the anthropology program. However, trouble again arose between him and the administration, leading to his departure from the university. At the time, thousands of students petitioned to keep Becker at the school and offered to pay his salary, but the petition did not succeed in retaining Becker. In 1967, he taught at San Francisco State’s Department of Psychology until January 1969 when he resigned in protest against the administration’s stringent policies against the student demonstrations.

  Heinrich Becker (1770–1822) was a German actor whose real name was Blumenthal.
  He was born at Berlin, and obtained, while quite a young man, an appointment in the court theatre at Weimar, at that time under Goethe's auspices. The poet recognized his talent, appointed him stage manager, entrusted him with several of the leading roles in his dramas and consulted him in all matters connected with the staging of his plays.
  For many years Becker was the favourite of the Weimar stage, and although he was at his best in comedy, he played, to Goethe's great satisfaction, Vansen in Egmont, and was also seen to great advantage in the leading parts of several of Schiller's plays; notably Burleigh in Maria Stuart, Karl Moor in Die Räuber, and Antonio in Torquato Tasso.
  Becker left Weimar in the spring of 1809, played for a short time at Hamburg (under Schröder) and at Breslau, and then began a wandering life, now joining travelling companies, now playing at provincial theatres. Broken in health and ruined in fortune he returned in 1820 to Weimar, where he was again cordially received by Goethe, who reinstated him at the theatre. In the 1945 World Series he made three appearances as a pinch hitter, going 1-for-2 with a walk. His hit was a single against winning pitcher Dizzy Trout in Game # 4.
  He was traded by the Cubs to the Cleveland Indians for first baseman Mickey Rocco and cash on June 26, 1946 and hit .299 in 59 games that season. He was released by Cleveland on May 14, 1947. He signed with the Boston Braves two days later, but never again appeared in a major league game.

In 1928 he was promoted to Stabsfeldwebel (Warrant Officer) in the 2nd Artillery Regiment at Szczecin. At the end of his service in 1933 he joined the SS and met Wilhelm Bittrich and Hermann Prieß. According to his personnel file, he joined his service on 01.01.1934 and on 17.06.1934 was appointed adjutant of the 74th SS-Standarte. In 1935 Becker was transferred to the SS Totenkopf association "Bavaria" as the commander of the recruit training company, also being responsible for the units transport. In 1937 Becker was promoted to Sturmbannführer (Storm Unit Leader/Major) and in 1938 was again promoted to Obersturmbannführer (Senior Storm Unit Leader/Lieutenant Colonel). Becker's unit was involved in the Anschluss of Austria and the occupation of the Sudetenland.

  Becker was born in Paris, in an upper-class background. During the 1930s he worked as an assistant to director Jean Renoir during his peak period, which produced such cinematic masterpieces as Grand Illusion and The Rules of the Game. Part of the Comité de libération du cinéma français, during the German occupation of France in World War II, the Nazis held him in prison for a year. During the occupation he also became a director in his own right and went on to direct the brilliant period romance Casque d'or, the influential gangster film Touchez pas au grisbi, and the masterful prison escape drama Le Trou. Long underrated, Becker is now regarded as one of the masters of French cinema.
  He married actress Françoise Fabian. Their son Jean Becker also became a film director.

  He began his studies with Franz Nikolaus Jung in Worms. When he was 17 years old he started to work as litograph. His first important work was a panorama over the Rhine from Mainz to Cologne. Between 1833 and 1841 Becker studied at the Academy of Art in Düsseldorf, his professors were Johann Wilhelm Schirmer and Wilhelm von Schadow. In 1842 he became professor of genre painting and landscape painting at the Städel in Frankfurt.
  Becker is associated with the Düsseldorf school of painting.
  He broke with the lofty attitude of much Biblical historical painting in the Städel creating his profane scenes. As the first professor of landscape and genre painting, he sought his subjects in the countryside and was especially interested in the social problems of the peasantry. He used much realistic detail and emotional gesture.
  He was also open to French influences. In 1858 he offered to share his studio with Gustave Courbet and - despite having to endure some rudeness from the French artist - Becker accepted some of his stylistic influences.

At the age of 16, he became part of the Mike Varney-produced duo Cacophony with his friend Marty Friedman. They released Speed Metal Symphony in 1987 and Go Off! in 1988. Cacophony broke up in 1989 and Becker began doing solo work, having released his first album Perpetual Burn in 1988. He later joined David Lee Roth's band and recorded one album with him. However, Becker's success was hampered by his then-diagnosed amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and he was given three to five years to live. In 1996, Becker eventually lost the ability to speak and now communicates with his eyes via a system developed by his father. Despite his disability, he continues composing by using a computer and has since released Collection, a "best of" album of his favorite songs and three new songs.
  Becker was born and raised in the city, Richmond, California by his parents, Gary and Pat Becker. He was born on 23rd Street in Richmond Hospital in 1969.   Jens Becker (born 24 May 1965 in Fürth, Germany) is a metal bass guitarist who currently performs with Grave Digger.
  The first real big band Jens played with in hir career was Running Wild, which he joined in 1987. He stayed with them for 4 years and did write/co-write a couple of songs during his time in the band.
  Just some time later he had quit Running Wild in 1991, a new Speed/Heavy metal band called X-Wild was formed by three ex-members of Running Wild (thus the name X (Ex) Wild), which Jens was the only bassist for under its existence. That band got disbanded in 1997.
  In 1997 the classic Heavy metal band Grave Digger lost their former bassist Tomi Göttlich and so Jens was asked to take his place. He did join them and has since then remained a solid member of the band.
  Some other bands that he has been involved in is Kingdom Come and also the Melodic Heavy metal-project Zillion, releasing a selftitled album in 2004.

  Jurek Becker (September 30, 1937 – March 14, 1997) was a Polish-born German writer, film-author and GDR dissident. His most famous novel is Jacob the Liar, which has been made into two films. He lived in Łódź during World War II for about two years and survived the Holocaust.
  Jurek Becker was born in 1937 and lived in the Łódź Ghetto as a child. When he was five, he was sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp and later to Sachsenhausen. His mother died in the Holocaust, but his father survived; father and son were reunited after the war and settled together in East Berlin.
  After completing his national service in the East German army in the 1950s, during which time he became firm friends with the actor Manfred Krug, Becker studied philosophy in East Berlin but was expelled for expressing non-conformist views. In the 1960s he wrote film scripts, one of which, Jakob der Lügner (Jacob the Liar), he turned into a novel when the film production was halted. It was made into a film by the East German film company DEFA in 1974 and in 1975 became the only East German film ever to be nominated for an Academy Award (in the foreign-language film category), though it did not win. A 1998 remake, starring Robin Williams in the title role, had limited success. By the mid-1970s differences of opinion with the GDR authorities were becoming apparent, and Becker was one of the original twelve signatories of the petition against the expulsion of writer and singer Wolf Biermann in November 1976. In 1977 he moved from East to West Berlin, though somewhat unusually he retained his East German citizenship. He continued to publish novels and short stories, some on Jewish themes, others not.

  Lydia Ernestine Becker (24 February 1827 – 18 July 1890) was a leader in the early British suffrage movement, as well as an amateur scientist with interests in biology and astronomy. She is best remembered for founding and publishing the Women's Suffrage Journal between 1870 and 1890.
  Born in Chadderton, Lancashire, the eldest daughter of Hannibal Leigh Becker, whose father, Ernst Becker, emigrated from Ohrdruf, Thuringia. Lydia Becker was educated at home, like many girls at the time. Intellectually curious, she studied botany and astronomy, winning a gold medal for an 1862 scholarly paper on horticulture. Five years later, she founded the Ladies' Literary Society in Manchester; she began a correspondence with Charles Darwin soon afterwards and convinced him to send a paper to the society.
  In the autumn of 1866 Becker attended the annual meeting of the National Association for the Advancement of Social Science, where she was excited by a paper from Barbara Bodichon entitled "Reasons for the Enfranchisement of Women".   In early 1943 Becker transferred to the Nachtjagd, being posted to 11 staffel, Nachtjagdgeschwader 4 (NJG 4—4th Night Fighter Wing). On 1 August 11./NJG 4 became 2./Nachtjagdgeschwader 6 (NJG 6—6th Night Fighter Wing).
  Becker scored his first victory on the night of 22–23 September 1943. In October 1943 Becker was promoted to Staffelkapitän, 2./NJG 6. He shot down three bombers on the night of 20–21 December. His career thereafter featured a series of multiple victory claims. Four victories were claimed on 19–20 February 1944 and six on 22–23 March (13-18). On 30–31 March 1944, the Royal Air Force (RAF) raided Nuremberg. Becker and his crew shot down three Lancaster and three Halifax bombers in the area of Wetzlar and Fulda.   May Lamberton Becker (August 26, 1873 – April 27, 1958) was a journalist and literary critic. She was born in New York and at the age of 20 she married the pianist and composer Gustave A.   While the French-German enmity already was about 200 years old, it was inspired by the Rhine crisis of 1840, caused by the French prime minister Adolphe Thiers, who again voiced demands that France should own the left bank of the Rhine (described as France's "natural boundary"), as France had done decades earlier during Napoleons reign. In response, Becker wrote a poem called Rheinlied, which contained the verse: "Sie sollen ihn nicht haben, den freien, deutschen Rhein ..." (They shall not have him, the free, German Rhine).
  This patriotic poem brought him much praise throughout Germany. The Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV send him 1000 Thaler, and King Ludwig I of Bavaria honoured him with a goblet. The "Rheinlied" was set to music over 70 times, and other Rheinlied songs followed, the most famous being Die Wacht am Rhein. The wording was mostly defensive.

  Oscar Becker (5 September 1889 in Leipzig - 13 November 1964 in Bonn) was a German philosopher, logician, mathematician, and historian of mathematics.
  Becker studied mathematics at Leipzig. His dissertation under Otto Hölder and Karl Rohn (1914) was On the Decomposition of Polygons in non-intersecting triangles on the Basis of the Axioms of Connection and Order.
  He served in World War I and returned to study philosophy with Edmund Husserl, writing his Habilitationsschrift on Investigations of the Phenomenological Foundations of Geometry and their Physical Applications, (1923). Becker was Husserl's assistant, informally, and then official editor of the Yearbook for Phenomenological Research.
  He published Mathematical Existence his magnum opus, in the Yearbook in 1927. A famous work that also appeared in the Yearbook that year was Martin Heidegger's Being and Time. Becker frequently attended Heidegger's seminars during those years.
  Becker utilized not only Husserlian phenomenology but, much more controversially, Heideggerian hermeneutics, discussing arithmetical counting as "being toward death". His work was criticized both by neo-Kantians and by more mainstream, rationalist logicians, to whom Becker feistily replied. This work has not had great influence on later debates in the foundations of mathematics, despite its many interesting analyses of the topic of its title.

  Philip Becker
  Philip Becker (1830–1898) was Mayor of the City of Buffalo, New York, serving 1876–1877 and 1886–1889. He was born in Oberotterbach, Bavaria, Germany, on April 25, 1830. He graduated from college in Germany at sixteen years of age. In 1847, Philip and his older brother were provided the means to pay the fare to America and he settled in Buffalo, where his aunt and uncle lived. In 1852, he married Sarah Goetz. He entered the retail and wholesale grocery business. Becker was instrumental in organizing the German Insurance Company in 1867 and was President of the company from 1869 until his death.
  He was elected mayor on November 2, 1875, as the Republican candidate. He was the first German-American elected mayor of Buffalo. During his first term, in March, 1876, the new County and City Hall was opened. He was defeated by Solomon Scheu in the election of 1877. On November 3, 1885, Becker was once again elected Mayor of Buffalo. He was reelected on November 8, 1887 At the end of his third term, he did not seek re-election. He returned to his business enterprises and retired in 1893. Becker died on July 4, 1898, with an estate valued over $750,000. He was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

  Ralph Elihu Becker (January 29, 1907 – August 24, 1994) was an American Ambassador to Honduras from 1976-1977 under the Ford administration. He was a founding trustee of the National Center for the Performing Arts and served as its general counsel during the Eisenhower administration and until 1976.
  Ralph Becker was born on January 29, 1907, in New York City, to a tailor from Lithuania and a mother from Minsk. He earned his law degree from St. John's University law school in 1928. He served in the Judge Advocate General's Corps in World War II, attached to the 30th Infantry Division. He landed in Normandy after D-Day and won a Bronze Star, along with medals from the Belgian, French, and Dutch governments.
  After his discharge, he went to Washington, D. C. and became the chairman for the Young Republican National Committee. In the 1960s, he joined an Arctic expedition that he had helped sponsor, and brought back a pair of polar bears as a gift for the National Zoo. From 1976-1977 we was rewarded for his lifetime of loyal service to the Republican party with an appointment as Ambassador to Honduras. He died of congestive heart failure on August 24, 1994, and was buried soon afterwards in Arlington National Cemetery.

  Ruth Elizabeth Becker (October 28, 1899 – July 6, 1990) was one of the last remaining survivors of the sinking of the RMS Titanic on April 15, 1912.
  She was born on October 28, 1899 in Guntur, India, to American Lutheran missionary Allen Oliver Becker and his wife Nellie E. Baumgardner. A younger brother, Luther, was born in Lima, Ohio, in March 1905, but died in Guntur just before his second birthday on February 7, 1907. In December 1907, Nellie gave birth to a second daughter, Marion Louise, and a son, Richard, was born in June 1910 at Kodaikanal.
  In early 1912, Richard contracted an illness in India, and Nellie decided to take him and her two daughters to Benton Harbor, Michigan to seek treatment. Allen was expected to join his family the following year.
  Twelve-year-old Becker boarded the Titanic along with her mother Nellie, four-year-old sister Marion and one-year-old brother Richard as second-class passengers on April 10, 1912 at Southampton, England. Shortly after the ship's collision with the iceberg at 11:40 p.m. on April 14, Ruth recalled that a steward told her mother, "We've had a little accident. They're going to fix it, and then we'll be on our way." Realizing that the ship was seriously damaged, Nellie took her children up to the boat deck.   Sally Becker's missions to help the sick and wounded in Bosnia are now famous. Moved by the images of suffering, she set off to the war torn region of Bosnia-Herzagovina determined to try and help. Based on the outskirts of Mostar, a city where Croats and Muslims were fighting for control, Sally began by delivering aid to the west side of the city and soon became a familiar sight as she drove in and out of the city in an old Renault 4. As one of the few foreign aid workers able to travel freely in the area, she was asked by a UN officer to try and gain access to the east side of the city where 50,000 Bosnian Muslims were trapped. With permissiom from the Croatian Ministry of Defence she crossed the front line under fire to evacuate wounded children and their families from the besieged hospital. The mission was successful and she became known as the Angel of Mostar. In December 1993 she led a convoy of 50 vehicles and 200 volunteers from Britain to deliver aid and evacuate the wounded from all sides. In Feb 1994, all aid convoys were grounded due to snow. Sally borrowed a helicopter and flew to Nova Bila in central Bosnia from where she evacuated 55 wounded children and their families.

Becker's mother, father, sister, grandfather, and younger brother have all represented New Zealand on an international scale. Becker's father, Peter Becker, is known as one of the first curlers to represent New Zealand internationally.   Walter Carl Becker (born February 20, 1950 in Queens, New York) is an American musician, songwriter and record producer. He is best known as the co-founder, guitarist, bassist and co-songwriter in Steely Dan.
  Becker met his future songwriting partner Donald Fagen while studying at Bard College. After a brief period of activity in New York, the two relocated to California in 1971 and formed the nucleus of Steely Dan, who enjoyed a critically and commercially successful ten-year career. Following the group's disbanding, Becker relocated to Hawaii and reduced his musical activity, working primarily as a record producer.
  Becker and Fagen reformed Steely Dan in 1993 and have remained active, most notably including their 2000 Two Against Nature album, which won four Grammy Awards. Becker has also released two solo albums, 1994's 11 Tracks of Whack and 2008's Circus Money.

  Wayland Herman Becker (November 2, 1910 – December 1, 1984) was an American football player. He played in the National Football League (NFL) for six seasons.
  Becker was born in Soperton, Wisconsin and attended East High School in Green Bay, Wisconsin. While in high school, he twice led his football team to Fox River Valley conference championships, in 1928 and 1929. Becker went on to attend Marquette University, where he played football and basketball, lettering twice.
  Becker began his NFL career with the George Halas's Chicago Bears in 1934. He played just two games for the Bears before completing the 1934 season with the Brooklyn Dodgers, with whom he stayed through the 1935 season.
  In 1936 Becker went to the Green Bay Packers, where he spent the next three seasons. Those Packers teams played in the NFL Championship Game twice during his tenure, winning in 1936 and losing in 1938.
  He finished his NFL career in 1939 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was released by the Pirates after two games.

  He was born at Dresden, the son of German art historian, numismatist and author Wilhelm Gottlieb Becker. At first destined for a commercial life, he was in 1812 sent to the celebrated school at Pforta. In 1816 he entered the University of Leipzig, where he studied under Beck and Hermann. After holding subordinate posts at Zerbst and Meissen, he was in 1842 appointed professor of archaeology at Leipzig. He died at Meissen on 30 September 1846.
  The works by which Becker is most widely known are the Gallus, oder, römische Scenen aus der Zeit Augusts: zur genaueren Kenntniss des römischen Privatlebens (1838, new ed. by Hermann Göll, 1880–1882), and the Charicles: Bilder altgriechischer Sitte, zur genaueren Kenntniss des griechischen Privatlebens (1840, new ed. by Göll, 1877–1878). These two books were translated into English by Frederick Metcalfe.   Becker studied Germanistics, History and American Studies at the Free University in Berlin. He followed this with a job at a sound studio in 1980 and then began studies at the German Film and Television Academy (dffb). He started working as a freelance cameraman in 1983 and graduated from the dffb in 1986 with Schmetterlinge (Butterflies), which won the Student Academy Award in 1988, the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival, and the Saarland Prime-Minister's Award at the 1988 Ophuels Festival Saarbruecken.
  He directed an episode of television drama Tatort, called Blutwurstwalzer, before making his second feature Kinderspiele (Child's Play, 1992), and the documentary Celibidache (1992).
  In 1994, he co-founded the production company "X Filme Creative Pool" with Tom Tykwer, Stefan Arndt, and Dani Levy. From there he worked with Tykwer on the Berlinale competition feature Das Leben ist eine Baustelle (Life is All You Get, 1997).
