New Zealand Chamois Hunting Trip Gear List This is a list of the gear I took on a hunt for Chamois on the South Island of New Zealand. This list is a bit heavy due to our travel in by helicopter so I took a few extra luxury items to be comfortable around camp. If we had to hike in I would strip out many of the heavier hunting items, day pack, extra insulation, two man tent, spare poles, etc. It would all need to fit only in the large backpack I had in that case (plus food). As a general rule, when you are alpine hunting it's critical you remember: "Light is right!" Every ounce is going to kill you during travel in the hills. Think light and don't take more than you need or you will regret it! The terrain is very unforgiving and a heavy load can cause injuries or falls.
