Candi Staton - Hallelujah Anyway (Larse Vocal Mix)
This track is promotional use only... if you like it please buy from this source Beatport link: s.beatport.com Candi Staton has legacy beyond compare. Responsible for some of the most memorable and best loved soul records of all time, Staton has a voice that is currently captivating a new generation of music lovers just as it did when she first oooed and ahhed onto the music scene as a soul siren in the '70s.Staton's latest single is 'Hallelujah Anyway'; a timeless, feel-good soul record typical of Staton's overwhelmingly positive musical message, now released with remixes from Director's Cut and Larse. Under their Director's Cut guise, Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper deliver two versions that pair Staton's inimitable vocal with Knuckle's legendary house chords with stunningly effective results. Larse meanwhile goes deep with a club-ready cut that demonstrates the versatility of Staton's vocal, sitting proudly over a beautifully melancholic piece of production....and is already becoming one of the vocal records of the summer 2012 season. euronews the network - European Parliament - time to end the costly travelling circus?
www.euronews.com It is a symbol of post-war reconciliation. The European Parliament is built along the border of Europe's once bitterest of enemies from wars that killed millions. It is part of the reconciliation between France and Germany to share power as an engine behind the European Union, with Germany having the seat of the European Central bank. However, it is also very costly, estimated at over 200 million euros a year to maintain the complex of buildings and to transport more than 700 MEPs, thousands of staff and tonnes of materials 400 kilometres from Brussels - it is known as the travelling circus. In times of tight budgets, calls are rising to shut down the Strasbourg parliament. The French government insists the two seat concept is enshrined in treaties sharing institutions across the EU. Some fear revamping those treaties would re-open a political Pandora's box, sparking conflict over who gets what institution. Others say shutting Strasbourg would be a strong symbolic gesture of solidarity with those hurting from budget cuts and would fight the image many Europeans have of a wasteful EU. Wired into this edition of The Network is Rainer Wieland, Vice President of the European Parliament and a member of the EPP group, he supports the parliament being in Strasbourg. Also on the programme, Edward McMillan-Scott who is Vice President of the European Parliament and a member of the ALDE group as well as co-chair of the 'Single Seat' campaign. The Inaugural Henry Cole Lecture: Sir Christopher Frayling, 30 October 2008
The inaugural Henry Cole Lecture, held at the V&A; Museum in London on 30 October 2008. The purpose of the lecture is to celebrate the legacy of the Museum’s founding director, and explore its implications for museums, culture and society today.
The lecture, entitled 'We Must Have Steam: Get Cole! Henry Cole, the Chamber of Horrors, and the Educational Role of the Museum' was delivered by Professor Sir Christopher Frayling. He presented new research on the “chamber of horrors” (a contemporary nickname for one of the V&A;'s earliest galleries, 'Decorations on False Principles', that opened in 1852) and the myths and realities of its reception, then opened up a wider debate on design education and museums from the nineteenth century to the present day.
Transcript:
Mark Jones: The annual Henry Cole lecture has been initiated to celebrate Henry Cole's legacy and to explore the contribution that culture can make to education and society today. It has also been launched to celebrate the opening of the Sackler Centre for arts education, including the Hochhauser Auditorium in which we sit tonight. There could be no one better than Professor Sir Christopher Frayling to give the inaugural Henry Cole Lecture. Christopher is a rare being: an intellectual who is a great communicator; a theorist who has a firm grip on the practical realities of life: a writer who truly and instinctively understands the words of making design and visual communication. As an enormously successful and respected Rector of the Royal College of Art, as Chairman of the Arts Council, and as a member and chair of boards too numerous to mention - but not forgetting the Royal Mint Advisory Committee which has recently been responsible for redesigning the coinage (personal interest) and as by far the longest-serving Trustee of the V&A;, he brings together culture, education and public service in a way which Henry Cole would have approved and admired. So it's more than fitting that he should be giving this first Henry Cole Lecture, 'We Must Have Steam: Get Cole! Henry Cole, the Chamber of Horrors, and the Educational Role of the Museum'.
CHRISTOPHER FRAYLING:
Thank you very much indeed Mark and thank you very much for inviting me to give this first Henry Cole Lecture. Just how much of an honour it is for me will I hope become clear as the lecture progresses.
Mark, Chairpeople, ladies and gentlemen:
Hidden away in the garden of the South Kensington Museum - now the Madejski Garden of the V&A; - there is a small and easily overlooked commemorative plaque that doesn't have a museum number. It reads: 'In Memory of Jim Died 1879 Aged 15 Years, Faithful Dog of Sir Henry Cole of this Museum'. Jim had in fact died on 30 January 1879. He was with Henry Cole in his heyday, as the king of South Kensington - its museums and colleges - and saw him through to retirement from the public service and beyond. And next to this inscription there's another one dedicated to Jim's successor, Tycho, and dated 1885. The dogs are actually buried in the garden. Now we know from Henry Cole's diary that between 1864 and 1879 Jim, who was a cairn terrier, was often to be seen in public at his master's side. In 1864 they were together inspecting the new memorial to the Great Exhibition of 1851 just behind the Albert Hall - a statue of Prince Albert by Joseph Durham on a lofty plinth covered in statistics about the income, expenditure and visitor numbers to the Great Exhibition: 6,039,195 to be exact. Cole had been a tireless champion of Prince Albert and according to the Princess Royal (later Empress of Prussia) there was a family saying in Buckingham Palace at the time, invented by Albert himself, that when things needed doing 'when we want steam we must get Cole'. We may therefore assume that when looking at the memorial, Cole was interested in the inscription, the statistics and the likeness of Prince Albert, while Jim was more interested in the possibilities of the plinth. In early 1866 - these are five studies of Jim, an etching by Henry Cole himself of 1864. In early 1866, first thing in the morning, soon after the workmen's bell had rung, Henry and Jim would set forth together from Cole's newly constructed official residence in the Museum (where he moved in July 1863) to tour the building sites of South Kensington - a name which was first invented by Cole when he re-named the museum The South Kensington Museum to describe the new developments happening around Brompton Church. According to 'The Builder' magazine, these two well-known figures would 'be seen clambering over bricks, mortar and girders up ladders and about scaffolding'. Several buildings in the South Kensington Renaissance Revival style were springing up all around them: The Natural History Museum, The College of Science, the extension to this Museum. And on the morning the Bethnal Green Museum opened - 24 June 1872 - Jim showed a healthy distaste for his master's well-known predilection for pomp and

TOPKAPI PALACE ISTANBUL
Directly north of (ie behind) Haghia Sophia are the walls shielding the imperial enclave of Topkapý Palace. Part command centre for a massive military empire, part archetypal Eastern pleasure dome, the palace was the hub of Ottoman power for more than three centuries, until it was superseded by the Dolmabahçe Palace in 1853. In terms of lavish decor and exquisite siting, it rivals Granada's Alhambra and beats hands down almost anything else in Europe. At least half a day is needed to explore the place fully, although given the high admissions you might want to take a full day over it to get your money's worth. If pushed for time, the must-see elements are the Harem, Imperial Treasury and the views from the fourth and innermost courtyard.
Entrance is via the Imperial Gate (Bab-i Hümayun), erected by the Sultan Fatih in 1478 and decorated with niches that during Ottoman times were used to display the severed heads of rebels and criminals. The gate leads into the first of a series of four courts that become more private the deeper into the complex you penetrate. The First Court was public and not considered part of the palace proper. It housed a hospital and dormitories for the palace guards, hence the popular name, Court of the Janissaries. Off to the left is the church of Haghia Irene (Aya Irini Kilisesi), built by Justinian and thus a contemporary of Haghia Sophia. It has the distinction of being the only pre-Ottoman-conquest church in the city that was never turned into a mosque. Closed most of the time, the church serves as a concert venue during the International Istanbul Music Festival.
Still in the First Court, down the hill to the left, is the superb Archaeological Museum, but the palace proper is entered through the Disneyesque gate ahead. Tickets can be bought on the right, just before you reach the gate, beside the Executioner's Fountain, where the chief axeman washed his blade after carrying out his grisly work. The heads of his victims were also displayed on top of the truncated columns that stand on either side of the fountain.
A semi-public space, the enormous Second Court is where the business of running the empire was carried out. This is where the viziers of the imperial council sat in session in the divan, overlooking gardens landscaped with cypresses, plane trees and rose bushes. Where once there would have been crowds of petitioners awaiting their turn for an audience, nowadays there are queues lined up waiting to get in to the Harem , an introverted complex of around 300 brilliantly tiled chambers on several levels, connected by arcaded courts and fountain gardens. Unfortunately, access is severely limited: you must wait to join a group that leaves every half-hour and is led through no more than a dozen chambers by an official guide. It's not the ideal way to see the place - locked in a crowd and herded around - but it's the only way. Tickets are sold separately, from a window located beside the Harem entrance.
Around from the Harem ticket window, a low brick building topped by shallow domes is the former State Treasury, present home of an exhibition of arms and armour, interesting for the contrast between cumbersome, bludgeonly European swords and the lighter, more deadly-looking Ottoman model. Across the gardens, a long row of ventilation chimneys punctuates the roof line of the enormous kitchens, which catered for up to 5,000 inhabitants of the palace.
They now contain a collection of ceramics, glass and silverware, much of it originating from China and Japan and imported via Central Asia along the legendary Silk Route. The earliest pieces are Chinese celadon, particularly valued by the sultans because it was supposed to change colour when brought into contact with poison.
All paths in the Second Court converge on the Gate of Felicity (Bab-üs Saadet), which serves as the backdrop every year for a performance of Mozart's Abduction From the Seraglio - again, part of the International Istanbul Music Festival. The gate also gives access to the Third Court.
The Third Court was the holy of holies, the sultan's private domain. Confronting all who enter is the Audience Chamber (Arz Odasý), which is where, until it was supplanted in the role by the Sublime Porte , foreign ambassadors would present their credentials. Although the sultan would be present on such occasions, he would never deign to speak with a non-Turk and all conversation was conducted via the grand vizier.
Off to the right is the Hall of the Campaign Pages (Seferli Koðuþu), whose task it was to look after the royal wardrobe. They did an excellent job: there's a perfectly preserved 550-year-old, red-and-gold silk kaftan worn by Mehmet II, conqueror of Constantinople.
Things get even more glittery next door in the Imperial Treasury (Hazine). Many of the items here were made specifically for the palace by a team of court artisans, which at its height numbered over 600. A lot of what's displayed here has never left

Commercial " Albrechtsburg Castle " (English Version)
The Albrechtsburg in Meissen, the cradle of Saxony.
In 929 King Heinrich I of Germany laid the foundations with the construction of a defensive wooden fortification. During the middle ages the castle hill was the most important residence of the Margraves of Meissen. However the area was divided between burgrave and bishop. At the end of the 11th century the most powerful rulers in central Germany were the Wettin family. In 1471 two brothers, Elector Ernst and Duke Albrecht, ordered the construction of the first residential castle in Germany. The master craftsman Arnold von Westfalen conceived a new type of stylistic vocabulary for the building. Large arched windows were placed between the wall pillars. This window and the cell vaulting became the hallmark of late gothic style in Saxony. The castle was designed and built as a place for holding court, for representational purposes and as an administrative centre. The private apartments with living rooms, bedrooms and toilets can still be seen today. After the discovery of European porcelain in 1710, Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony, ordered production to be housed in the Albrechtsburg in Meissen.Manufacture of porcelain was carried out in the gothic rooms for more than 150 years. These rooms with murals portraying a romanticized 19th century view of the history of Saxony and the Wettin dynasty are full of drama, symbol and narrative power.
