Richard Resnick: Welcome to the genomic revolution
www.ted.com In this accessible talk from TEDxBoston, Richard Resnick shows how cheap and fast genome sequencing is about to turn health care (and insurance, and politics) upside down.TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http

www.facebook.com ... Code For Life (Chapter 1): The Human Genome - The Cassiopeia Project. --- Please SUBSCRIBE to Science & Reason: • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com --- The Cassiopeia Project is an effort to make high quality science videos available to everyone. If you can visualize it, then understanding is not far behind. Code for Life: Beginning more than three and a half billion years ago, a tiny, primitive molecule encoded instructions deep within itself. Then it passed these instructions on to its children, who passed it to their children and so on - all the way down through time to all living things today. The human genome, written in a code of just four letters, tells us who we really are - and that generates many questions! Is this process of natural selection coming to an end? Should we choose the best that is in us for our children? If so, who gets to decide what is meant by "the best that is in us"? From amino acids in space to human genes in corn ... THIS is the story. www.cassiopeiaproject.com .

Whole Genome Sequencing and You
This video is about whole genome sequencing. What is a genome? What are the basics of how whole genome sequencing works? What can you find out about yourself from getting your genome sequenced? And what are the potential benefits and risks? You might be considering getting your genome sequenced for clinical, research or personal reasons. Or you might just be curious and want to learn a bit more about this technology. This video was developed to help you understand a bit more about what whole genome sequencing is, and what it could mean for you. It was developed by researchers at Mount Sinai's Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences and Department of Emergency Medicine with funding from the Charles Bronfman Institute for Personalized Medicine, with valuable input from several community consultants, patients and others from around the Mount Sinai community. • Visit the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences: ow.ly • Visit the Department of Emergency Medicine: ow.ly • Visit the Charles Bronfman Institute for Personalized Medicine: ow.ly

The Story of You: ENCODE and the human genome
Ever since a monk called Mendel started breeding pea plants we've been learning about our genomes. In 1953, Watson, Crick and Franklin described the structure of the molecule that makes up our genomes: the DNA double helix. Then, in 2001, scientists wrote down the entire 3-billion letter code contained in the average human genome. Now they're trying to interpret that code; to work out how it's used to make different types of cells and different people. The ENCODE project, as it's called, is the latest chapter in the story of you. To read the ENCODE research papers and more, visit www.nature.com/ENCODE

Genome MIDI Sequencer
apps4idevices.com A 16 Track midi sequencer. No it's the best 16 track Midi sequencer on the App Store! Genome MIDI Sequencer is very, very well done, the UI is really nice (I love it because it's really clearly laid out and easy to understand). The first feature that I love is the Remix Pad: on the first window, you have a button that looks like a "Loop" button. Tap it to open the Remix Pad. Then by using one or two fingers, loop a section of your Pattern, set the pitch and the level of the section... Great! The other feature I love is that you can select the track playing for each Pattern which saves you a lot of time when editing a Song. Genome MIDI Sequencer is a Killer App!

Emma Teeling: The secret of the bat genome
In Western society, bats are often characterized as creepy, even evil. Zoologist Emma Teeling encourages us to rethink our attitude toward bats, whose unique and fascinating biology gives us insight into our own genetic makeup. (Filmed at TEDxDublin.) TEDxDublin was hosted by Science Gallery at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on September 8th, 2012. www.TEDxDublin.com Dr. Emma Teeling is a leading international scientist in the cross-cutting fields of mammalian phylogenetics and comparative genomics, with particular expertise in bat biology. She is the Director of the Centre for Irish Bat Research (2008), a research team leader and a tenured Lecturer at University College Dublin. She has published over 50 internationally peer-reviewed papers, many in the top-ranking journals Science and Nature. Currently she is the recipient of a prestigious European Research Council Starting Grant (2012) and was the recipient of a Science Foundation Ireland, President of Ireland Young Researcher Award (2006). Her integrative research in the fields of comparative genomics and conservation biology uncovers the genetic signatures of survival that enables species to adapt to an ever-changing environment. The two mains goals of her research are (1) study unique model species to enable a better understanding of the structure and function of the human genome to better inform medicine and molecular biology; (2) understand and therefore conserve, natural populations and environments to promote ...

A Brief Introduction to Genetics
A Brief Introduction to Genetics is a short documentary film that explores the history of genetics & genomics and the underlying concepts that provide the foundational knowledge that today's research is built upon. The film describes the history of genetics, from Gregor Mendel, to concepts such as DNA and the genetic code. Having introduced the fundamental ideas of genetics, the film moves on to describe the current techniques used to study genetics. Finally, the film explores the connection of these core concepts to genomics and bioinformatics.

Craig Venter: New Frontiers of Genomic Research - 2011 CIRM Grantee Meeting
J. Craig Venter gave the keynote address at the 2011 California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) Grantee Meeting. Venter's cutting-edge topics included creation of the first synthetic life and exploration of the genetic diversity found in the oceans, air, and soil as well as the human body. Venter has made key contributions to genomics research including being one of the first to sequence the human genome. He is the president of the J. Craig Venter Institute. Venter was introduced by Alan Trounson, president of CIRM.
