St. Edmund Gennings, Elizabethan priest and Martyr, arrested and executed by order of Queen Elizabeth I after ministering to the persecuted Christians of England in the 1580's/1590's, full short biographical film, useful for classrooms and parishes.
Saint Edmund Gennings is one of the lesser known of the Martyrs of England yet the account of his life and mission as a hunted young priest in Elizabethan England is worthy of note and interest. This film takes the biographical information that is available on Saint Edmund Gennings and presents it in a 30 minute film using a detailed and clear narrative, devotional and historical paintings, artwork, maps, footage of nature, historical houses and events and simple costumed imagery. Saint Edmund Gennings is linked to many other English Martyrs. He is particularly remembered for his execution outside the home of Saint Swithun Wells after having been captured and tortured for celebrating the outlawed Catholic Mass. In this production the historical documents and biographical accounts available on Saint Edmund Gennings have been represented into a narrative of his own words. This Martyr is particularly noted for his love of the Mass and the English people. This is a creative and simplified way to learn the life and spirituality of one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales with visual aids to help the narrative flow well.
What you will hear:
The life of Saint Edmund Gennings in a simple, detailed, factual and devotional narrative told from his own point of view. Saint Edmund Gennings will tell you his story. Original music to accompany the narrative.
What you will see:
Historical paintings, maps, symbolic artwork, devotional imagery and portraitures; footage of nature, historical houses and items to aid the Elizabethan style and era; simplified costumed visuals of St. Edmund Gennings, Richard Topcliffe, recusant Catholics, fellow Martyrs and more presented with simple settings and locations to aid the narrative. This film includes locations such as Little Woodham Village in Gosport and The Weald and Downland Open Air Museum near Chichester.
Length:
The film runs for thirty minutes.
Target Audience:
The film is suitable for all ages, aimed mainly at Catholics with an understanding of the Faith and an appreciation for the spiritual life. The film has proven excellent for use in parishes and classrooms with very positive feedback.
The producers:
Mary’s Dowry Productions was established in 2007. The films presenting the lives of the Saints and Martyrs of the Church provide original and simple ways to share the stories and words of these heroic examples of the Faith.

English Martyr, Catholic priest, Polydore Plasden, who was hanged at Tyburn aged 28 by order of Queen Elizabeth I for his Catholic priesthood, tells his story in this creative and original 30minute film also available on DVD. This film is good for use in classrooms and parishes.
This original film was produced in 2010 alongside two other films of Martyrs whose lives were intricately linked to his, St. Edmund Gennings and St. Swithun Wells.
Polydore Plasden was the son of a musical instrument maker in London where customers to his father’s shop might have included William Byrd. He left England in secret to train to be a Catholic priest, returned on the English mission and was arrested while celebrating the outlawed Mass in the home of St. Swithun Wells. He defended every particle of the Eucharist from priest hunter Richard Topcliffe, promising to surrender his life if Mass was permitted to conclude.
Tortured at the Tower of London, Fr. Polydore was executed at Tyburn in 1591, permitted to hang until dead due to the intercession of Sir Walter Raleigh and is one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales. Get to know his life and witness and share his story with others through this creative presentation.
A careful combination of historical imagery, paintings, footage and costumed visuals make this an original and creative way to learn the biography of St. Polydore Plasden with visual aids to help the narrative flow.
What you will hear:
The life of St. Polydore Plasden in a narrative for the whole length of the film told from his own point of view. He will tell you his story. Original music to accompany the narrative.
What you will see:
Historical images, maps, footage of jousting and Elizabethan life; sacred art, devotional art; paintings of the Mass and Eucharist; simple costumed visuals of St. Polydore Plasden, Richard Topcliffe, fellow Martyrs, the Secret Mass and the Tyburn gallows to help aid the narrative.
Length:
The film runs for 30 minutes.
Target Audience:
The film is suitable for all ages, aimed mainly at Catholics with an understanding of the Faith and an appreciation for the spiritual life.

Last of Our Kind is the fourth studio album from English rock band The Darkness. Produced by the band's guitarist Dan Hawkins at his studio Leeders Farm in Norfolk, the album received an advance release on May 27, 2015 in Japan[2] and will be released in the United Kingdom on June 1, and in the United States on June 2. The album was released on the band's own record label, Canary Dwarf Records, via Kobalt Label Services.
It is the first and only album by the band to feature drummer Emily Dolan Davies, who replaced Ed Graham in 2014, before herself leaving the band before the album's release and susbsequently being replaced by Rufus Tiger Taylor. The album was funded via PledgeMusic, with the band offering signed copies of the album on both CD and vinyl, as well as signed guitars, hand written lyric sheets and setlists from the band's archive.
Last of Our Kind was entirely written in Ireland, then produced by guitarist Dan Hawkins at his own recording studio, Leeders Farm, in Norfolk.[4] Around fifteen songs were in contention for the final tracklisting; ten appear on the standard release; with the Japanese and Best Buy releases containing two exclusive bonus tracks; while another, "Million Dollar Strong", was played live during their warm-up tour of Ireland in March 2015.[5] A special edition of the album is expected to be released in September, containing five bonus tracks, as well as a DVD of a live performance from prior to the album's release.
Frontman Justin Hawkins has described the album as "brutal", adding that "It's definitely stripped back with the exception of some mandolins. But when you're doing medieval rock, you should have a mandolin on it ... It's medieval rock, but it still sounds like The Darkness. It's medi-urban, I suppose".[4] Speaking about the style of opening track "Barbarian", Hawkins has joked that the song contains "not one but two dramatic monologues, a guitar solo that has been declared 'irresponsible', a riff that weakens lady knees" and a chorus that makes grown men shit directly into their pants".[4][6] Explaining the meaning of the lyrics more deeply, the singer has noted that they "describe the Viking invasion of East Anglia which culminated in the decapitation of Edmund the Martyr", describing the thematic basis as "classic Darkness".

Civil Rights Pioneer Diane Nash: I Refused to March with George Bush During Selma Anniversary

http://democracynow.org - One notable civil rights activist who did not take part in this weekend's commemorative march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma was Diane Nash, who helped found the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). She spoke at an event honoring civil rights foot soldiers and explained her opposition was based on the participation of former President George W. Bush. "The Selma movement stands for nonviolence and peace and democracy and fairness and voting rights. And George Bush stands for just the opposite. He stands for violence and war and stolen elections, and, for goodness sake, his administration had people tortured." She argues it is a "huge mistake for Americans to leave the future of this country in the hands of elected officials. … Suppose we had waited for elected officials to desegregate lunch counters, buses, and to get the right to vote. I think 50 years later we would still be waiting."
